I agree with the OP, the game seems very tight, polished, and was made by one of the best game makers around "BioWare" and has lots of money to back them in the form of EA. Also the STar Wars IP is HUGE and enjoyed by many via the movies, books, video games, etc...WoW was great, but its time is long past....hopefully the a$$hats from WoW will stay in WoW and not ruin this game, like they almost did with WoW. Rememeber WoW trade chat and RAIDS?
PHOOEY!
Unfortunately, the "Origin Store" is the biggest enemy to this game, and smart people are buying the game from any major retailer except them....and maybe GS.
Also, EA/Origins attitude of marketing the game as the holy grail and "you had better place your order now and maybe we will have a copy available for you" is plain CHEESE, and makes some not want to not buy or play it.
My compromise was to AVOID EA/ORIGIN and bought it from a major retailer (other than GS).

There is nothing wrong with Origin. I bought my digital deluxe SWTOR version and have a few games through it and it works fine. It also does not need to be on to play games you purchase via the store.
That is not the thread topic though:
I don't think anything needs to "KILL" WOW and there is no reason I would want that. WOW has been a great game and experience for millions, including me. That being said with all I know now as a long time vet of MMOs, SWTOR MIGHT be the first MMO to offer up and comparable competition to WOW which would be healthy for the hobby.

But most SWTOR fans don't want the game to be a WoW killer. They just want a fun MMO that has the qualities they expect from Star Wars and Bioware type games. Plus, the problem with creating a WoW killer is you get the abnormal and revolting WoW playerbase. They don't know the square root of 4 but they can tell you how bad your gear is from helmet slot all the way to your boot slot. And let's not start on gearscore.
It has the elements to be a wow-killer. It will run on low-mid end computers, has an IP easily recognized and one that could encourage non-gamers to pick up the game, and good marketing.
Will it be a wow killer when it comes out? Absolutely not. Can it be a wow killer in a year two if they continue down the right path? It's possible.
Can someone please answer why everyone is so hung up on x game killing x game? No game has ever killed another ever. The only things that kill games is themselves by not putting out the best game they can. Or by copying other games to much. So again why do people think one game can kill another?
I still play wow . I have already pre ordered tor. That said wow will die by its own hand. Sure tor can help it out the door.
The fact is as long as blizzard keeps expanding into other countries like brazil they have a good chance of sticking around for a long time still.
The game is still fun. My biggest issue is some of the changes made to tanking and healing and the fact most of my freinds have left.
so now i log in and people i usually play with arent there no more . That shows wow is having issues already and rift and tor arent the culprit as much as i think some people just didnt like the cata expansion.

Because people like following teams. That's why.
It's no different than the seemingly endless debates over Coke vs. Pepsi, Mac vs. PC, Sandbox vs. Thempark, PS3 vs. 360, Star Trek vs. Star Wars, etc. Some folks just have to have a "winner" and a "loser" for some reason, instead of realizing that the market can easily support both, and then some.

Well I wish common sense was in higher levels with all people to fix silly debates like this.
One themepark for another, and the hope is just to kill a game a lot of people still enjoy. You don't like it? Thats fine, it doesn't need to die. I just want something thats not trying to be the next WoW. This game is trying to be the next WoW. If that causes WoW to loose subs it doesn't have any sway over those that don't like WoW, because its just another game thats almost the same as it.
Wow will not die, just evolve. It might drop in subs but it may remain to be one of the highest grossing mmos of our time. How can that be a bad thing for them? Blizzard also has StarCraft 2 and Diablo 3 as well. Blizzard has their neck covered and will be getting our money again one way or another in the near future. Wow may come in a cool second or even third after GW2 releases, but wow will always live and will always thrive, it's hard core support base will for what ever reason, return to that game, others will of course join the new found EMPIRE and never look back!
If it tops wow in subs does that somehow make it a better game in your eyes? What if it doesn't? Who cares? If you find tor fun, play it. If you don't, don't.
Swtor could kill WoW. It won't because it's just not a good enough game to do it, but there is no reason to believe that WoW can only be stopped by Blizzard. Gamers have no particular allegiance to WoW. It just happens to be the only really playable, well polished mmo with plenty of content out at the moment.
If another game comes along that does it better than WoW, I can totally see the playerbase jumping ship.
What that dude said above. I'm a SWTOR fan but I do know that WoW will not die. Look at Runescape, Farmville. They have around the same number of players as WoW if not more. To remain competitive all WoW would have to do is go F2P. You can't kill it!
Although... If SWTOR releases and a few months later WoW goes F2P and increases the cash shop I will LMAO so hard.

Name one time a game has killed another. Not a wow fan at all but its just never gonna happen. It never has and never will.
Yeah. It's almost like some people want this game to kill wow so bad but do not realize the true impact such a thing could gave on mmos all around. Do you consider that if wow did go down because of the success of one game, what happens to all the other mmos that were lesser than wow? Consider that logic. To want the death of wow is to desire the monopoly of one game to rule them all. This would not happen of course but how could you even want that?

Let me look into my Crystal Ball.
Nope WoW will do just fine.
Also to note I do not play WoW and I am not a WoW fanboy just a realist.

Um, Wow did when it came out. I was playing SWG at the time. The devs literally tried revamping the game from sandbox to themepark to try and capture of the WoW magic. After the change there was a mass player exodus and the game has been garbage ever since.
WoW is top dog right now not because it's this unbelievably awesome game. There's just nothing better out at the moment. It's totally reasonable to assume that if some new game came out tomorrow that was head and shoulders better than WoW, all the WoW players would jump ship and play the new game instead.

I am not saying it will or won't, but just don't pretend that you do.

Would of been better off changing EQ to Hello Kitty Online :S
As for the OP being a troll maybe so but there is people out there who truly believe it will kill "X" game
This game has as much chance to take WOW down as any other MMO that has been released.
Not going to happen.
As good or as bad as SWTOR may be, it’s a Star Wars game. That does not appeal to everyone. {Not that WoW does} It has a huge fan base and will do well just for that reason. But it will NOT take down any games.
WoW is huge for a few reasons. Works on Crappy systems, simple to play, Polished, and Easy to get a hold of.
So WoW will rope in all the people who are not gamers with money for big systems and for people who can't handle a complex game. That Alone will keep a HUGE player base.
A WoW killer won’t happen. It’s a myth like the Tooth Fairy
..I'm sorry, but..My computer absolutely BLOWS and even it has the min requirements for TOR..
Playing Nothing waiting for The secret world Played WoW, DCU online, star wars: the old republic, city of heroes, city of villains, everquest, plenty more I'm probably forgetting or aren't worth noting.

When people say kill I don't think they mean make the game shut down I believe they really mean serverly cripple its subscription base, by that definition WoW did "Kill" basically every MMO out there. It did that because it was simple better than everything out there(To the majority of people).
2010 and on seems to be a great time for MMOs, With TOR and GW2 coming up you have more varity. Instead of one polished MMO you get a huge 2.

We might have ping pong gamers that will bounce back and forth between games depending on which one has the most recent expansion!

Pretty Sure WoW will still be around.. infact i bet it keeps 80% of their subs

That would be about 2.5 million subs on TOR.
