Guild Wars 2 release announcement imminent?

draussdrauss Member Posts: 93

They said they would have something big for us at Gamescon and they certainly are opening up many demo features such as :

1. All seven revealed professions are playable.

2. 3 starter areas are available to play. Charr, Human and Norn.

3. Character customisation is now open. Lets you actually customise your appearance but I believe this to be restricted to the Charr, Human and Norn.

4. Sylvari and Asura both available playable for mid level demo with new content areas and new bosses.

5. PvP!!!!! They have barely talked about pvp and now they are just giving it to us! Likely something like Team Area or Random Arena from Guild Wars. WvW will be a beta thing I think.

As with every other demo that they have shown there will be a suprise most likely that will whip the fans into a frenzy. It is likely to be one or all of the following:

1. Arenanet will annouce public Beta for October / November and will give pre-purchase access through the NCsoft store.

2. They will annouce / include the final profession in the demo build.

My reasoning behind this is the massive flux of information recently and build up of hype coming into the convention season. It is the perfect time to hype the game and garner attention coming towards the xmas season.

The sound aspects of the game appear complete. Dynamic sound mixing that randomises the experience. Wow I thought that the events were cool but wow...

You can bet the music is a done deal also.

They are showing the final 2 races so they must be in the stage of polish and balance as they don't show it until its set in stone pretty much.

They are showing PvP. PvP has been a cornerstone of the Guild Wars community since its launch over 6 years ago. It is the final jewel in the crown and it seems they are ready to share it. The core mechanics of builds over PvP will be the same throughout all PvP game modes. So if 1 is finished it is reasonable to assume that so are the others or are incredibly close to complete. We will likely get a flood of info about PvP and access to WvW in the Beta.

PvP is going to be a huge attraction for GW2. My eyes are on Open World PvP, and what that entails. Is there going to be seige warfare? How large scale are the battles? What kind of terrain is offered and how it will be exploited open world and instanced?

So many questions, and I hope we get to some very interesting answers.

These are very interesting times, indeed.

Oh man do I hope so. Although I am not tired of talking about GW2 as some of the others are, it would be nice to have a new stream of details to talk about. I would love to have some more set in stone information to feed my RL friends on their WoW guild page. I flood it regularly.

Martin Kerstein posted over at GW2 Guru that: "we will not reveal a new profession or give a beta/launch date at PAX Prime" , so I would not expect anything along those lines.

Hmmm but Gamescon is 1st and Arenanet are very coy about these things

Might you be referring to NCSoft making a world exclusive announcement on their new upcoming MMO at gamescom?

Playing now: Cities: Skyline / Ori and the Blind Forest / Banished

I was thinking something similar. Even if they don't announce at Gamescom, they're going to have Sylvari week before Gamescom (pretty sure), so that only leaves Asura week. And only one more profession to reveal, too. That's not much more info to get out to the adoring masses, and they can't just have a six-month dry spell. If we don't get a date at Gamescom or PAX then we will soon at least.

    QFT.

Unless they have some super-secret ingame feature we don't know about yet, the above is what will most likely happen. Given the info (that we know of) they have to release, they can *at most* milk it out in about 3 more installments. Unless they are trying to dissipate the hype they have generated, you can figure that they will need to release something every 1-2months just to hold interest.

Going by that timeline, a beta announcement is most likely 2-6months out.

I'm guessing they will announce that info sooner, rather than later. As some have said, the game looks like it's getting to a fairly finished state (hopefully they have all the endgame content already added, and are doing tweaks).

As for Gamescon, I think we will probably see an announcement of the last profession (Mesmer?), sylvari. They will most likely save details as to beta, Asura week, and preorder / CE info for a few months down the road. They may announce that some of this stuff is coming @ Gamescon, though.

They said they're not announcing their final profession at Gamescom, so it's probably a beta announcement.

