That's why I ask what makes it different? Am I missing something? lol

It's a 3 faction based PvP mmo in space, this setting already is something you never have seen before. The last 3 faction pvp mmo was DAoC. It is based on your distribution of your skill points among the 15 abilities per class, not on getting to max level and grind gear.

Another big point in this game is crafting being the main motivation to PvP by getting the resource Prime and it also being the best source of gear and gadgets over grinding your BiS gear from scripted PvE encounters.

From what we know so far the gameplay itself is nothing like WoW or Aion neither, you have jetpacks that you use in combat, making it very agile and fast paced combat, less standing on the same spot for hours and getting off spells.

But what so far impressed me the most was the developers during the life chats, they chat around with you, answer all kind of questions the users ask in the chat live, they seem to be motivated to make a fun game, they seem to have fun too and it also appears they read the forums themselves, say when they agree or disagree. Overall, the way the dev team responses this game appears to be promising so far. The beta should be starting within the next weeks, I'm sure more information is on the way.

This is pretty much the only guy that answered in a civil manner. That's all I wanted to see xD Okay I see your side now. Thanks Joekra. That filled in the vauge points I was curious about. And thanks for not trolling about it.

Prime is a SciFi Sandbox which focuses alot of the activity on combat, isntead of free for all PvP looting, and crafting as the 2 primary sources of content.  Both of those are the 2 worst sandbox elements that arent taking seriously by the mainstream.

Prime is as close to a WoW clone as Eve is lol.  Troll says what?

for those interested in today's live chat at noon pst:

    http://www.ustream.tv/channel/pitch-black-games

lol those people think I'm trying to troll. As I stated it was a sincere question.

But yet..not one has stated any reasons what makes it differnt than other mmo's and why it's worth the money compared to others. Again the reason I ask is because it's rated number 3 in top rated games. I've playe about every major and some minor mmos out there. I really enjoy sandbox mmos.

But All I read over and over for answers was something like this:

unconsumed Sci-Fi genre                       (I like this as well but how does that compare to eve or planetside 2?)

Pitchblack as an indepedent developer  (Okay)

3 different factions                                    (That's kind of innovative..but again is three factions really that big of a deal? I mean you get the same deal in sandbox games...there are no factions, you just play who and what you wish...that's a little more innovative)

Open World Endgame PvP (A lot of mmo's already have it, again upcoming games like archeage, planetside 2, or older games like Darkfall and Mortal Online already have this)

Crafting that matterrs                               (In a lot of games it does :P)

So other than this...again what makes it different to make a customer want to buy this compared to another mmo?

It's a sincere question, no one has answered yet. Again my intenetion was never to troll.....I was more hoping for a good list of what makes this a good mmo.

Go read K&G's site here:  http://www.keenandgraev.com/?p=5224

It doesn't have to always be the same template. BUT if it has cool features why not? I'm an open minded person.   I really give kudos to people trying new things. I don't like being spoon feed the same game, different setting "with slight changes" and slap a new name on it, "eh." Games in my book that deserve higher hype rating are the ones that try to revolutionize and innovate. Again I think Archeage,Planetside 2, etc are more deserving. Hell even games like Mortal Online I give great respect to (even though the game turned out quite badly)   But that has nothing to do with this thread.   All I really asked for was a list of what makes this game different. lol. Never meant to really even discuss it, I was asking "why is this game so hyped" I was expecting people to give me a list of great features, not in reality just troll my thread. If you think it's going to be great tell me why? I haven't looked at their blogs, random dev videos etc or anything. I just looked at the website briefly and looked at their feature list and didn't see anything that caught my eyes. Is there anything that caught yours that I missed?

You want to know why the game has the hype level it has. People responded (and I'm one of them, read my first post). You've responded with, "It's not different!" You expected a feature list, but instead people told you what they liked about the game. Which is what the hype meter is for...it is literally a list of games that people think they like.

Here's one reason - they hired an already well known and respected community manager, facilitating clear communication with the potential players.

Here's another reason - they waited several years before telling anyone they were developing the game. They focused on development, not advertising. This bodes well for the game being functional at launch, rather than a buggy mess.

If you want more information, maybe you should read the forums on their website for awhile (a link to the website was provided for you). I would think the people posting on Prime forums are a lot of the same people posting on these forums and adding to the hype meter.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

  • PancakeEffctPancakeEffct Member Posts: 42

^^I'll tell you what I did. I saw the hype on the on this site, so I imediately went to their website and looked at all of their feature list and inormation they had on it. And didn't see anything to crazy. So I googled gameplay and just saw a random guy flying around in a jetpack.. It looked alright. So I made a thread asking about it, because I don't feel like making an account and posting on their website, and not wanting to go through all their forums for my answers. I figured let the hyped players give their take on it.

So after going through some nasty troll post, I found some good insight and links that people posted on here that can sum it up for anyone wondering. There are some good details that were not properly explained on the details planel on the site.

God forbid you ask a question of this nature. lol. But all as good, I bet many people were wondering the same question. A lot of people never heard of the game, yet it cropped up here on the top rated list. So now that the question has been answered "I edited it on op" we can enjoy looking at why this game is hyped.

