Why is this so hyped?

PancakeEffctPancakeEffct Member Posts: 42

EDIT: Answers found why it's so hyped below, disregard origional message.

I've been looking all over the website and the internet for something that makes this game so hyped...and I can't find anything. It just looks like a (edit: or better worded copy and pasted mmo template), nothing too innovative.

Or am I missing something here?

I mean planetside 2 looks a lot better in terms of a futueristic MMO, and quite alot more innovative based off the details.

-----------------

Edit: My intentions are not to troll. I'm truely just looking for a good list of innovative features that should make me want to purchase this over other mmos. I was just inquiring about it...and why it's voted as 3rd in top voted games lol. I think it's a fair enough question.

FOR ALL THOSE WONDERING

Edit: After digging through all the troll answers I found on. I found a good answer and description that sums it up quite well if anyone else is wondering. I'll say it sounds interesting that's for sure.

It's a 3 faction based PvP mmo in space, this setting already is something you never have seen before. The last 3 faction pvp mmo was DAoC. It is based on your distribution of your skill points among the 15 abilities per class, not on getting to max level and grind gear.

Another big point in this game is crafting being the main motivation to PvP by getting the resource Prime and it also being the best source of gear and gadgets over grinding your BiS gear from scripted PvE encounters.

From what we know so far the gameplay itself is nothing like WoW or Aion neither, you have jetpacks that you use in combat, making it very agile and fast paced combat, less standing on the same spot for hours and getting off spells.

But what so far impressed me the most was the developers during the life chats, they chat around with you, answer all kind of questions the users ask in the chat live, they seem to be motivated to make a fun game, they seem to have fun too and it also appears they read the forums themselves, say when they agree or disagree. Overall, the way the dev team responses this game appears to be promising so far. The beta should be starting within the next weeks, I'm sure more information is on the way.

because some player are tired of the copy/paste of blizz winning mmo recipe.

If after scouring their website and the internet you feel it is a WoW and Aion clone then I suggest you either go and see your Doctor or Optomotrist.

I'm personally not particularly hyped for the game but the thread seems like a troll one to me.

This game doesn't sound all that much like WOW to me, more like DAOC with it's three faction PVP focus. It sounds like it has an interesting approach to PVP, I like the Bounty Hunting idea, a better approach than SOE took in SWG.

Exactly, Rift was not innovative (IMO) and had lots of hype

not even remotly like wow or aion O_O. heck swtor is closer to wow than prime will ever be

  • TheLizardbonesTheLizardbones Member CommonPosts: 10,910

The game has a lot of features that if they are actually implemented will give sandbox players a lot of joy. Heck, if implemented right, the game could give players looking for a change a lot of joy as well.

They also hired a Sanya Weathers as the community manager. Even if the game is horrible, hiring a well known and respected community manager was a very bright move. It means they not only want to have a good relationship with their players, they have some idea of how to go about doing it.

Right now, they are doing everything right. Right features, right community involvement, etc. They did the majority of their development before announcing their game and are now slowly delivering information about the game.

We'll know if the hype is deserved once the game launches of course. :-)

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

I'm seriously not trying to troll by making this thread. I'm truely wondering what makes this game special? Why is it hyped? I can see why people are hyped about archeage, it looks like an amazing sandpark game. The housing looks great, the pvp looks great, etc.

Planetside 2 looks amazing, I mean FPS giant mmo? Looks great.

Starwars, bioware = great story that's a given why it's hyped.

Guild wars 2 is kind of a same wow clone, but it has a huge community behind it, great story, pvp is fun too. The financial model is great also.

But this game? It's hyped up with the big boys...I mean I see nothing really innovative...so it has some big pvp? I didn't really read anything about housing, skill system. It looks like just a point and click boring mmo that can't compete with others.

That's why I ask what makes it different? Am I missing something? lol

    A) What game?  I've barely heard of it.

    B) What hype?

ArchAge has hype.  SWTOR has hype.  GW2 has hype... hell even TERA and DMO 40k.  This game?  Uhmmm...

I've never even heard of this game till I seen this thread, can't be that hyped O_o. If it is a DAoC clone.. yum yum, been looking for a game thats like daoc but more recent for years.

Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:

    A. Proven right (if something bad happens)

    or

    B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)

Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!

Aye, alot of people are, thats why I don't think SW:ToR is all that great, its just another wow-clone in the making from what I seen anyway. Though the voice acted storys will help with the linear quest based grind, assuming its not the typical Bioware story they use in every one of their games. Either some Great Evil, or someone Good becoming corrupt is usually Bioware's MO. Not that its a bad thing though, getting to that point is usually quite well done, other than DA2, it was kinda obvious what was gonna happen in that game.

Skill system; again... read a lil bit...

Dont post some kind of trolling post on a game you didnt even read anything about...  one word : noob....

I'm not quite sure if it is actually "hyped", but before you start trashing a game or start making comparisons you should maybe read up on it.

Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!

I sometimes wonder, do they give you guys an information packet with pre-scripted opinions and easy-to-use buzzwords?

I'm hyped for the 3 faction PvP, and the cool alien races/classes. My biggest concern with a Independent-developed PvP game is, as always, the cheaters. Hopefully the devs can block them as well as Valve does. One of my major disappointents so far is tab targeting. I don't really care for tab targeting in a game where I shoot people.

lol those people think I'm trying to troll. As I stated it was a sincere question.

But yet..not one has stated any reasons what makes it differnt than other mmo's and why it's worth the money compared to others. Again the reason I ask is because it's rated number 3 in top rated games. I've playe about every major and some minor mmos out there. I really enjoy sandbox mmos.

But All I read over and over for answers was something like this:

unconsumed Sci-Fi genre                       (I like this as well but how does that compare to eve or planetside 2?)

Pitchblack as an indepedent developer  (Okay)

3 different factions                                    (That's kind of innovative..but again is three factions really that big of a deal? I mean you get the same deal in sandbox games...there are no factions, you just play who and what you wish...that's a little more innovative)

Open World Endgame PvP (A lot of mmo's already have it, again upcoming games like archeage, planetside 2, or older games like Darkfall and Mortal Online already have this)

Crafting that matterrs                               (In a lot of games it does :P)

So other than this...again what makes it different to make a customer want to buy this compared to another mmo?

It's a sincere question, no one has answered yet. Again my intenetion was never to troll.....I was more hoping for a good list of what makes this a good mmo.

One word for you (Indie). It looks like a pile of cartoony crap to me it has the same point and click combat system as every other game. Yet ToR gets alot of static for this and ToR way better graphics, not to mention Prime's character models all look deformed to high hell.

  • TheLizardbonesTheLizardbones Member CommonPosts: 10,910

@pancake - Several people have told you why the game has a high hype rating. You're not confused, you don't agree with anyone. You may have started off being curious, but now you've edged into troll territory.

Perhaps you don't understand the concept of a popularity contest? That's what hype rating is. Perhaps you can't understand that the hype is related to information currently available for a game and not the game itself? Maybe you just thought to yourself, "Here's something people like...I'll poke it with a stick until somebody argues with me."

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
