Funny thing is i think a lot of folks have already left. Oven in eq2 everybody I knew who left for rift with the exception of 2 folks have already come back. The other 2 are a husband a wife team and they went back to lotro ( i dint understand why). So that's 48 accounts that I know off, I know it don't seam like much but I am sure other folks are seeing the same thing.
I pretty sure a lot of folks in rift are just treading water waiting for tor or gw 2.
Just quit myself, about 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately, the only new content they have released was raids. Sure you have new dailies, but that's not really content in my book. The next patch is supposed to have new zones, so we'll see. Either way it was always just a filler mmo until star wars tor came out. I'm busy with mass effect 1/2 atm so, I'll prob not be going back. Was fun for awhile tho.
I don't think Rift is the worst at this by any means. There's only one portculum trainer per zone and the recall that every character gets. In some games, you have far more ways to teleport from here to there. I would have preferred a rentable rapid horse though that takes you through the area. People complain about travel times, but they're definitely part of the immersion...
I completely am with you about the raids. I don't have time to raid and am dismayed that it's basically this that they have planned, though the stuff for smaller groups sounds interesting. I dunno... I am pretty much burning out on the instanced dungeon thing though. I always preferred the kinds of dungeons in the old school MMOs and I fear that the way Rift is going is pretty much where WoW has already gone with cross-server groups and probably some sort of gearscore thing in the future. No thanks! It's already immensely hard to make friends in Rift, it will be even harder with cross-server grouping.
ya, see, alot of ppl can get into it. and im actually happy for them and Trion, b/c i think they put out a good game, just not one i seem to be able to get hooked by.
good luck ingame and i hope it givees you a lot of good play time.

SAme here. I was a bit of a Rift Fanboi in beta but raids dont float my boat. Got STO for £5.00 which is a bit of fun for 30 days.
Already quit and canceled sub a month or so ago. Rift was fun for me for a few months but after I hit the level cap I got extremely bored. I didn't care much for the raids, PVP, or the story behind the game to keep me going.
I like Trion but once The Old Republic and Guild Wars 2 come to town will Rift even survive ? Rift has done well so far but I sense their will be some major shifting here soon.
I like Trion too. Riftis a wonderful game for its' journey. As others have eluded to, though, there were major shifts by their 3-month post-launch mark. I can't see the value of playing the same lobby-system similar content rpg over and over, as most have demonstrated in so many mainstream mmorpgs before Rift.
Dont expect SW:TOR to be much different. Though GW2 might have some more distinguishing game-play, content and business-model architecture that might make it more appealing.
Shockily the free week got me to re-sub, i'll be sticking around til TOR/GW2/BnS/D3 -- Sorry there is 0 chance rift, even with my renewed interest in it, can compete with my self-proclaimed hype for these games.
My sub just renewed for another 3 months but after that i will probably quit. Let's face it, it's just wow with a lot less content, exploration, options etc. In itself that doesnt bother me but the funfactor just isnt big enough.

Lol, and what you think the new mmorpg's will be? All clones......
Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.

So maybe it's time to stop playing if they won't offer anything new or better.
Rift kind of reminds me of WoW when it comes to its playerbase activity wise.
For every person that leaves another one or two arrive.
The turnover rate in this game is insane. People get tired of it in like 6-8 weeks but there is so much buzz behind it and WoW is failing so hard with its current direction that people just keep coming.
Rift is a great two month romp of fun. Unless you are in a great guild like I am, then you might want to stay a while, but isn't that how all these games are?
If you are the lonely solo player you will have a great time playing it like a solo RPG. It is definately worth the $10 or less just for that.
With the plethora of upcoming releases, I suspect many people will leave and play SWTOR, GW2. Secret World and others in the next few months. Rift will probably see a decreae for awhile then after some given time, they will roll out some kind of promotion to lure players back. Ultimately most people aren't going ot confined to one game forever. I think most players play a game, them switch to another, go back to one they played, ect.. If a game is good and you enjoyed it, I believe eventually you will come back to it. How long may vary. I will use Guild Wars and WOW as examples. Most people played, probaby took some time off, then eventually came back for some reason. I think Rift will see something along these lines, however I don't think its in the class WOW or Guild Wars class either.

I agree with this. Well said. I've left Rift for now, not because of any issues with the game, but rather lack of time. I want to come back though as soon as possible. Right now I only have time for one MMO and that spot is occupied by something else at the moment.
I enjoy the jump-in-the-fray aspect of the game, and how it's so easy to form groups and have fun, but to complete invasions takes time that I don't have and same for the dailies.
It's fun for the leveling experience but aside from the way the classes work there's no reason to play Rift over WoW, and when SWTOR releases there won't be any reason to stay in Rift as SWTOR will offer the same WoW clone gameplay and an interesting class system. I don't think Rift will really see as much direct competition from GW2 because it seems to be very different from the status quo.

Honestly. thats what makes it great. If Blizz was like Screw it. blow everthing up and go back to Vanilla.. i'd be happy.

Rift is nothing like Vanilla WoW. Rift picked up at the WotLK expansion. Badge gear? Really? /gag ..
I made it for 2 months. Farmed through T2 and into raiding and realized I didn't need another warcraft (no I don't play warcraft anymore).
What really pissed me off about Rift was the "Everything in every other mmo, but better" .. which was complete BS. It's been a few month now so I can't remember any of it, but there are so many core mechanics not in Rift it's hilarious. Was fun. Was worth the box price .. but the world does not need another Warcraft.
LFD tools are great for cramming people into content, but quality > quantity. I am, usually on the sandbox .. more "hardcore" side of things, but I also do just want to have fun. So lighten up already

Nostalgia dims the memory. Vanilla was worse in many regards than WoW today, especially in regards to the roles of many classes. I'd never want my Shaman to go back to only being a healer in raids, or druids being innervate dispensers, or classic ret paladins.
More on topic.
Many of those in my guild who left to try out Rift came back within about two months. I'm glad I never picked it up, because the beta weekends were enough for me to realize that I wouldn't like the game.
Rift has some interesting systems, especially the multiclassing and the Rifts themselves, but they simply didn't deviate far enough from the WoW type model to truly make its mark. Which is sad, because the theory behind the rift events themselves is very interesting, just poorly implemented.
Wow was very fun at the beginning Kaneth! But now I think of it for 4 things. Hacking, Spamming, nerfing and community when I think of "wow". On the third item, wow keeps going back and forth and just confuses long term players. On the first 2, U will come to understand them. On the fourth, it's a foregone conclusion that wow is now a game for the immature and it is now their domain.
As far as Rift goes compared to Wow... Fresh game, but lacked in everything except for the rifts. Reaching level 50 is a breeze!
As far as the 4 things I mentioned above for Rift...No hacking and/or spamming yet.(As far as I know.) No nerfing(yet). But the community hasn't even come close to the WOW community.(Back when WOW was fun to play...first 2 years.)
My conclusing...I dislike them both and I'm waiting for a better game to come along.
Played Wow, D and L, AOC, GW, Eve, Rift and many more insignificant games.

How many will stay? HOW MANY WILL STAY YOU ASK?
It's over Nyan thousand.
The memelord hails you.
ToR and GW2 will take 75% of Rift's subs - however, Trion will make plenty of cash in the meantime.

Looking forward to: Nothing
Rift will die a quick and painless death as soon as swtor and gw2 will hit the shelves.
