The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
Play which games? FFXI I'm sure still has players on the Xbox360, probably not PS2 as the system is a gen old. Point is they had people on those systems that were just fine with paying a subscription. Also let's not forget Phantasy Star and EQ Adventures which aslo had subs and did fine on the PS2. DCUO as I said while doing poorly on the pc is doing just fine on the PS3 as evidenced by the fact that the servers are always quite populated unlike thier PC counterparts.
Phantasy Star and EQ Adventures, dead games.......... just to show how unfeasable the monthly subscription is
DCU is still fairly new and has been made specifically for Console, also I would like to know how many servers does it have 2?.......4? Not a lot for a good financial return, it is just a niche
Console gamers are very different from PC gamers
Of course the majority of gamers own both a Console and a PC but their habits are fairly different
I play mainly MMORPGs on PCs and play Console games for the FPS and Racing Games, but I won't pay a subscription to play an FPS or a Racing game
I believe that's the way gamers use the PC and the Console, they compensate each other, they are not in competition
The PC is a better environment for subscription based games, Consoles are the classic "Arcade" machines were people want fun on tap without the fuss of having to pay a monthly subscription for a single game
Actually, Phantasy Star Universe on the Xbox 360 has outlived both the PS2 and PC versions. There are large numbers of Xbox 360 and PS2 FFXI players. And DCUO set SOE sales records because it came to the PS3 as well as PC. The game failed long-term because of SOE and their infamous 'patches' and 'fixes'...not unwilling players.
Exactly Maverick and Sloth just as I said. Now PC is the more well established format for sub based games but the above stated games clearly show that console gamers are more than willing to pay a sub for what they consider a worthwhile game.
My complaint is that i don't want to be locked into one dumb box platform. In fact, i don't want anything to do with dumb boxes. I'll always stick to the PC for gaming.

The PC is a box for gaming as well. The other gaming platforms are also gaming computers, but instead of a keyboard they use controllers. Other than that, they are practically the same thing with different fuctionality.
People keep saying CCP want a new audience. I don't know, but I don't think EVE is an FPS game, and that in and of itself is going to bring in a new audience even if it's PC only. Why should people complain? Anything you can do on a PS3, can be done on the PC, but better. ANYTHING.

Consoles exist for one reason: convenience.
Actually having a top of the range PC I can tell you when I look at PS3 graphics and loading times I sometimes chuckle.
Of course I built and upgrade my own PC.
I'd totally get dumb box it couldn't afford to tough.
I'll complain because I refuse to pay sony another dime ever. If they became the only game company left I'd stop playing video games THAT DAY. They butcher their games, disregard their fans, produce faulty and overpriced equipment ( across all divisions...not just consoles, which are also junk), and overall just tend to shit all over everybody...even their own workers.
So...I'll never play this game. I, otherwise, might have played this game. It was a critically unwise choice to go this route...they would have made more money and exposed themselves to more players to do this as a PC exclusive (and, mind you, I've strayed from PC gaming because its a Magic the Gathering style money flush) as at least the market would be larger. Its a niche game, in a massively flooded FPS market, on a system with the least players.
Bottom line is, it's easier to appeal to a huge market that has one hardware standard as opposed to a huge market that has a million different hardware standards.
CCP said a long time ago that they wanted to cater to a completely different audence from the eve players so that they dont end up competing against each other.
Xbox 360 mmorpgs require the servers to be under microsofts FULL CONTROL. Therefore you can not have DUST interacting with eve unless they fork over the eve server to microsoft.
If they released this game for consoles AND pcs that means that you have to seperate the console and pc players at all times. This is because the PC players will 100% without a doubt own the console playeres. This would lead to having to make an even more complicated server structure to handle the segregation of PC and PS3 players. Granted it wont be THAT complex but it will still end up causing problems on a gameplay perspective.
So I really dont understand all the people going "It shouldve been on the xbox as well" or "we need it for the pc" or "Its seperating the playerbase" Face it people we knew from the beginning that CCP was targetting the people who dont play EVE o.o
I'm not very vocal on the matter, but I imagine my reasons for being disappointed might line up with some of those who are...Really, I don't have, and have no desire to own, a PS3. This is not because I have a belief Console A is better then Console B or anything like that. I just happened to get an Xbox at, what I considered, a reasonable price. I only play it occasionally and even then, I don't even go online with it. So buying another console just doesn't make sense. Beyond that, rationally or not, I was under the impression the game was coming to Xbox so I was a bit excited about that prior to the PS3 announcement.
As a disclaimer, I do play EvE. I understand the line "DUST is targeted for those who don't play EVE", but at the same time, I don't think CCP would really mind getting more money from EvE players. All in all, sucks for me, but hope the PS3 people love the game. Despite not planning to play it myself, I'd hate to see the game fail.

