People have said the gear/weapons in RIFT are below average (really poor/bland) while others have said they look really great and better than WoW. This is a level 50 epic shield.

People really like the looks of this as T2/T3 gear?

This was from someone on the RIFT forums that wonders if the Trion devs went on vacation.

All the warrior gear I came across from 1-50 was pretty bland.  The entire art-style, as far as the characters go, is prety bland to me.  I didn't like it even while in beta.  Maybe they are leaving room (lots) to impress with future gear updates?  Seems like a pretty good shield though, looking at the stats.

I only played in the beta, but from my experience back then the gear was indeed rather bland. At least for my warrior lvl1-42...

That shield looks like a cookie :p

Yeah Rift is pretty bland in terms of armors and equipment. Way too much rehash of same skins from lvl 1 to lvl cap. By the way that epic shield skin is same as lvl 10 shield you can get once out of tutorial.

The whole game was a cost cutting exercise, limited armour variety, limited weapon variety, small world, limited amount of quests, limited quest variety, small cities, 2 starter zones, shared zones, reused dungeons that are renamed epic, rifts and invasion being basically the same from 1 to 50, small PvP maps, nothing at endgame than to grind the same dungeons ad infinitum, someone hit the nail on the head early on in this very forum, his name started witha V... the game felt like it had been made by accountants.

I like the less over the top and more realistically proportioned art style. Although to say that there aren't A LOT of really flashy looking items in teh game at every level is not at all true. I could post hundreds of examples, but I am WAY too lazy to care that much aobut convincing people. If you really care to find out for yourselves, go do some research.

I doubt you could even post 20 forget about 100 of examples. I saw total of 5 skins for chest armor from lvl 1 to 50 on my ranged and T1/T2 armor looks exactly the same.

In general, the armor variety in Rift sucks.  Easiest way  to see this is to go to the auction vendor and start trying on different armors.  You'll find that purples look exactly like greens.  IMO, it really is a lazy way of doing things.  There's nothing worse than getting a new piece of look, trying it on and finding that it looks no different than what you were wearing 20 levels ago.  Blah!

It looks bland and uninspiring IMO.   I have seen better in other games, even f2p games.

The money men at Trion were standing over the artists shoulder with a clip board saying "do you need to spend 3 hours designing that Epic shield of fornication, can you not just reuse the low level stuff" and thats what they did.

That's really easy to say when I already stated that I wasn't going to be bothered with it... Like I said, if anyone is actually curious about the truth, they can do the research themselves. People can lie and troll until you're blue in the face, but just a few minutes of looking by anyone putting forth a little effort will prove that to not be the case...

Unless something changed after the first month, no, there are not 100s of types of item design.

Trion released pics of the new shields available from the raids in Hammerknell 1.3.

    Saweeeet! (no really, they're sweet)

But seriously, no one has lied. Those are actual pics of a guy with a purple cookie shield and a plain old hollowed-out rat's head on his noggin.

    As a level 50.

The worst part of Rift is the armor models. This should be well known by now.

Actually i did research while leveling and came up with total of 5 skins for armor till lvl 50 and even you know that T1 and T2 armor looks exactly the same and  a lot of epic stuff that drops in dungeons look like rehashed skins from lvl 10 to 20 armor. This all after a little effort, imagine if i want to put more serious effort into it.

Yes I always felt my cleric looked very bland, and still I thought it looked better then all the other classes. They should really put a little more effort into armor/weapons. At first I thought it was only the starter zone epics that would have this really generic everyday look and surely it would get better. But it didnt really.

This together with the world feeling perhaps a little cramped and the pvp being an absolute snore were my disappointments BUT overall the experience was a good one and I'd recommend Rift (offtopic sry)

The best looking gear is the r6 pvp by far, the rogue/mage gear looks amazing, though the crafted epics for dps/healing clerics is also really good.

Rift Armour is actually boring and lacking any imagination at all. It really is rehashed over and over again as you level up,it really leaves a lot to be desire IMO.

The weapons are just as crap and boring as the armour..

Compared to this, Rift armour is utter crap..

Ugly shield is fugly. But that guy needs to re-post that shot in the highest graphical settings...Using low settings to make something look worse is fail.