The final profession won't be announced at either Gamescom or PAX (verified by Martin Kerstein) and there won't be a beta announcement before the final profession is revealed (my opinion).  My feeling is also that beta and the last profession will be confirmed in the same information release just to add an extra large exclamation point to it, and this will probably happen in September (pure conjecture).  The next big announcement after that will be in October, of a release date in December (bong-induced insight).

Next week will be awesome though.

I don't think they'll have any huge releases of that nature at Gamescon or the PAX event. However, we will get to see how the PvP system will work, which is pretty damn big. They've talked about having FPS-style lobbies for different game-types that you can jump in and out of. I'm sure a lot of people are waiting for more information on that! image

I agree that they wont be giving a release date before the last profession is even anounced..

Since NCSoft and ArenaNet still think a 2011 release may be possible, and since it has been confirmed that the Closed Beta WILL start in Q3/Q4 2011, I think it's safe to say that the game is practically or is about to be finished. If the Closed Beta is about finding bugs then the game needs to have all content and mechanics ready.

The developers also confirmed that the release date depends on the results of the Closed Beta. So at this point, everything (with the exception of Q3 release) is possible.

ArenaNet might hold onto the 8th Prof until literally the game ships as a final boost to the hype of the game... That could be a smart move?!

Not really. Even though Anet said that Open Beta will be rather short because it is seen as a demo instead of an actual beta test by a lot of people, Anet would still be shooting itself in the foot by not using the huge amount of data of said Open Beta to polish the last profession. Both Anet and ourselves have nothing to gain if the game ships with one profession that still has bugs and/or balance issues.

Well, how about we do the reverse and see what is left to announce.

Guilds: Call me foolish, but seeing as the name is Guild Wars 2. I have a feeling that this is going to get atleast a week dedicated to it, saying what is so special about the guild features.

The last profession: Will have a lot of interviews for a week, then a round up of all of the details at the end of the week.

Asura Week: It is bound to happen.

Asura & Sylvari Starting Area: I will bet that the mention this somewhere.

Dungeons:They have only fully spoke about the Ascalon Catacombs. (Although they have mentioned others like Sorrow's Embrace). Are they going to do an indepth article on the others?

Endgame content: I don't think they have mentioned much about this.

Behind the scenes: I think they will have more behind the scenes info as a filler.

Anything Else they can think of:: What ever other fillers they will slide in.

What do you guys think? Did I miss anything?

That's a pretty good assessment. I'm embarassed to say I'd forgotten they hadn't mentioned much about Guilds, lol. I guess I just assumed it would be similar to GW1 in that aspect.

You also forgot to mention PvP (they talked about the system, but haven't really had any indepth reveal as to how that'll work). Also info about beta will be a pretty big announcement.

    - That said, I don't think they will have a big info session on everything you have mentioned. For one, I don't think they will talk too much about dungeons / endgame content. I think they will point out enough to let us know that it's there, and leave the rest up to us to experience (as this will be a huge part of the game). I think they've already done a decent amount of this, showing us a good glimpse of early / mid-game content. Any end-game stuff they show us will be a bonus, but not expected imo.

    Green=Agree.

    Red=Disagree.

I will elaborate on the reds.

    - The Starting Areas will probably coincide with week devoted to the corresponding race.

    - They have already revealed what dungeons are about, besides, we basically know all of the dungeons in the game.

The mansion isn't seen on this map, but it makes sense that all of the squares are dungeons. And by the way, I don't think they want to reveal too much of the dungeons' content to us.

-ArenaNet seems to reject the concept of an endgame so far: they want players to be able to do the same type of content when they reach maximum level. There is however content that's typical to the end of the game: Elite zones such as Orr.

They'll announce beta at gamescom.. it is bound to start mid september or so, maybe early oktober.

They'll announce release at the first following american trade show.

The game will release late November, early December. Just because NC soft needs some big numbers this year in the christmass sales.

And yes the game will be ready for release, you can't keep tweaking a pre release game till eternity, even for Arenanet there is a good enough. And patches will do the rest.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

    Wrong.

The community managers announced that there won't be a beta reveal at PAX or GamesCom.
