I used to play them to release stress and to meet people and accomplish certain tasks together. This became fun and kept me coming back.

My quote I used was " The game itself brings you to it, The people you meet is why you keep coming back."

Then every Tyler, Chase and Britney started playing and brought the gaming communities to such a state of idiocy and lack of comraderie that I can no longer play.

Ok, at this point we've gotten in 125 votes, and amazingly, there is nearly an equal amount of single-player gamers and group-players. I wouldn't say I'm shocked, though. Before making this poll I was reading numerous threads on the topic, and every other poster would favor single-player mmorpgs.

It's of course not possible to conclude much from this "pop-quiz", but at least I feel it's safe to say that the number of players enjoying single-player content in a multiplayer world is significant. Seeing how much content is being pushed out directed towards this part of the market, I'd say the internal business surveys the mmo companies are sure to be doing, probably indicate this part of our community is actually the majority.

For me, as a group player enthusiast, my seemingly only hope is that the "wow-clone" market is filled to the brim with companies trying to make a profit there, that someone is bound to cater more to the needs and wants of people like me.

I don't think that "WoW-clone" is really to blame for your lack of grouping options.  I wouldn't call myself a "group player enthusiast" as i enjoy all aspects of MMOs (solo, group and mass).

However, over teh past few years, I've played a number of games that (for the purpose of this discussion) would fit the "WoW clone" criteria - EQ2, Vanguard, AoC, LoTRO, Rift - and in all of them except LoTRO, i've probably done more grouping than soloing.   On the other hand, in games like Fallen Earth and EVE, which are unlikely to be classified as "WoW clone", i've spent most of my time soloing.

I think there are less games today that make it difficult to level without grouping, but  most games do encourage and reward grouping more than soloing and provide ample amounts of grouping content.  Except possibly WoW itself, which i've not played.

"I’d rather work on something with great potential than on fulfilling a promise of mediocrity."

    1. Persistant world where why actions imact it (I only play sandboxes)

    2. Players are much more fun to kill than mobs, pew pew pvp style rocks.

    3. Because I can't fly spaceships in real

    4. Becasue I cant make fireballs come out of my hands (or other places) in real

    5. Because it's all very serios business. ;)

Sorry, I had to choose "other" because I most often play with my husband, not solo these days, yet I don't appreciate forced grouped content. There was no option to "duo" in a massive world. So, I don't necessarily like to play alone (hence, I don't play single-player games) and generally don't like to PUG, and play according to an erratic enough schedule that I don't play well with guilds or scheduled group events.

Although I don't mind forced group content. I do want to jump on the bandwagon of lack of duo content. I really wish more games had challenging, quality, worthwhile content designed for small groups. Like duo, trio, or even 4 people. It always seems like some of the best content in games is designed for the solo artist or the guy with 25+ friends to join him.

Why can't we have more dynamic and challenging content for duos and trios?
