Who's gonna pay for the upkeep of the servers that hardly gets used, which i'm getting the feeling would be the "hardcore" difficulty servers.

The chumps, as you so put it, perhaps?

Because i can gaurantee you that the servers that has nothing special except a higher diffculty is going to be sparsely populated.

    There we do again.

Did the guy, at any time, say anything about his playing style beeing superior or anything like that?

No, the guy is just finding the present challenge level in most MMOs too easy for him, and he would prefer a higher difficulty setting. Where is the elitism in that? He wants to have fun, period. Harder games would make gaming more fun for him, and he is happy with you playing on an easier server while he is playing on a harder one. He has taken your gaming preferences into account. Have you taken his?

I for one would play on the hardest server, the same way I play my solo games on the hardest difficulty settings, just becouse I have more fun like that. I don't go on the forums bragging that I completed Dragon Age on the hardest difficulty setting, I don't give a dime about what difficutly setting you completed it on. I just had fun my way and I am OK with you having your fun your way. Is it that hard to understand?

I has nothing to do with elitism but with plain fun. Simple as.

It has everything to do with elitism when you are constantly belittling the group you view as the inferiors. (In the broad sense, not you personally.)

Sure, YOU would play on the hardest server just for the thrill of it, you're a minority i'm sad to say.

Besides you should really read my edit to the post you quoted, i'm not saying he can't have higher difficulty settings, but having 4 different game versions over 4 different servers is just plain idiocy if you're out to make money.

He did make some elitists comments, and if you check it, I actually edited my post accordingly before you quoted me.

Anyway, I can see you got my point. Still, trust me, we are not such a small minority. As I mentioned, CO is one of the games I am playing, and I never have any problem finding groups to run the lairs on elite mode. Actually, I am pretty sure that most of the players choose that difficulty setting by default.

Your poll has 17 votes at the time i post this, 17.

That's the minority of the minority of the minority.

Hell, us mmorpg forum posters are a minority by definition.

As for you being a proud elitist, sure, go ahead but do try and avoid the personal attacks to the other side of the fence.

I'm sure the rewards are proportionate, and that's why i said "just for the thrill of it" let's say you can do something the easy way and get a little out of it, or the harder way and get a lot. Sometimes the harder path can be the easier in the long run.

It also depends on how difficult the "elite" version is compared to the power levels of the players, in DDO there is several quests that can be easily soloed by almost any class at their highest setting, at level i might add.

Sometimes "Insane difficulty mode" aren't all that difficult when it comes down to it, have you ever played Bioshock before they gave you the option of disabling the respawn chambers?

I think it should be mandatory for all "this game is too easy" posts to include what game, what level(s) the author is speaking about, etc.

Games have been getting easier on the low end (new players, leveling content) for most of the last dozen years.  There's a couple of pretty sensible reasons for it, too, including new player retention (a huge deal to all developers, because it makes or breaks your income).

Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.

Yes, in that game rewards on elite mode are better. Still, they are only microscopically better. Often, it's just about a higher chance of a cosmetic item dropping. Trust me, most of us who run it on elite do it just for fun.

If you think about it, I don't get any reward for playing my solo games on the hardest difficulty setting (other than the fun), yet I choose that setting 99% of the times.

I agree. Mmorpg's are way too easy. When fighting normal mobs in open world I feel like cheating it is really hard to die for me.

I am ok that some people want easy stuff, that very much okay ,but I really hope that this situation will have it's solution.

Difficulity slider jsut for instances is NOT enough.

Servers with diffrent difficulity sound very ok on the other hand. It can provide fun for diffrent kind of people.

I am sure that there is enough players to fill "harder" servers. If mmorpg beign AAA production has dozens of servers it definately can fill few 'harder' ones.

    IMHO

I want to underline though, that for me personally biggest pain is easy of open world mobs/quest + maybe some instances. They would need to be made much harder.

End game instances and raids have usually good level of difficulity or jsut need slight increase in difficulity.

Again, and i'm sorry, you are just a minority and so am i, i like a challenge too, but most don't care how they get there if there's a reward in sight.

If presented with two ways to do something, both of which the outcome was the same but one was easier than the other, most people would take the easier path.

It's just basic human nature to take the path of least resistance, and this being MMOs, if the easier path to the loot/levels is through grouping most people will indeed group, at least those who care enough to get into the game.

Or you can just do away with the whole thing like i just did and just quote the relevant part.

Since this bothers you i'll try and edit my earlier posts too.

WoW made a small mistake not too long ago, once they began offering experience for battlegrounds.  The XP rate in BG's was (for a while) better than could be normally achieved through PVE for the average player.

Not surprisingly, the BGs were suddenly far more active than they had been the week before.  As in an order of magnitude more active.

Once the inevitable axe fell and the XP rate was adjusted downward, the players (predictably) moved back to PVE.

You can indeed find players who will always create challenges for themselves (they make a lot of videos), but the Gamer Hivemind Organism can be counted upon to seek out the path of least resistance, always.

Indeed, and when i say the "hardcores" are in a minority i don't mean anything bad by it, i'm just stating that it's a group of people significantly smaller than the average.

Not always but  majority of the time sure. I know i was getting soo sick of end game grind in WoW that me and my wife rolled new toons and took off all of the heirloom gear (exp boost and OP gear) and stayed guildless (another exp boost) untill we reached CATA areas just so we didn't get bored leveling and didn't want to rush back to end game. It was still waay too easy and we quit, but not everyone enjoys the path of least resistance is all I am getting at. I would like to add that I like the idea of tougher content or servers. I spoke earlier only on the forced grouping side of things and not game difficulty.

This is probably the biggest reason im slowly receding from the MMO genre, these games are just absurdly easy and streamlined, and for what ever reason are only looking to get easier in future games.
