Story driven game unique to your class = singleplayer
The next thing that stood out was the word grindy = keep them paying longer
That fact that he mentioned the cut scenes would get old fast. = more fail
Its all starting to look like kotor 3 online with a monthly fee. And yes, thats a major fail in my opinion. and you probably won't see me at launch cause im not paying every month for a single player co op game.
Again, here is a novel idea; why don't we wait for the game to come out AND THEN decide if it's a failure or.... You know what, forget it. No sense in bashing the old head against the wall.
Please continue with you doom and gloom posts.... DOOM, DOOM, DOOM I TELL YOU!!!!

Its not thats its going to be doom. The game itself sounds like a single player online game with a monthly fee.
They slap an mmo tag on it, and charge people 15/month.. I really don't need to wait till release I've been following this game since 2008. The words and terms story driven experience, and companions wrecked the mmo part of this game on the spot.
Ya you might be willing to pay for a single player co op experience and all the power to you.. But Im willing to bet my bottom dollar, and as I've already said numerous times, this game will sell a huge amount of boxes but have crappy retainment and you will see a lot of hostility towards this game from traditional mmo gamers who had to buy the game to try it because of no open beta, and you will have a ton of kotor fans whining about a 15/month expense... So whether you think thats doom or not I know its going to happen. If you can't see it you will during the first 3-4 weeks after it launches. This isn't predictions or propecies, its fact.
Do you know how many people are banned on the swtor forum for saying the game sounds like utter crap with certain mechanics they've choosen to use? Probably more than post there, and the ones left over there posting positive things just want a glimpse at beta and they think by playing the yes ma'am role on that forum they have more of a chance. I frequently laugh at all the polls over there.. "What do you think is better gw3 or swtor"... Uh duh... you're on a swtor official forum what are you expecting from that poll.. That is the level of stupidity surrounding this game and the community that follows it.. And anyone who speaks out against tor on that forum gets banned. I've been banned probably 20 times..
What they do is attack your post personlly and when you begin to defend your opinion if you slip up and call someone a moron or idiot.. the post goes bye bye and you are on a 3 day ban... But the mods totally allow the fanboys to run rampant calling you every name in the book and personally attacking you and not your post. I personally know that game is set to fail when they have that amount of shills and propaganda going on over there. If the game was any good it would stand on its own merits but it isn't and it won't and I hope they launch at xmas too thats another nail in the coffin of this blasphemas supposed mmo rpg game.

I guess you think of all themepark MMO's to be singleplayer games, since SWTOR has all the MMO features that those other MMO's have, and more.

Don't bother using common sense. I tried that yesterday and got a warning. Evidently, it's cool to talk shit about themepark games here on MMORPG.com, but if you defend games it can and will lead to a warning. Saying that, if you trash talk a sandbox game, it can and will lead to warnings and/or ban as well.
Sure do wish both the themepark crowd and the sandbox crowd were treated equally here on the forums instead of the Sandbox crowd given a license to trash talk all the want.
So you got banned 20 times from official forums? and yet all fault is with SWTOR moderators and community? wow..lol. Guess what if you are getting banned that many times you are definietely breaking TOS. As far as being a single co op player game, the sticky is on front page read it. SWTOR is a more complete MMO experince than so called MMOS like RIFT.
All i read was lot of anger and frustration towards SWTOR and community in your post.

Thats funny you said not as many are burnt out on traditional mmo's and I've practically said most traditional mmo gamers will be ticked off about how much tor is like a single player game with a monthly fee. Are you actually able to read and comprehend or are you just spouting off general crap because you think no one might call you out on your apparent lack of reading comprehension skills?

No you do need to read sticky because for someone who has been following this game for so long, you know nothing about it.

I think what Maverik was alluding to is that you are presenting your opinions and predictions as facts. For example, when you say "most traditional mmo gamers will be ticked off about how much tor is like a single player game with a monthly fee", you are presenting an opinion as a fact. Just my opinion mind you...

