SV handles everything the wrong way though.

    - They try to gloss over PR nightmares.

    - They take two steps back for every one step forward when it comes to fixing the issues the game has.

    - They unjustifiably ban there own subscribers from there forums to try and cover up any possible sign of negativity.

    - They constantly contradict themselves, and then claim not to have.

The list goes on and on and on and on....

They need to stop concerning themselves with the opinions of Joe Random Guy, and start concerning themselves with the fact that the game they have produced is broken and bug ridden. Get your priorities straight SV.

And yeah he deliverath the gospel!!

Like I said if it were a good game doesn't matter much what some forum posters post.  I never not played a game because I wanted to but then some forum said it was trash..

On many occasions I have contacted the community manager on MMORPG.com, to try and come up with anything to balance out something like this. Often enough I did get a positive response, however the general feeling I got was that so long as members do not breach the rules, no action will be taken.

There have been a lot of things on there that go into very grey territory and a lot of things are purposefully twisted by the members there to sound worse than they actually are and any positives downplayed to seem trivial. So naturally that website will be extremely controversial towards Mortal Online, and the only way to change that is to have a larger portion of the community participate over there in a constructive fashion.

If you have an account over there; or are an MMORPG.com community member, I would like to ask you to participate in the Mortal Online section, as it does need help from people who are not as biased. Be Constructive, Be polite.

    Exactly.

I have never chosen to not play a game specifically because of the opinion of some random person on an internet forum. It has not and will not ever happen, I simply don't look at things in that way.

I always let the product speak for itself, even if it means I spend a few bucks and end up disliking the game. That has always been par for the course with video games ever since I began playing them in the mid-late 80s, sometimes you end up with a purchase you consider to be money well spent because the game is as good as advertised, sometimes you don't.

I doubt anyone I know would be swayed from making a purchase, or vice versa, all because of what someone claimed or stated on an online forum or bulletin board. It just doesn't seem logical to me, because as human beings we all have differing opinions of what we consider to be "good", so the safe bet to me is always to try it yourself and form your own judgment afterwards.

It's a common problem with meta-gaming sites.  Such things happen regularly, not just in this forum, but in almost all of them.

Yet, I don't see you debating or discussing these topics.  Youd rather post random MO info that really doesnt lend to any discussion.

Too bad SV cant put this much effort into the actual game vs trying to make the game appear better.

ohoh.... rally to the defense..... heed the cry!

Allright, time to use some of that good old text mud, old school MMO experience.

    Charge opening post (slightly modified).

You bellow out thy challenges to the cravenly opening post.

    > You are attacked by opening post.

    Opening post misses you.

You slam opening post with your Holy Sceptre for 18 HPs damage.

You shout a deafening warcry as you begin thine charge.

    Opening post misses you.

You flatten opening post with your Holy Sceptre for 25 HPs damage.

You crash into opening post with a magnificent crunch of arguments and text!

You bring thy weapon down and decimate the heathen opening post!

You dealt the death blow to opening post.

    Opening post dies.

    Thyne opposition has vanished.

Ah, there is nothing that a good old text MMO PVP charge cant fix! Oh, what were we defending by the way?

whilst that is true opal, i beleive as the game progresses more content through territory control, more skills, more social systems, more dungeons and ai fixes and you will slowly see the negativity reduced from those forums, mainly because without negative postys on these forums there is nothing to feed the trolls over on mmorpg.com

Rather sad that anyone would think that the mmorpg.com forums are the center of the mmo world , sure plenty of news and general stuff going on this site, And mmorpg.com is working hard to expand but realy.. 1,368,444   members as i write this, thats a tiny tiny minor fraction of all mmo players out and about and a fair chunk of those members are sleepers, they come here once a month/year or become members for a single beta action and are gone again.

My advice, stop looking outsite your own forums and only watch the reviews and work to get those ratings better (thus having to make a better game) that and regulair news updates across all gaming sites is all you need to create the intrest in a game but then you need to work on the game and create those news updates ofc.

Starvault has recently signed with a German game broker and I doubt their primary concern is the players.  This forum has brought many of Starvaults questionable actions to light, which Im sure they'd rather keep hidden.

Although I laughed at first, that certainly isnt such a bad idea. If you open a topic, I would be glad to participate in our request.

I think such a request would have to come from one of the "core" community members over there.  We have a few of those who participate in our discussions here.  Perhaps one of them might step up and create such a thread.  I mean, after all what better way to disprove all the "grey territory" and the stuff "purposely twisted" then to have him come here (openly) and set the record straight?  I think having more members of the MO community participate here is a GREAT thing, but I think if you are going to ask your players to come and defend your game (and company) that you should have the stones to come here (openly) and do so yourself as well.

Agree, other games have senior staff members or developers or even community managers that visit us from time to time.  If your game is operating under a difficult umbrella then it would certainly help to smooth things over.

MOST IMPORTANT THING FROM THIS :   This site is important enough to warrant such concern.  We matter.  What we say influences the genre in some way.  I'm amazed that our sphere of influence has grown so much, and also proud.  I can get heated at people here, and say mean things from time to time.  Stuff like this makes me proud to be here though, and glad I have you all to make this community as powerful as it, apparently, is.

On one hand I sympathize because this website is filled with haters, on the other hand I hate it when companies try to astroturf their games on third-party websites.

We aren't full of haters.  They just also exist here.  Also, its not astroturfing, really.  They feel some things are not being portrayed accurately.  They simply want to be better served here, and they ask happy players to do so for them.  Not a horrid request.  Larger titles wouldn't even care really.  Truth be told, though, our take on most games has been pretty good.  I mean..nearly all the AAA titles that have come out in the last 5 years have gone F2P, and we've had some hard things to say about them here as well.  Its not too much to assume that our critique of them was, at least, pretty accurate.

This is the worst idea I eva heard.

Honestly the best way to combat issues like this is just not do anything about it, take care of problems on your own forums and make the game better.  Hiring cheerleaders is going to make things 10 times worse when they come here and get into pointless arguments.

If they really wanted to do something for the game,  they should likely ask those that would come here to post less on forums and help new players in-game get situated.  Breed a community from inside the game, not force some kind of charade of popularity on a separate MMO site where most of the time, the arguments will just drive people away more.

    Viral marketing?

What is the worst that would happen? All 10 fans come rushing over to MMORPG to proclaim how awesome MO is? Then those of us who know better would swarm them like bees to honey.

The game is a joke. It can't be defended. In fact, the one MO fan in this thread has totally ignored the game and just attacked the posters. Clearly, the game itself is not even worth discussing.

True enough, but I remember when MO first came out. It was like Mortal Combat around here.

No doubt.  It was a game that didn't release well.  Also, its a semi-sandbox with a heavy handed PvP element.  You are gonna have whole legions of hate from the PvP side of it alone.  Its all about understand the broader scope of what is happening.  Its easy to get caught up in the immediate scenery.  Thats a very natural and human flaw we all deal with, every last one of us.  Easy to see the tree, hard to see the forest and all that.  There's a lot of hate trees in the forest.  Still just a small part of the big woods, though.
