Looks VERY nice, I hope the ingame versions will look as good as the concepts.

So, I guess it's up to me to play spoilsport again.

I HATE THIS. Shoot... I mean, I love EATING salad... but BEING salad? I mean, yes the first design was kinda bland, but this is way over the top. The character design isn't sooo bad, but this hidious clothing! Why are people MADE of plant wearing clothing of plant? That makes no sense! That's as if I as human would wear human skin as hide armour! *shudder* Plant clothing looks just so... primitive. Like some neanderthal from the forest or what.

Initially I was planning to play Sylvari, and the char doesn't look half bad, but NO WAY I am going to wear a SALAD SKIRT! image

    Nah. Meesa not liken thisen.

lol im sure they will have pants... somewhere. Also, Ive heard they will have cross-racial armour, so ur char can still wear steel. So dont sweat it.

That, my friend, is called plantsteel. And it's tougher than Space marine's power armor.

Why does it have to be so humanoid?  Why?  Even down to the belly button.  Plants sprout they don't need an umbilical cord.  Plants don't suckle, they don't need breasts.

These aren't plant people.  They are mammals that look like plants for whatever reason.

Well... I will hunt for a pair of pants as my first task then. *whimper*

I already hear the other Sylvari mocking me:

"Oh look, Elikal is a pervert... he wants to wear pants, made like humans wear it... can you IMAGINE... gross..."

I wonder what they eat? Salad? Well that would be like cannibalism, no? But I have a hard time to imagine they are carnivores either. Maybe you need to just water them? But do they grow all the time? Do they change over season and sprout flower? Or berries? Hey maybe I can sell my own berries that grow out of my shoulders?? So many questions...

Kinda reminds me of Sylvan race from Dark age of camelot

Take a look at this pic:

    Animist (Sylvan)

Very very similar in regards, heck the name is even similar, Sylvan..Sylvari...gather this was the insperation for this race.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

Got a larger picture? From what little detail I can get out of this one there is little to no visual similarites other than being humanoids.

I changed the proptions so it wouldn't take up too much room in the post, i upped them again so you can see it easier.

I'm noticing, bark, leaf like hair, similar names Just seems like it's an inspiration from that race. Not exactly a copy but i'm thinking they looked at that and went with some changes to makie it their own.

Oh this looks very good. Im glad that they stayed far enough away from some Elf looking kind of race :) Can't wait for the teasing ingame between kitties (charr) and salads :p

Like what would happen if some sylvari is family of catnip :p Could cause some embarrasing moments :)

Not only that, but the word sylvan is an English word. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/sylvan

    syl·van also sil·van  (simagelimagevimagen)

    adj.

    1. Relating to or characteristic of woods or forest regions.

    2. Located in or inhabiting a wood or forest.

    3. Abounding in trees; wooded.

    n.

One that lives in or frequents the woods.

Not bad, not great. Very different though.  Norn or Sylvari.  I had been thinking Sylvari all the way, but meh.  Not as much now.

Don't get me wrong, I think from the design and art standpoint, it's an amazing job.  It really fits with what the story talks about them and how they fit into the world.  But I'm just not impressed that much yet.  Maybe when I see them in action.

nice...quite an interesting race and art

Very cool.  It's nice to see some real genuine character art progression in the mmorpg genre...real nice.  I'm gettnig my hopes up that character customization might mean something more in GW2.  Nice.

  • heartlessheartless Member UncommonPosts: 4,993

I wasn't too thrilled with the original sylvari design as it looked too elf-like to me and I'm not a very huge fan of elves. This new design looks really cool! Now I'm undecided between the Charr or the Sylvari for the first character.

I wanted to play Guild Wars 2 because of the Sylvari, now I admit to being excited to seeing the new changes but I have to say that when it comes to what was shown for the males I am rather disappointed. Hopefully we will see more options this week especially when it comes to their clothing because at the moment I am not impressed by the samples given. I am impressed with the female designs over all and the outfits are also nice, just wish the males looked as nice (not unlike the old males when compared to the old females.)

Because flying a Minmatar ship is like going down a flight of stairs on an office chair while firing an Uzi.

it's not a belly button, its similar to what you find at the bottom of an apple

according to Kristen in the design blog:

Like many fruits and vegetables, there are two ends: the main stem and the opposing divot (which makes a really good belly button).

You are right. The art style confused me a little there, seems they used a lot of the concept art directly in the textures, so I was fooled. Looks good then.

WOW! The art style is beautiful. I like the options of Pretty and Rugged looking toons. Thanks Ms. Perry.
