Well that's prolly why the game got stale.. It's a new game thats light on content, so playing it hardcore will defiantly have you running out of content within the first few months.. I myself switch between several games, this is something I do because if i don't ill be like you and spend all my time on a single game, blow through the content, then get bored of it lol.. I did it with AION and EvE..
But ofcourse there's no wrong way to play a game.. To each their own.. But just from looking over these forums I can tell that the people who usually bash Rift for it's content are those that max leveled a toon within a month (either through grinding or playing excessivley) and the people whom seem to enjoy it all stress how they've taken their time with the game and didn't rush through it's content.. Either way, for those that rushed through the content im sure if they give Rift a year or so they can come back and will have plenty to do; if Trion keeps on pumping out content as quick as they have been.
Yeah, if I was playing this game hardcore, I would have been burned out in a month.
But since it took two months at a pretty casual rate, that shows design flaw; experience crutches in the game that artifically boost players to max.
The 'slow' method or the 'not play method' works very well in a game like Rift. A player has to intentionally watch his levels or else he will quickly find themselves at the end of a very short game due to small zones and overabundance of mobs that you are forced to fight.
Rift is an okay game, but they really are going to have a problem later on I think. Most of the content is for raiders so there's a huge hole in the middle with nothing to do but quest hub and the same few warfronts.
I dont think he was stressing that you intentionally play the game slow.. I think what he met is if you spread out what you're doing and just don't focus on grinding quests or AOEing mobs and give you're self a little variety the game will be more enjoyable AND also last longer.. I can understand wanting to win a basketball game, but what dosn't make sense is playing a sport that you don't like (unless people actually enjoy AoEing mobs and grinding quests for hours upon hours each day.)
I wasn't directly talking regarding the other poster in as much as to address the 'slowdown' argument as a whole on Rift forums. Plenty of people on the Rift forums are saying 'play slower, you're rushing through the game', the same calls like in Warhammer. So that mostly addresses those that consider swimming from one side of a lake to the other 'fun' in Rift, for no other purpose than to say "I swam from one side of the lake to the other lol!" To me, that's not why I play mmos. But people do and they are quite happy in Rift doing that which is great for them.

I think we'll just have to disagree on that. I can post plenty of things from the Rift site that shows people saying exactly that.. "you're playing too fast, rushing through the game. Slow down and smell the flowers." Another thing we disagree on is that there is 'variety' but not really lasting variety. Outside of artifact hunting, there isn't much to do for most of the people saying they are leaving. Crafting is average and easy, Pvp is pretty average and unbalanced, rifts get boring after one month because you've closed every type of them and they mirror each other except graphically, dailies are hohum.

To say 'every game released before it was just like Rift, so Rift is excused' isn't a good defense. That's the 'they did it too, so why are you singling me out? defense people give cops when they get pulled over.
As a self professed 'next gen' game, people expected MORE from Rift than games that didn't claim that they were changing the genre. Those games didn't stack themselves up vs WoW and then say 'Well, right now we are new but we'll be just as good as them someday.' Rift claimed they took 600k subs from WoW so if that's true, saying 'give it a year' isn't really valid imo.I played FFXI for years and never once looked up and said "Sheeeeshh, when am I gonna hit max level already?"because I was having fun while playing and there was no 'endgame'. FFXI didnt release with a whole lot of content, but you didn't hit endgame in a month so no one noticed it. You didn't have anyone HALF to max in the first month, lol. They didn't fill people up with notions that they were doing something no one else was doing, but let the game speak for itself. Players were actually involved in the game more because the characters felt more alive as players had a real connection to them. Few people in Rift remark they have a bond with their character; it's one of the most common statements around. And that's because they level too fast, die without consequence and can be easily replaced just by rerolling another sub in one month's time. What FFXI did was give people the grind party experience which most Westerners didn't like, but they still were able to gather up plenty of them as well as their main audience asian gamers to make it a successful franchise with nearly 300k in subs each year.

I guess we'll have to agree on disagreeing because almost every point you brought up i disagree with lol.. All i gotta say is if all of Rifts population thought as you did then the game wouldn't be as succesful as it is.. But then again if everyone thought how i thought the game would rival WOW's 12million subs.. But that's alright, disagreement's is what fuels the MMO genre and gives us variety; it's part of the unfaultering march of progress..
All i know is Rift is sitting at 1+ million subs supposebly.. I don't know if i agree with that #, but on Braircliff it sure seems like it.. I'd defiantly say 500+ k subs atm, which would beat out EvE Online making Rift the 2nd most popular P2P MMO.. Then again i'm not sure if you were calling it's popularity into contest or not, just by you're post it almost makes it seem as if Rift is dieing.. I don't know if that's what you were trying to say or not lol..
Also when people are saying "Play the game slow" i STILL think they mean take you're time and do variety.. Why would anyone honestly suggest you to play the game "Slower" really? Has someone actually told you to walk instead of running through the game world? lol.. That dosn't make sense.. "You beat Rift too quickly because you used you're mount! You should walk instead of using you're mount you'll get more fun out of it!" lol.. I think what they mean is "Stop AoEing mobs and grinding quests 24/7! Go out and enjoy some Warfronts, invasions, instances, world pvp, ect while you level."