Do you automatically assume people have reading comprehension skills if they don't agree with ludicrous statements you spout?
TOR is not a singleplayer game with a monthly fee, which you'd understand if you have an inkling knowledge what features an MMORPG has. Or are you conveniently forgetting the open world pvp, crafting, pvp arenas, the flashpoint dungeons, the raid content and the open-world group quests? All of those can be traditionally found in MMORPG's, not in singleplayer games, that's using common sense for you. What you did, was tunnelvision focusing upon the questing that BW revamped.
Apparently you['re disgusted and nauxeous by changing quests in MMO's to be more like in singleplayer games, with VO/cinematics and choices that lead to different outcomes.
So, if you hate that enough to dismiss SWTOR, tell me honestly: do you like the quests as they are now in MMORPG's? Textbased, no choices? Because, if you hate how SWTOR questing will be, then you must love how current traditional MMO questing is, right?
So, SWTOR has all the traditional features an MMORPG has. That makes it as much an MMORPG as those other MMORPG's with those features.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
Man i thought we were past the point when people didn't know it was an MMO? didn't that line of thinking get debunked a year or so ago?
Kinda hard for it to be a single player game with so many group oriented features.
I could go on a list of features but i hardly think it's needed when the feature list that is sticky has all the info but *sigh* just for reinteration heres a few short features for group play
Hologram system that lets you interact with other peoples quest even if your not nearby
Multiplayer dialog that can change how the quest plays out for everyone in the group
Group quests
heroic quests
World Bosses
Flashpoints
Raids
PvP
...i think the point is proven.
Back on topic
The person who said this quote actually didn't dislike SW:ToR so it's not really negative, he actually like the questing part form what i got, he just didn't care for the combat part because it didn't feel fresh and new. Me? a game is made up of all parts. If all the parts are dull then the game is dull, if most of the parts are fresh and exciting then the game is fresh and exciting to me. I don't personally think you always need a active combat system to solve the problem. If the combat in this game is complex then the action bit isn't required. Btw if anyone is curious i wouldn't be surprised if you could do this in this game.
Have a Jedi force push a mob near a create of explosives and as the enemy is recovering have the smuggler blow the explosives up next to him to cause a lot of damage to the mob. So it's not always neccessarly always just stnad there and blast people in the face. You can use your surroudings (as in the case of the explosives) to get the upper hand.
Again though if the battles require thinking and being active and not just rotating abilities then it's interesting at least to me, each game uses a set of features to define their game. If the more tatical approach to combat isn't your speed thats fine. It's for me. I'll take Meowhead's line for use here because it's absolutely true
They made the combat for people like me, not for people like you.
So i don't have an issue with the combat myself and the choices in story and focus on it is exactly what i'm looking for, maybe this person wants a more action based combat? dunno. As for the NPCs themselves i would say they are far more lively considering they talk and move around and react to your actions, then other games where the npc stands in one place and a text box shows up. I dunno how many MMOs people have played but nearly all of them have NPCs standing still with nearly no emotion other then idle (which they do if your talking to them or not) which doesn't seem more fresh or lively then when one walks talks and reacts, but thats just me.
As for the negative reviews should be taken to heart? That depends on the (p)review, and if it works in the game intended. If your entire game is based around a certain combat type like SW;ToR is, and then some people ask you to make the combat a lot faster and more reactive, that would require a complete rework of the combat mechanics. For something like that you need at the very least a majority..which i don't think they have.
There is one aspect i think they should change, which is the space combat. I know it's suppose to be a mini-game and they never intended it to be more then that. But after SWG people did kinda expect that (what SWG gave) and when they didn't give it, it didn't go over very well. I don't expect massive worlds ala SWG or Eve but they could do a bubble type zone and i think that would please both sides equally well. However i think we are too far along now to try and change things before release. There is always an update or expansion. They are at least entertaining the idea for the game provided when people actually play it that it is a problem. see the problem is, most people who played it liked the aspects of the game, some didn't sure. But until you get a larger pool which i think can only be accomplish but letting a vast majority in/open beta/release can you get the real figures. You can look at a game all you want and decide if it's cool or not. But until you play it you can't know for sure if you like these features or not. you can like the idea of em but seeing them in action yourself is the true defining feature.
So far it appears most of the features of the game aren't a problem to the vast majority of people. Like previous posters said your not going to please everyone and sometimes the things people talk negatively about most are in full agreement of that it is a good idea. Do you try and please the 15 percent that don't like the feature or the 85 percent that do think it's a good idea? You have to balance a lot and i think most of this balancing has to happen after you get a large majority of the people to play the game. Then and only then can you get an accurate reading.
I'll wait on the world feels fresh alive or diverse part to stand with that until i get to play the game myself. Most previewers seem to think it does feel fresh alive and diverse so different opinion for different people.
oh and personal quest does not a single player make, sorry had to say that.
Edit: btw if anyone is curious if they do get an overwhelmling negative response to something from people who played the game, they will change it, at least they did when people didn't like the first UI. DE said and i'm paraphasing here. Some people like certain features, some don't, you always get that. That wasn't true of the UI, nearly everyone hated it, so we went back and reworked the UI to what you see today.
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.
Flame the OP all you want (and I must admit the shortness of the note has a bit of trolling..) but I am sure that will be the final verdict of reviews after launch. Most will say, it's a decend game, but not really stunning or "alive". I would be glad to be wrong, but I don't think I will.

