StarWars died with the "prequels" for most of us anyway. I can't wait until Darth George's greed forces to shut down SWTOR also.
Then Bioware will be able to finally give us Mass Effect Online.
Honestly the best thing for the franchise would be for George to step back and not be involved in the creative process anymore. He was at his best when he had Gary Kurtz, Alan Ladd Jr. Irwin Kirshner and Lawrence Kasdan working with him balancing his madness.
The current regime he has surrounded himself with is essentially a generation of rabid fanboy yes men and it shows in the prequels and cartoons he's made since.
If there was ever an IP that deperately needed a reboot it's Star Wars.
What you say here is so true. Gary Kurtz basically told me the same thing when I spoke to him last year at Celebration 5. Lucas has surrounded himself with nothing but fanboyz and yes men who don't have the balls to tell him when his idea suck.
As for Lucas Arts, all of its best people and collaborators left years ago Tim Schafer (Grim Fandango, Monkey Island, Day of the Tenticle Maniac Mansion), Vincent Lee ( Rebel Assault 1 & 2), Justin Chen (Dark Forces and Jedi Knight), all the people from Factor 5 (Rogue Squadron, Battle for Naboo, Rebel Assault) and Raven (Jedi Knight II and Jedi Academy) and most of all Lawrence Holland (X-wing, Tie Fighter, X-Wing Alliacne). The great gaming legacy of this company has been run into the ground by greedy suits (Haden Blackman and Julio Torres) who are all about pimping out the IP to maximise profits. Lucas Arts used to make games of exceptional quality, now they are just a joke.
Don't even get me started on the state of Expanded Universe in the current books, Del Rey has ruined it.
Here's a thought -- why not just give BioWare the benefit of the doubt and play the game for its own sake? Like it or hate it for its own merits.
I know, I know. That's wishful thinking, given how much bitching and whining folks have been doing in the 5+ years since the CU and NGE. But it would be nice.
Besides, SWG is a shell of what it was, like they stated in the interview as well. It's never recovered from NGE. I for one, doubt it could have. They turned a game completely inside out without regards to their community. Big no no.
SWG is actually much better than it was at NGE launch. Some would argue that it is the best it has ever been due to the dungeon and PvP content that SWG never had until now. People forget how grindy pre-NGE was.
Sure, if you count in the chirping crickets and floating tumbleweed, only 3 servers out of the bunch has actual activity, and even then it is hard to find players. Yes current SWG is greatly improved over the initial NGE, but not better than what it was before that.
It was a bit less grindy back then, from level 1-90 now it takes a month, back then to complete 2.5 masters in the old skilltree system it took a matter of a week.
