If I was developing another MMO not named Star Wars: The Old Republic, I'd just be waving my white flag white now or hope I released before GW2 does. This game looks amazing.

Firefall: i dont like the graphic and gameplay look like borderlands... i checked all media about this game and i have zero interest in it. Hype: 2
Blade & Soul: i like the korean/anime style and the "legs and tits" part XD i like the gameplay and the fast travel mode where you run and jump like hell. Ill probably try it but i fear a grindfest .. Hype: 7
Tera: at first i was really exited about this game. The dynamic combat look nice. but im not interested in another game with strong "holy trinity". ill probably try it. Hype: 6
Swtor: i was really hyped with this game at first. but the more i see about this game, the less interested i am. i know it wasnt going to be an ultra innovative mmo to begin with.. but it look too much like wow. i dont care about the fully voiceover. i hate the graphic. Origin exclusive?? what the... Hype: 5

Guild wars 2: I cannot describe this game... its like 0 divided by 0 and then black hole f*** everything. Hype: 10 + 0/0
I'm just happy that people have finally learned to keep their expectations balanced before a game releases instead of building up a unicorn and lollipops fantasy world in their heads based only on developer info.
People will always want choices, even if some of the choices arent that great. For every person that is sold on tor or gw2, there are 10 more that want something different than either of those.
Its healthy, its competitive, its human nature.
I have read most of your forum posts and I admire your optimism. I really do. But you're setting yourself up for disappointment, mate.
disappointment? its the first game ever that hype me so much. this game will win for sure. other game like SWTOR and Archage may be very successful too but im SURE Guild wars 2 wont be disappointing.
I really want to know what will disappoint me. please tell me if you can. but i doub you can.
I hope GW2 meets your expectations. Many of us salty old trolls are here because we've been in your shoes, and let down, over and over.
it still just a game. Im sure i will like it and thats all. Some will like it and some won't.
Problem with setting such high expectations, and high excitment for something, is that it gets to a point where nothing can possibly live up to it. You are instantly setting yourself up to disliking the game, as you will begin to critique it to much. You will end up in a situation where you twisted the developers words to such a high degree that the game you expected, is no longer the game being produced.
If you stay level headed, or even become pessimistic, you are setting yourself up for liking the game. If you set low expectations, and stay focused on other things, controlling your excitment, then the game will suddenly exceed your expectations. When you first experience it.
And then of course, if you leave all your past MMO experiences behind, you may like GW2 even more. If you are going to come into Guild Wars 2, or any game, with the mindset of WoW being the game to beat, you will instantly dislike it. You will begin to compare things against WoW or the game you are a fan of, and end up quitting without really giving the game much of a shot. If you take the game for what it is, a game in itself, not WoW 2.0, or Rift 2.0, or {enter favorite game here} {version number here}, you will be more apt to enjoy your experience in the game.
When it actually is a version 2.0, there's no point in trying to convince yourself otherwise.
well, there's a first time for everything. some of us are hoping this would be the one that can actually live up to the hype of most of its fans. Anet's been good at keeping the game's fans' expectations on realistic levels so far by actually showing evidence of what they've been saying. if they can keep this up til release, there's no reason it won't live up to the hype, at least for the people with realistic expectations.
Egocentrism isn't the only proper way to behave even in front of yourself really, try to think about it. Repeat after me, not everything depend on what YOU are doing, this is a fact. The way you position yourself can only have some influence, but it will certainly not influence it all. If the game is good, it will be good expectation or not, if it is bad it will be bad, whatever position you will have. Sure it can help to a point, but that point is pretty low in the entire figure, i can assure you. I'm really enought of those people saying over and over the player are at fault, pvp went wrong in mmorpg, player are wrong, rp is being dumped down player ar at fault, mmorpg are crappy players are at fault...
Ok stop it a second please, this is too much really. If pvp and rp and quality is sucking, players aren't that much at fault really.
I don't have too high expectations. i know what await me with guild wars 2 and i know i will like it. i still have my eyes on other games too, but guild wars 2 is in my top upcoming game. can't i just like a game without having someone sayin i will be deceived?
you hate it? fine but just keep on living and let the other be deceived or happy.
(i didn't write this to someone in particular, i am just saying my thought)
Hyping and not living to your expectation is caused by misinformation
What Ive seen on this forum and what I still laugh at are people that heard something in a brief intervirew/trailer and get hyped and creating increatable content in their heads, without actually reading on something about the truth
Thats why people got overexcited about rift, about warhammer about conan and about pretty much every MMO released so far
I always read as much as I can about games I want to play and I can say Im pretty objective about what is possible and what not - afterall Im a programmer as well
Now when I say I am hyped for GW2, I mean Im looking forward to play dynamic contents because I know to the tinniest bit how they work
Im looking forward to play bar brawls which I supposed would be similar to skill changin in underwater combat
Im looking forward to my Story because I know the way it looks and plays
Im looking forward to play minigames (even tho Im NOT expecting much yet, since I havent seen any gameplay of it)
Im looking forward to just explore the world, because it looks absolutely gorgeus
Im looking forward to the sheer amount of combat possibillities (traits, weapon switching)
and etc etc..
And I know this game will be succesfull because lots of these features werent in any previous MMO released (plus its B2P - succes guaranteed)
howgh
I think I actually spent way more time reading and theorycrafting about MMOs than playing them
Ima let you finish, Lydeck. But I hear you like fast travel so we put some teleports in ur teleports so you can travel extra fast.

Well if you spent less time reading up on his post history of 27, you can squeeze in time to go look at a guild wars 2 video and have fun, why bother with a hype rating of undefined, it actually made the game sound bad :P
How much WoW could a WoWhater hate, if a WoWhater could hate WoW?
As much WoW as a WoWhater would, if a WoWhater could hate WoW.
My god spending time actually doing content rather than spending time travelling in order to do said content. What a terrible idea. Whoever thought of it should be shot!
Agreed. But let's take it one step further: not having to travel with our characters at all anymore; have all the content come our way like in a space invaders game. Also the landscape can just scroll alongside of our stationary positions so we'll still be fully immersed.

^ This x9000.
U just described ToR's space combat haha

Yeah they are revolutionary. Sadly just in a minigame form though. Wish all 17 vast and open planets would scroll my way for extra convenience.

Very hyped too. My only concern is there may be too much CC in PvP. Makes it annoying. Not enough info yet, just going off what I've seen in class reveals.
I'll take your advice and watch some of the videos. Please help me find a good Guild Wars 2 podcast with actual PvP combat. Thanks in advance.
^
There's no PvP footage yet
Arena Net PR knows how to avoid the creation of unrealistic expectation (well, atleast they try) when they keep correcting people, or their own fanbase corrects people...
I believe in what they shown and not what they promise, this way my hype is completely justified
And to darthpony, well, atleast we won't have to repeat a rail shooter everytime we want to change of place ^^
Kidding, I love ya

Well the same can be told to any game in development since ages ago
So what you are saying is a bit irrelevant
