Why is there hatred for a game that's not even out yet?

RudyRaccoonRudyRaccoon Member UncommonPosts: 475

Really, what is all the fuss about? Most Bioware games I've heard have gained a lot of praise like the Mass Effect series but then again there are few people who fear it could get trammbled on by anti-social people who've got burn't out on WoW. Have I just missed something that sparked a riot?

There will always be haters around any game. No matter how awesome it looks. Just ignore the ones without a valid argument and respect those with their own (valid) opinion.

Human nature. Got to vent out on something. Most trouble is caused by insecure fans of other MMOS though.

  • whilanwhilan Member UncommonPosts: 3,472

Some people don't like that it has classes,

Some want the game to be SWG 2.0

Some don't like it's not action based combat

Some worry if the game is successful that it will set a trend they don't care for

    Some Don't like EA

    Some are wary after DA2

Then you always have some of the sand box fans that don't want this to be a themepark/hate that it is.

Some just don't care for the star wars series or think LA will screw it up.

I'm sure there are others but these are the major things i've seen thrown at it.

You got your crazy aspects like it's a single player game or that it's lobby based but i think these are the symptons of the previous and not the actual cause.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

Rather an unfounded claim, beside the fact most people on this site are currently a fan of an other MMO right now because TOR is not released yet. In fact the question " Why is there love for a game that's not even out yet?" would be an equaly fair question. If someone can like something, then someone can dislike it. That is just a simple fact.

In both cases do only listen to those who actually can back up there claims with some proper motivation.

Honestly the game is just old before its release. Even if you don't hate it, i don't really see how you can like it much. Sure you will have a story oriented experience, most people think its not a big deal honestly. We will see ingame how it really turns out, but really its at the border between interest and uninterest; to me at least. I put it in the same bag as Rift, might be slightly better quality and a bit richer content wise, but thats really it.

I am not fan of SWTOR or any other MMO. My reply is based on my observation of SWTOR forums. Is it a coincidence that most of the vitrol and hate on SWTOR forums come from TERA and GW2 fans? maybe. But it is one hell of a coincidence which likes to repeat itself regularly.

As far as your question regarding 'love for the game which is not even out'. I saw no such thing and love pales in comparison to the hate.

  • VolgoreVolgore Member EpicPosts: 3,872

Because this game is not StarWars:TOR, but CloneWars:TOR which is a whole different thing.

Being a fan of the original Star Wars theme, i can in no way relate to the clone wars-kids cartoon shit, plus i'm burned out on everything even remotely themepark. Lucas has lost his passion for SW long ago and CW is obviously is an excuse to make money from today's kids.

    Read above

Some don't like it's not action based combat

More action then WoW less then GW2.

Some worry if the game is successful that it will set a trend they don't care for

Don't worry sandbox players your crappy MMOs will still be made. Plus there is Archage.

    Some Don't like EA

EA is just like every other company, their goal it to make money.

    Some are wary after DA2

Most people blame this on EA, thankfully for them SWTOR started prior to the EA buy-out or shortly after it.

Then you always have some of the sand box fans that don't want this to be a themepark/hate that it is.

    Same as SWG.

Some just don't care for the star wars series or think LA will screw it up.

    Personal opinion.

Expectations are unrealistic not just for swtor but also for Guild wars 2, neither is going to be revolutionary but everyone is expecting that.

  • PigozzPigozz Member UncommonPosts: 886

I think its because people expected more from one of the most expensive games ever made...simple as that

it doesnt make TOR any bad, but there's this feeling of wasted potential

I think I actually spent way more time reading and theorycrafting about MMOs than playing them

  • KyleranKyleran Member LegendaryPosts: 44,059

Pretty simple, for one reason or another SWTOR is not going to be the MMO they want it to be, so they will slam it.

Alot of the people on this site for instance seem to think Guild wars 2 is going be  revolutionary in terms of combat, but the truth is Guild wars 2 combat is a joke.  It  going to play just like DCUO.

    -Auto Targeting

-You dont actually aim though many seem to be under the impression that you do.