Based off reading the details on the website and the short gamepaly videos, yes that's what it looked like at first glance. Just a copy and paste template game again.

    BUT

Look at the messages above, or put on some glasses :P And read the edited origional message. There were some really good answers explaining why it was NOT a clone.

You're welcome, for now I can only recommend to follow the game as much as you like, maybe check out the live stream later today (there is a thread about it here on these forums) and maybe try it out one day.

Planetside 2 looks amazing, I mean FPS giant mmo? Looks great.

Starwars, bioware = great story that's a given why it's hyped.

Guild wars 2 is kind of a same wow clone, but it has a huge community behind it, great story, pvp is fun too. The financial model is great also.

But this game? It's hyped up with the big boys...I mean I see nothing really innovative...so it has some big pvp? I didn't really read anything about housing, skill system. It looks like just a point and click boring mmo that can't compete with others.

One word for you (Indie). It looks like a pile of cartoony crap to me it has the same point and click combat system as every other game. Yet ToR gets alot of static for this and ToR way better graphics, not to mention Prime's character models all look deformed to high hell.

I assume you played both games on similar settings to judge which one looks better.

Seriously though, don't judge graphics from a pre beta state on few single videos, you make yourself appear more of a troll than some think of the starter of this thread. For the "deformed to high hell" it's always a matter of taste. Feel free to try prime some day or just skip it.

Either way, you made a really stupid assumption without even investigating the game. The first thing you should've realized was three different factions, which descriminates from WoW almost instantly.

I did investigate. Again if you can read, that's what I stated. I looked at the main features list on the site and watched the trailer, it honestly did not properly explain well on some of the neat features it has that it should have done to do it justice.. Again my op stated "why" not "it shouldn't be" ..this thread was to further my research "and change my assumption" about the game by asking the people who were currently hyped who would know more about it

And no 3 factions does NOT make it instantly differnt. What makes it differnt is the many neat features it has as the people described above. The core of the game.

Why should you/we/them/us compare it with anything else ? Anyway, there's lore on the official website, read it !

Pitchblack as an indepedent developer  (Okay) ...

3 different factions                                    (That's kind of innovative..but again is three factions really that big of a deal? I mean you get the same deal in sandbox games...there are no factions, you just play who and what you wish...that's a little more innovative) You've never played a 3 faction MMO then, its not the same thing as a sandbox, Mortal online or Darkfall there's nothing that make you fight for the whole thing you've leveled in. Goal of the game is to work with your faction, not ignore peoples playing with you.

Open World Endgame PvP (A lot of mmo's already have it, again upcoming games like archeage, planetside 2, or older games like Darkfall and Mortal Online already have this)  Ahhahaha you're funny... Darkfall and mortal online have some kind of open world PvP, but its not the same thing as DAOC had and still have. Open world endgame PvP doesnt only mean that you can kill peoples once you're max level, it means that there's a goal, objectives, something that wont force you to PvP, but instead you'll have trouble to log out while there's a big war going on, because you're thinking about your realm and realmates. Rift, WoW, AoC, WAR, they all have open world endgame PvP, but with 2 faction there's nothing that bring something different, its a face to face and the best (insert gears, loots, guild, classes) who win.

Crafting that matterrs                               (In a lot of games it does :P) Yeah and in a lots of game the stuff you craft is junk compare to loots from raid, instance, PvE. Oh and you didnt read the info about crafting in prime, there's some kind of system i never saw in any MMO yet. Read... read more !

So other than this...again what makes it different to make a customer want to buy this compared to another mmo? 3 faction PvP focus MMO where crafting stuff is the best gear of the game, open world PvP fighting for objectives ! thats all ! What do you want more than that ? Lets see SWTOR; 2 faction PvE MMO with PvP, raid, instance battleground, saberlaser, jedi, dark jedi and someting called Force that can strangle peoples. Now remove the stupid funny thing i've wrote and insert those features in WoW, Rift, AoC, Aion, etc..etc.. Why does peoples play them ? Because as far as i can see, its the same thing everywhere ! PvE, raid, loot, epic loot, a big IP and meaningless PvP...

It's a sincere question, no one has answered yet. Again my intenetion was never to troll.....I was more hoping for a good list of what makes this a good mmo.

    {mod edit}

Oh and if you've read every answers you've got, then you would probably have all your answer by now if you had read the official forum of the game instead...

For a lot of people, 3 factions does make a game different. I've never played DaoC, so I can't really say whether it's important or not. But to many people, that is a key feature of the game...nearly a good enough reason by itself to hype the game.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

    Prime has a trailer?

a game that has 3 factions, and a REAL emphasis on PvP, and where crafting is also emphasized and important is a game that has my interest. plus as many have already stated they(devs) seem to be truly INTERESTED in what we(players) like and dislike.

Prime has quite some nice features. 3 Faction OPvP and a meaningful crafting system. The dev team is down to earth and you can realy tell they are gamers. They seem to know what they doing and so far the whole game looks like a very good package.