My personal prediction on reviews will probably work out like this
Based from a 1-10 scale with 1 being horrid and 10 being awesome
Sound 9
Graphics 6
Gameplay 7
Story 9
world design 8
Final score 7.8
that is nearly 4 out of 5 starts
Not the best ever but good for the first romp into the MMO genre
Considering most games in the MMO genre now a days, decent/good looks amazing to most people.
Btw if your curious heres my prediction review for GW2.
Sound 9
Graphics 8
Gamplay 9
Story 7
World design 8
Final score 8.2
My personal predictions on scores.
So i think both will get good reviews and will look amazing to the MMO world. Seriously my trian of thinking is...if the game works and is at least a little bit entertaining its right up there with the big boys. Anything else is just gravy

Let's make a bet of it, I say that most will say that it's a great game that captures a Star Wars feel even if it won't be revolutionarily innovative. I do this based upon the 15 previews and reports that are saying things like this already for every preview/report that is moderate about SWTOR.
I bookmarked your post, we'll revisit it when the reviews will start rolling in

I can understand that point of view. It's nothing real innovative and it comes off as a somewhat cartoony themepark, style game. However, I bet it does very well because they have done an amazing job with the advertisement and PR aspect of the game. Time will tell. It won't be everyones cup of tea. I myself was hoping for a SWG 2 or something.

Previews were very positive in the begining when we saw very little, it was basically universally praised. As time goes by even the ones that were very excited and positive are changing their tune, even you can see that, no?
I doubt reviews are going to influence the box sales in the begining, but you might be in for a rude awakening.

What I can see when I look at all the available previews and handson reports objectively, which means looking at both positive and negative comments and not just focusing on one side that conveniently confirms or resembles my own viewpoint, is that so far the (vast) majority of those have been predominantly positive, with no sudden perceived drops in positivity.
In fact, I'd rather say it's the reverse of what you're saying: when people knew little or tried earlier versions, they were negative or sceptical, but when they played more of the game in a later version, they changed from being sceptical or indifferent to enthusiastic. And that excitement wasn't only coming from MMO vet journalists but also from newcomers to the genre who weren't that familiar at all with MMORPG's or the MMO genre.
This is in line with the comments made by people who I know have/had access to a beta.

Whilan, I really hope your wrong because it would show just how biased certain companies are. I mean, this game is much deeper than Lord of the Rings Online and that game at gamerankings.com with over 40+ Professional reviews got a 86+. See link here --->http://www.gamerankings.com/pc/914860-the-lord-of-the-rings-online-shadows-of-angmar/index.html I mean, even PC Gamer UK gave that game a 79. Maybe those kind of outlets will criticize SWTOR more since more time has passed, who knows, but I expect the reviews to be more like this:
Sound 9.5
Graphics 8.5
Gameplay 9
Story 10
World Design 9.5
Final Score 9.3 :-) lol..though it will probably end up in the mid to upper 80s since even the Witcher 2 got in the upper 80s due to just a few negative rants in the reviews and the negative score really weighs down the majority of the positive scores...kind of like the members of these forums where the 1 or 2 negative reviews weigh down the other ignored 40 positive reviews.

meh.....can't please everyone.
I know I will be pleased, and tbh that's all that matters
I hope both games are fun, enjoyable by large groups of people who are entertained for hours, days, weeks, months and hopefully years.

I really don't care what you read from my post. I'm in your face bluntful and truthful. I don't need to read any sticky on the frontpage. As I've said I've been following this game longer than this site and the people who run it, and I'm not concerned about advertisement $$$$$$$$$$$
Another self-important turdbag with his own blog craps out another unimportant opinion.
Really, why does anyone give a shit anymore?
its not a blog. LOL Someone wrote a review on 8 hrs of noob island in tor and said its a single player grind fest that will get boring... LOL
No you do need to read sticky because for someone who has been following this game for so long, you know nothing about it.
Just come out and say you don't want to like it. It's faster and more dignified than this post.
I think what Maverik was alluding to is that you are presenting your opinions and predictions as facts. For example, when you say "most traditional mmo gamers will be ticked off about how much tor is like a single player game with a monthly fee", you are presenting an opinion as a fact. Just my opinion mind you...
A man is his own easiest dupe, for what he wishes to be true he generally believes to be true...
That makes it as much an MMORPG as those other MMORPG's with those features.

why is it that every time i come to the SWToR forums i feel like i just lost some brain cells?
Currently Playing: SSFIV AE, SFxTekken, SWTOR, WoW. Waiting for: GW2, Resident Evil 6.
People don't ask questions to get answers - they ask questions to show how smart they are. - Dogbert

Me, I just want my beta invite.

There Is Always Hope!
