To be honest.. The gameplay didn't look cool at all. The cutscenes felt smooth at least but besides that it didn't make me want to play it. =/
That was a level 8-10 area lol
What's "lol" about it?
The fact it was a low level "Flashpoint" (Dungeon)? So are you "loling" at Bioware for not showing something different?
The fact it is a low level area so you are "loling" at everyone who thinks the game is poor because you think they are expecting too much of a low level area?
The fact it is a low level area so you are "loling" at everyone who thinks the game is good because you think the area should be better polished and this shows the probable state of the game?
Or are you "loling" because you think it's funny that he thinks it didn't look cool? In which case is that a "lol" - "I told you so!" or a "lol" - "you are going to miss out"?
Please explain the "lol" in context.
Or... are you one of those unfortunate people who thinks "lol" = "full stop"?
I liked the video, liked the story, found the decision to eject the engineers into space not jedi like but well - its like superpowers behave...sacrifice anyone, anything, anytime, anywhere for the slightest advantage..."its for the greater good" blahblah...gladly i play a bounty hunter and must not lie to my self for why i am killing people!
I live for killing the Force Freaks, pests of the universe...nothing less
Combat was standard but i am glad not to epxerience another well meaned but bad executed experiment. The debris throwing jedi looks somewhat ridiculous throwing this barrel or whatever it is out of nowhere. Close combat with guns looks also a bit strange but it was not a problem in swg and it will also not matter in swtor. Dont like the republic classes - i am all for Bounty Hunter and Agent. Graphic is ok, hope for good textures and very good lighting bcs that brings the most to the atmosphere of a game. Skirts still look like chewing gum wrapped around legs... Hair doesnt look to good but i can ignore it. One of the biggest points is the SOUND! Sound like in the movies how everybody expects it will be a big point if done right or wrong. I am quite optimistic for the game...it could bring in a whole lot of new players into mmos and there be similarities to blizzards first mmo regarding to the fanbase the company bioware already has, also the ip, now the game must deliver.

Same for me. It just looks odd seeing all the player characters line up in a row and just disappear once someone wins a roll. Not even giving a reaction to what another player chose. They need to get the player more animated and have them move about or something. Feels too artificial for my tastes.
I will love the content i think bioware has done well witht hat, i have no trouble with the stop start of the progress allows time for a cup of tea. Yeah and what happens if all players but one choose the light side dialog option and the one that chose the dark side option wins the roll? Are the others just allowed to stand idly by and watch this other player (in this case) murder the engineers?

I am loling because people are asking to much for a game for a low level area. If you compair that to say WoWs The Deadmines and its a whole ton of better. Thing smashing threw the walls and mobs attacking. Story break points. Boss showing up for a reason not just because they spawn in X room. Sorry but if people knock this for being level 8-10 content. I have to lauch at them and now ask. Where have you seen better content for that level range. Remember that was only a part of that dungeon.

Okay, fair enough.
I guess it depends on how the whole game is structured and whether what we saw is a repeatable instance or not?
It is very story driven clearly... and your post above reminded me of something...
Where have I seen this before (Stuff crashing through walls I mean).
The game "Firewarrior" - but of course that was not an MMO.
I enjoyed watching the video. So my understanding is if I choose the light-side in the conversation, while other choose the dark-side, even if the dark-side is won conversationally, I dont get penalized with dark-side points; is that accurate?
The negative I would have is that it appears like the Smuggler game-play didn't look to hot at all.
Your understanding is correct. Bioware has covered this a few times. You gain points based on your choice not the group or conversation leaders choice.
That's cool, then. I't would have been a nice commentary in the walkthrough, mentioning that point, eventhough all the players chose the dark path.
What still bothers me is the jettisoning all the Engineers to their death and then acting all rah rah we are heroes afterwards. War calls for some bad stuff sure but ack, just makes me think again how the "Republic" are put forth as the good guys but in reality they are not.
But I am likely be the most light side pointed BH in the galaxy, we'll see.

Thinking about it, the walkthrough made me curious as to how the story works, if the light-side response were chosen. Based upon how much work goes into content and story, I'm assuming that if you "chose" the light-side at that point in this Flashpoint, that the outcome would have been the same, but the NPC within the story (Ambassador Asara?) would have been the one that jettisoned the crew, instead of showing one of the player characters doing it.
But regardless, it seems that as long as "you" choose the light-side responses, you'll never get dark-side credit.
Shouldn't content be decent regardless of level though?
Yes but depth of the experence changes as you level. BioWare cant make level 10 content as deep as level 50 content. People need time to learn their chars and how other classes interact with their class. Also a level 10 char skills and powers are not as focused as at level 50. So throwing scenarios at a level 10 team they would face at level 50 would be a disaster. Why? Players dont know the game and the chars dont have the powers/skills to handle that level of depth.
Again like my last post compair this level 10 dungeon to Deadmines in WoW. Or by what your saying The Deadmines in WoW vs Litch Kings "Icecrown Citadel" That would be dumb. So lets compair level 10 content to level 10 content and see how this stacks up. So again for level 10 content its smoking!!!!