because we want to play but dont have a PS3 is my guess.
exactly.. personally i wouldnt have a ps3 if i was paid to own one.. so making DUST 514 a ps3 only game.. just means it is a game i will never play.. has to be one of the dumbest moves i've ever heard about from CCP to be honest, they would have been far better off making the game on the PC.. as it is. the game is likely going to fail regardless of how good or bad it is.. just because its on the ps3 only. i hope CCP can afford to take the loss.
The PS3 is already 5 years old as a hardware platform. It's antiquated and dated by current PC standards, in that same 5 years PC's have grown exponentially faster.
MMO developers take advantage of this dynamic and improved the quality of graphics every so often during major updates. You name the MMO, if it's been around long enough it's received a face-lift or three.
Where's the opportunity to do this with the aging PS3 platform? Or any platform for that matter? Platform games are something you pick up and play for a few days or weeks usually, rarely have I ever played a console game longer than 2-3 months.
EVE is 7 years old now thanks in part to being on a PC platform where both developers and players have the opportunity to upgrade their hardware.
Bottome line: a console exclusive release is short-sighted planning if it's intended to be around for a long period of time like EVE.
There's also a number of people like myself that refuse to play FPS games with 2 little thumbsticks. Give me a keyboard and mouse or don't bother.

if they truly want DUST 514 to succeed and be a viable part of the Eve experience.. then their going to have to accept...that none of the various consoles have what it takes to do this.. as the development process goes on.. i can't help but think, that eventually they will have to accept that its never going to work.
Battlefield 3 Sales: Xbox 360: 2.2 million PlayStation 3: 1.5 million PC: 500,000
there is a whole lot more shooter players on consoles.... THIS IS THE REASON IT IS ON console.... and this not necessarily for eve players but it is for new new edden players... CCP target market for Dust 514 is console players not EVE players.. ccp wants more players not same players leaving off to another game or splitting their time between those two...

This is a flaw with PC games as well. How long has the average player played DA2? Non-Sandbox Non-MMORPG Games in general have lost replay value because they are repetative and everyone has played them before. Sandbox MMORPGs have not been tried on a concole yet. This is the first, Code 4 on the 360 will be the second.
Keyboard and mouse is over rated crap, give me my gamepad in an action game. Hell for Witcher 2 and Skyrim, I use my gamepad.
Being Console exclusive is not as short-sighted as you think, most new generation consoles are backwards compatible with previous generation games. If it is a good MMORPG, then it will stay relevent for the next generation as well.

Is this a serious question? Because the answer is quite obvious to me. I dont give a rats ass about which audience CCP is targetting. Eve is being played on PC and if I would still play Eve I would want to play the FPS game which is connected to Eve and I for sure hell wont buy a PS3 just to play one stinking game.
People on forums aren't playing a game and enjoying them self at that moment. They will complain for no clear reason.
Just try it when it comes out and if it's not for you then it smply not your game. I will play dust when it comes out but doubt I play it for long. Like eve just to much. I am simply on forums so I get 5/100 user activity so I can hype this game.

There is no Subcription for DUST 514. You pay $20 to buy the game and that money will be converted in ISK for you to spend in game, and the game is F2P. PSN is Free, so it will gather more people, it just depends in the people if they like the game.
The problem I can see with this, is with the PS3 crowd.
1. Because this type of games requires Team Gameplay, Communication and skills not only as an FPS, but as a MMO, it requires Logistics, and RTS Elements and tactics for the leader of the squad to command the big Ship of DUST 514 in the battlefield.
MAG which I was playing yesterday, is the type of game that really needs a lot of people to make matches of 256 Players, which has been declining a bit, so there is 64 players mode also, this type of games are designed for people that wants to be a in a Clan and play as a team. That is why it don't have that many amount of players as a Call of Duty. Many MAG Clans are looking foward to play DUST 514.

CCP and Sony needs to Advertise this game very well for PS3 and EVE Online. They started with the private beta for EVE Players only. It could change the Competitive Online gaming on PS3 forever and for EVE Universe itself.
Originally posted by SlothnChunk Dust 514 was promoted as cross-console by CCP for two years. And FFXI is already cross-platform (Xbox 360, PS2, PC and early PS3's).
FFXI is so slow and with no pvp it dont matter console and pc together.

I think FFXI had something like 100-200k Playstation gamers and those were sub-based and that was already years ago.
Seems to me that console gamers don't have that much an issue with paying for a subscription when it's for something that they want.
As for why not X360, I read somewhere that it was an issue with Microsoft and their terms and conditions.

You must also factor in that PS3 online is free, and if this game has a sub that would turn a lot of people off.
"Well I bought the PS3 so I wouldn't have to pay to play online, why would I buy this game?"
So that leaves the main source of income for this game as EVE players who either
a- own a PS3 already
b- are willing to buy one just to play this game
Not sure how that could draw huge amounts of people...
