With SWG being shot in the face, why isn't Everquest gone?

EQ1 was and still is far more hardcore and challenging than WoW ever was...lot of players of EQ1 has played for ten years or so in row so it got pretty hardcore following.

Not to forget EQ1 servers prolly take far less hardware and effort to keep up.

For people who are established in EQ its a fun game. For those who have to start out 12 years behind the curve SOE has done very little to help those people catch up. Heck, most people in EQ are "boxers", because the population is so low its the only way to accomplish something. When players get to a point to where they feel they have to sub another account or two is when most rational people are going to realize a game is not worth that sort of effort.

Already been said, it's Lucas pulling SOE's contract to run it, it was already exstended a few times by Lucas from its original 5 year contract with SOE. Lucas don't want it running along side TOR.

Probably been stated already but here goes:

There isn't room for 2 SW MMOs in a galaxy, far, far away I guess.

This is almost entirely nonsense question and post.

But the answer imo is really simple.  Because Everquest is not SWG, it is a completely seperate game.

Also as some have said EQ1 and WoW are not even remotely close to the same playstyle.  Sure they are both fantasy games but WoW is like ultra easy mode and EQ1 is like ultra hard mode :P

    eq is soe's flag ship.

    you work it out.

Because SOE doesn't have to answer to Big George where EQ is concerned.

I mean, do people actually still play it? Just seems a little odd if people do.

Because it is their own ip, theoretically they could keep it going indefinately with no development at all, and keep it going as long as they are breaking even.  With SWG they had to pay LA for the rights to run the game, and LA could change that price anytime the existing contract was up.  From what I understand they generally went in 1 or 2 year contracts, so SOE had to pay them the agreed upon amount, and from what I understand at some point a couple years ago LA lowered the fee they were charging, with another Star Wars MMO coming out there was little reason to keep the licensing agreement with SOE.

no IP fees with EQ....keeps the cost down tremendously

(Yellow) yes they are, it's the execution that's different. Both were/are raid focused games (LOL at WOW being "quest based").

(orange) another LOL at one being easy or hard, first EQ and other older games were not harder, they just focused on something different to keep you playing longer, which was backwards progression. Where's as WOW and modern games offer continuous upward progression.