I don't agree with that number at all. I don't think they got anywhere near 1 million subs. If you read that, it's certainly not accurate.
I'd guess its more like 1 million registered accounts, which isn't hard to do.
The game is popular because there hasn't been anything released worth much in the last two years, that's why. Although it's not what I'm saying, I could make a great case that Jack in the Box is the best meal in the world.. if I offered it up to a bunch of Somalis that haven't even seen food for two years. But that doesn't make it true, it just means they were starving so they ate it.
Gamers right now are starving for a new type of game so they'll try everything out. When a company likes Trion slaps "next gen" on it's title, of course people will 'try' it out.
My question to you if you played Rift is.. do you think it's a next gen game, yes or no?
If you say YES, that would say quite a bit about your understanding of what 'next gen' means regarding mmos.
If you say NO, then you basically agree with everything I just said.
But no, Rift is FAR from dying no matter what you read, lol. It is turning into a raider's game so that should keep it going for awhile because the WoW raiders are bored right now.
One big thing I love about playing Rift is how quickly things can go from meh..ho-hum..just another day harvesting and questing to....all of a sudden all hell breaks loose, 30 Rifts open up along with numerous boss mobs and dozens of npc raid groups wandering around trying to take over towns and cities...and I group instantly with others on the server and save the day. End result is an hour or two of intense action and lots of phat loots. There are massive zone wide invasions in each zone every few hours. Sometimes it's a water rift. Sometimes it's death...each one has numerous variations of mobs and methods needed to close rifts and end the invasions. It's really a lot of fun for me . I love playing Rift and expect to be playing it for years to come.
It's only going to get better. Trion isn't playing around..they are serious about making the best mmo they can.
One of the biggest Pros of Rift is its open world play.
Opening Expert, craft & raid rifts along with joining in on some Major zone invasions are so much fun.
Sadly, The focus of Rift still hangs on Instanced pvp and raids/dungeons.
Move better rewards to the open world, make more World content and Rift would be an amazing experience instead of just a good mmo that reminds you of ten other games.

How's agreeing with you that it's not "next gen" make Rift any less of a good game? I don't agree with the 2 year thing, as DCUO had tons of hype behind it and is dieing badly.. Same with FFXIV, it was hyped up more then Rift i'd say (atleast it's MMORPG.com forums were) and because of it being such a shitty game it flopped.. Rift has retained a good player base for it's first 4months, by now AION was a ghost town (also another hyped up MMO that launched 2-3 years ago that flopped because it had major problems.) I'll agree with you that Rift is the probably the best MMO launch within the last few years, but i don't think it has been the "only" one..
Btw Rift has some very next gen mechanics.. The way that it's setup is so that certain information from the game is spread out on several servers.. No other MMORPG (that i know of ) does what Rift does in that aspect, which is why RIft can fit so many people on one screen and still manage to run well.. Maybe the gameplay mechanics arn't next gen but a lot of the phasing and other stuff is defiantly a step up from the norm in the genre.
And yeah, i agree Rift is far from dieing.. Sanctum has been busy this week.. I think i've seen it more populated this week then i have in a while, today especially.

Gonna have to disagree here as well, the first world event was a bombish big dud mostly because people kept crashing out and couldn't even log in. The same thing you're saying it should have stopped from happening (communicating/fitting so many people on the screen at once and not failing)... happened.
I wasn't impressed by all that 'tech' during that world event, but I'm sure 'ability to communicate with servers' was a selling point to most of the people who subbed RIFT at the time and who bought the boxes in the stores, so I'm sure they were blown away during that event.
The very few that were expecting something different from WoW or every other mmo were'nt/aren't, but then again they were/are in such a small minority so when their subs expire, it probably won't effect the game that much, true?
Anyway, I think this is a dead horse so we'll stop here. Cheers!

World event was because of lack of testing.. Since then they have stamped out several bugs with the system.. I've been in some massive invasions (100+ people on screen at one time) and it's played rather nicley.. But with the event it was around 1k+ people on the screen at one time.. I don't think we'll see another event that calls for having everyone on the server at one place at one time; that was a stupid idea on Trions part lol.. But it was there 1st event and honestly it wasn't all that bad, i had a blast killing the collosus before alsbeth appeared in Stillmoor.. I also got some nice loot and a 2handed weapon im still using to this day.
With that said.. I apreciate you taking the time to debate with me man.. Most "debates" on MMORPG.com boil down to simple personal jabs at one another.. You've kept it on topic and stated you're opinions maturley, i like that.. A lot of respect for you poppin, even if we don't see eye to eye on Rift.

I have not been able to play rift on a consistant basis since I am in school for the summer. For right now though, I love the class customiztion coupled with the belief that there is no wrong way to play your class. The hostility is not there ( at least I can see yet) that the wow community had. Gear is easy to get and the game overall is pretty enjoyable for the casual player. The pvp is challanging just as it was in wow and new content is beeing added.

Cheers!

Reason to play? A content update almost every month.
Sick and tired of WoW where you get some mediocre update every half a year!

The pvp is challanging just as it was in wow and new content is beeing added.
just my 2 cents