Maybe so, could be why they have her come running up and there to push the button herself if the players do not.
Also having the guy turn his back on them before pushing the button was cowardice, imo. At least have the honor to face them and ask if they have any last requests they want taken care of before you sacrifice them. If the Ambassador pushed the button it would be nice to have the option to see her punished for the action as well upon returning.
Yeah I probably overanalyze it but think of the situation as reality and the morals of it get really tricky :P
One thing I dislike is that game tells you you need to kill 5 pigs by forcing the player to skim through a 5 minute cutscene.
But then again, Im the guy who likes to skip quest text and just read the cliffs from quest journal.
No, you are not "the guy". You are in fact one of the many.
This is where I think Bioware have got it wrong. They simply don't know the MMO market.
"We" (meaning the majority of MMO players) might say we want story - but in reality we just want to do the quest and move on.
I can see a lot of people losing patience with this title.
I agree --- a lot of people will lose patience and many of us here are totally unimpressed with the game as we've seen it so far --- but you can sense its going to be massively popular.
So that means bringing in new MMO players. Bioware fans. SW fans.
Which will make things interesting to watch. I really wonder how the community will go.

Hmmm....I can't stand playing any MMORPG for longer than a month or two because of the simplicity involved when you bypass stories and just click through for your kill or deliver quest.
Have any of you three who posted, played and enjoyed any single player RPG? Or do you expect to skip through story in MMOs, but not single player? I know of one bloke, who can't stand story in single player or mmo and just presses the first option in every single player game...quite defeating the purpose, I will not be playing SWTOR with him.

Thats the problem with most MMORPG players these days. Well actually that's what this generation is like with everything. Instant gratification and sense of entitlement. They want everything as fast as posible and hate working for it. Look how much WoW changed from its orignial form.. Classic example as it was the catalyst for this pattern in MMO's. This game is trying to bring back RPG to the genre and I welcome it. Dealing with real choices and consequences and watching them play out brings me back to my pen and paper days. Except we get to see it animated instead of in our head.

Indeed I have. In fact - I enjoy the story.
But the fallacy here is in that you think when I posted I was talking about ME and you think that other people like the same things as YOU.
Whether we like it or not, for SW:TOR to survive it has to have customers. By customers I don't mean just you and me and a few dozen others who like stories logging in for a couple of hours a week either.
So, like it or not Bioware need to create a game that will retain customers. That means a game that has replayability and maintains interest - enough to encourage a long term subscription.
This is where you cannot simply port a Single Player RPG to an MMO setting.
Yeah, I have played Single Player RPGs. But when I buy a Single Player RPG I buy it as a stand alone game. I pay my $$$, install the game, and then I can play it at my leisure. Also, I can develop my character as I choose. There is no pressure on me and my choices do not affect others and are not affected by others. And I never have to pay again either.
Aso in a single player RPG I expect the story line to be given to me. I expect a 'goal' and a main plot line to follow - I expect an end.
In MMOs I don't expect an end. I expect a world.
Now, I kind of hope SW:TOR will change the attitudes of players. Slow them down a bit and make them appreciate the story a bit more. That would suit me. But I am a realist here and I think Bioware may have misjudged this market.

Well, I DO tend to read quest text. However I lose patience with VO and cutscenes, even in single player games. It is just so slow.

You couldn't be more wrong. Sure, there are people who are in heaven when they can quest level purely by skipping all quest text and just treating quests as tasklists on a fasttrack to level cap, some MMO gamers might find this the ultimate way to enjoy leveling their character.
However, a lot of MMO gamers like it when questing and the journey to level cap has some more context and immersion than doing quest task lists.
In fact, the vast majority of people who actually played SWTOR confirmed this and said that they found questing in SWTOR far more enjoyable than in the standard way of questing in current themepark MMO's. So maybe someone'd lose patience with SWTOR, but for that one person there'll be 4-5 other people who'll enjoy it and like it very much, this SWTOR way of questing.

I actually think combat has improved since earlier videos. maybe its just that they were level 9, but I was happy to see no one standing there spamming heals like that other flashpoint vid months ago. Also, maybe it was the level 9 thing again, but where are the companions?
