I would have liked to remove the mammaries and use them placeholders for various fruits. Players can choose which fruits they want to hang there and the size of them ...
Way better than before! They really look like unnatural beauties. They look exactly or nearly as they are explained in the books, Kristen Perry nailed it.
I can't wait to make my Winter Skin Sylvari. Definitely won't have people confusing me for some Elf. ^^
I wanted my Winter Sylvari to have blue skin and snow flakes and stuff and maybe frozen branches. I hope we can have that!
The blog said winter sylvari will have more like dried bark, dead leaves,ect... i can't think of any plant type thing that turns blue.. plus having snowflakes would be odd when running around the desert areas.. so don't hold your breath on that. I'm sure there will be some Christmas outfit that'll make you happy though.

You should never say something like that, there are so many plants.
I think he means something a little like this color and that would make perfect sense, I hope they add something like that.
Snowflakes is a no no, that should be jewelry because as you said real snowflakes will melt...

You may not be able to make Blue Sylvari but you certain can get close, by making a Summer Sylvari and changing its colour to blueish-green.

Yeah, she really went "out on a limb" but it paid off nicely. ;P
I was interested in the idea of playing a Sylvari but wasn't really sure about the way they looked when they first came out with the race page. Been waiting for ever since they announced the redesign and I gotta say it was worth the wait. Anet really put the time and effect into making them look more than just elves or people with plants on them and really create something. I'm still on the fence with the leafy clothing for my personal tastes but I love the way they designed them to look grown and not just some leaves straped together, like in her clothing design example. I'm sure a lot more customization will come out like she said before the game release and the race will probably be one of the first I put some time into leveling.

"The solution was to create an illusion of anatomy. The figure was not formed from a human with leaves on top of it, but rather a human shape made from grown plant parts. This originates from specific growth sockets. The primary growth socket starts at the small of the back, where a tail might grow. Like many fruits and vegetables, there are two ends: the main stem and the opposing divot (which makes a really good belly button). Graceful leaves sprout from the growth socket, curving around and through the body to simulate the desired musculature. I used stems and broad leaves to articulate the carpal tendons and the flesh of the lower arms. Hosta leaves spiral out at the shoulders in a teardrop shape to form the deltoid “muscles,” while branches spring from the clavicles. Scientific anatomy turned out to be creepy, but garden-variety fantasy anatomy was just what was needed."
This is what makes the sylvari work. This is why the remake was needed, and it pains me to know that those who are not like me and those people who pick up the game later on will not know this.
This is the greatest thing a dev can do, RESEARCH. The sylvari are plants, not people or humans or even animals or have an evoluationary structure that is simlar to anything animal like. Thus the "Illusion of anatomy" is required for the bi-pedal movements. But even how the model is different not just green or textures on top of a human model. How they branch to become "human-like" as well as the lack of a strict bone structure is just beyond belief and my expations for this race.
"The sylvari have a unique freedom in anatomy. If you tried to make a human actor into a sylvari, between makeup and prosthetic appliances, you’d probably have a pretty good result. But under the makeup, the human skeletal structure would remain a barrier. The sylvari are not limited by the planes of a human skull; you can shape the jaw with layered vines, or create the illusion of a face by pressing shards of bark together vertically, and splitting the face in two. The brow can simply be a collection of leaves and it is the patterning alone that defines the eyebrow shape, much like the camouflage of a butterfly. Add to this freedom the myriad plant varieties and there are a vast number of options to explore."
This excites me from a designing stand point. I plan to play a Norn, or maybe a Human, but this has blown my mind of so many levels.
whats so cool is that ANET actually *listened* to player comments about the old sylvari look and decided to overhaul it, even this far into developemnt... that's the kind of company i want to give my money to

Finally! Going to be playing as Sylvari for sure now.
impressive remake, beyond expectations. everything about gw2 is beyond expectations come to think of it.
These new design are stunning. I kinda liked the old ones but these are way way way better.

Hats off to Kristen and the team. I really like the new design.
For some reason, I especially like the eyes. Just wonderful.

But yah...I'm gonna play one of these.
I wasn't planning on playing a Sylvari because of how they looked before. But that has definitely changed now!
Can't wait to see them at Gamescon & PAX

If you're not satisfied with sylvari armor designs, you can also wear other more universal types of armor.

think it would be awesome if they would take root when standing still for a length of time.
My theme song.
I think ArenaNet may have succeeded in creating another of it's own Tyrian races. : )
Very impressed. Those names eg tiger Woods, crack me up, still!

You mean Rasta-safari Sylvari?
This is not a game.
Pretty good. Will they have enough leaf armors though? I wonder how Sylvari will look in other types of armors.
Love it!
I might make a slivari thief afterall. Looking forward to thsi game.
