Just to be clear for those that are obviously not following the game that much:
There is no "crafter main" type character in SWTOR. You cannot make your way through the game as an armorsmith.
That's the sad part of LA NGE 2.0, they left the non combatant type of players at the door of the party.
Now about smuggling I guess there will be smuggling based story bits for the smuggler but I don't expect deep smuggling mechanisims. Hopefully I'm wrong.
One thing to be noted is, long time ago, in a MMO far far away from TOR a dev mentioned in a retrospective on SWG that making each crafted item unique was a mistake as it created nightmares for the DBA and hindered a lot the perfs of the game.

It's crafting.
Crafting like in KOTOR wouldn't be feasible in an MMO, it wasn't complex at all.