-There are a few "Action" abilities like stepback for Ranger(DA2) while the rest of the abilities work just like the ones in WoW.

-Only major cities are persistent, the rest of the game is random area  with random mobs, arcade style

    - Guardian and Warrior- Tanks

    -Necro ,Element,Ranger,Engin, Thief- Dps/CC

Nothing new at all in guilds wars 2 yet folks on this site act like its some great game, when its just a crap acrade style waste of time. Thanks god for SWTOR which will finally be a fully Voiced over mmo which ive wanted since playing Age of Conan.

  • DerrosDerros Member UncommonPosts: 1,216

Its a combination of nostalgia for the movies and being unable to accept this is a different era in the SW universe and there are more than 2 jedi and 2 sith in the whole setting.

Hate for EA for um, stuff

Lament this isnt pre-NGE SWG 2.0 or other such sandbox (mostly this site)

The fact it isnt GW2/Archage, the saviors of the MMO genre like Darkfall and Mortal are.  (I think GW 2 will do very good but come on people didnt we go through this already?  Twice?)

    Focus on story

No Space Sim mechanics/token appeasement of on rails section.  (somewhat understandable but what're ya gonna do?)

ZOMG WoW CLONE!! (/accusitory finger point!!!!)

I will magically make it even more correct!  Watch this.

'Pretty simple, for one reason or another they don't think SW:ToR is going to be the MMO they think they want, so they will slam it.'

Helpfully making leeway for the fact that some people dislike it for reasons that aren't true, and some people seem to know what they want, but somehow play WoW (Or some other game they complain about) lots anyway, so apparently don't actually know.  Or they're really suggestible.

Cut seens and story telling may = too much solo play.

I only play group content in all my mmos, and I'm great a finding groups. Take it from me, that sometimes it's hard to keep groups togeather. If they play around with story telling you will loose a few.

Its apples(GW2), oranges(TOR) and pears(TSW) to me, i prefer apples with caramel but that doesnt mean i wont crave an orange or a pear down the road, blind hatred of any game released or not is just silly and i hope GW2, TOR and TSW can each deliver to gamers the robust and fun experiences we all desire and deserve..

You cant convince me that i like oranges or pears more than apples because i know at least for now i like apples better..

    Playing GW2..

  • erictlewiserictlewis Member UncommonPosts: 3,022

To me it is quite simple. There are a lot of hates that live on these forums.  They hate everything, and they are not happy unless they can make other folks unhappy.   Then their are the following groups

    (1) The lucasarts/bio ware haters,  there going to dish them for anything.

    (2) The guild wars 2 component.

    (3) The folks in insert-game-name-here that don't want it to go gold, afraid that their are friends who would leave that game to go play and leave them alone.

All in all folks are afraid of change, and just plain hate things, and there are a lot of drama queens out there that live to stir stuff up.

All the content in the game can be done in group, the multiplayer conversation system makes it more fun and theres rewards for grouping. Of course there are always people who just want to solo, like in any other recent MMO.

I think it's because people see ToR has nothing for the endgame or sandbox player.

If you want to chase the carrot on the stick ... and just get gear then I guess ToR is your cup tea. :(

Sorry but WoW has beat this horse to death and I refuse to play another mmo that thinks that is all it needs for endgame content.

This is the main reason I stopped playing Rift also, not to mention I did every quest in Rift, got most of my factions to good standing, was in full tier 1 gear with 4 pieces of tier 4 and raided 4 times.... and did all this before my 30days was up and even with all the patches Rift is still just a chase the carrot mmo with nothing to do endgame beyond that. :(

Hopefully GW2 and ArcheAge bring something to the mmo genre and shows how a real online world should be.

Everything I've seen from ToR to date gives the feel of an online game and not an actual online world and this really bothers me.

    Played: MCO - EQ/EQ2 - WoW - VG - WAR - AoC - LoTRO - DDO - GW/GW2 - Eve - Rift - FE - TSW - TSO - WS - ESO - AA - BD
    Playing: Sims 3 & 4, Diablo3 and PoE
