Thought I'd waste 3Gb in a download and get this game. Waste being the operative word. What a woeful excuse for a video game. Needs about a year of work.

The game is alot more polished now than say 3 months ago.

     - The combat is fluid

     - The spells work and are different than most games

     - combat skills work and u get more every 25 skill levels in your weapon skills and tactics

     - 400 stats cap 700 skill cap

Some things are not implemented yet such as

     - taming isn't in the game

     - thieving isn't in the game

     - giving permissions for houses and ships you build is not working  so you are the only one that can open the door to your house or sail your ship

     - PvP is isn't open on all the islands it should be yet

     - and i know there r a few more minor ones i cant think of.

1 bug i know is that when i open a door it shuts right away so u have to be running against it to get through the doorway. I have always been able to get through every door though.

If u guys have any questions i might be able ot answer i have played it a little off and on the last few weeks

Do you like lollipops? Suck it. Don't bite you greedy twit.

I think the reason Dawntide is ignored is because of Mortal Online.  I wasted a lot of time following that game.  Until a major gaming media source covers Dawntide then I refuse to pay any attention to it.  2 years of paid beta is not a feasible business strategy to make an MMO, or most products for that matter.

Nevermind the fact that the devs use a torrent system to patch that is flagged by most Anti-Virus programs as a virus.  Making it difficult for the average person to even download the game, let alone play it.  They posted about looking into ways to change it a month ago.  Instead they only post why the anti virus flags it.  Not very smart for attracting a player base imo.

So there's a bunch of cleanly-shaven knights and a fire-breathing dragon on the site index. Do we really get to fight giant monsters in this game or is it simply decorative?

I basically ran though all the full loot sandbox games, every time i keep comming back to darkfall as that game is litteraly 10 years ahead of those other games (granted sandbox development seems to take triple the time as a themepark).

Sadly, if your looking for sandbox pve and full loot pvp darkfall is by far the best out there, despite its downfalls ( untill darkfall 2.0 there still is about 8 months of pve grind needed) that game is relativly bug free and stable compared to its counterparts.

Right now a huge part of the community is hiding out waiting for 2.0 though...good time to start and get through the learning curve with out bands of nook gankers partolling every 5min.

Or you could play the only well made, contemporary sandbox out there right now, EVE.

Except EVE isn't legitimately "full loot" and it doesn't have a remotely satisfying combat system for a lot of MMO players. EVE is about as much "sandbox" as The Sims. We're talking about a totally different type of game here.

I've been in the beta for awhile but have to force myself to log on because the combat is terrible (last time I logged on) and the entire feel of the game is very clunky. I do hope it turns out well though, I like the list of features.

quite a while ago in closed beta I was just roaming around after my toons magical grind climbing alitte island mountain and found at the top that it was a vulcano (tho no lava) and insite it was a GIANT creature, and when i say giant I mean it, its left foot was six time my toon size.

it was a bit cheapish since it was a fairly regulair mob buffed up and resized but compleetly unique, I killed it and it never was seen again. note that mobs could get easely stuck back then so all i had to do was trow my magic against it from a save distance. dont think that would work anymore since the last time I logged in the mobs dint get stuck anymore and will either catch up and kill you or are slain by the guards of the npc town as you run into town trying to save your own skin.

that said, the game potentional s huge, but as we all know there were and ar lots of potentional huge games that never made or never will make it. dawntide is one clunky choppy buggy ride and instead of high polish focus (fixing the chunky choppy buggy ride) they seem to focus on everyting else but that. being away for a long time and retesting it, i find some tings fixed but the entire starting area is empy..no players (the few left are probaly on the islands) the redesign of the starting area actualy makes it harder for new players to get into the game.

I might retry the game again in some weeks whit a compleetly fresh character but doubt that will realy help alot , hope for them that they can manage to keep the "open beta" running for a long time and realy start to focus a little on polish and leave game ballance as it is even if some tings might not work as intended yet ,the most importand part is first impression as soon as a player enter the world that spellxxx or skill xx is over or underpowered can always be nerfed/fixed players tend to work around that just fine. what they cant stand is contand "loading" time as they run around and being chased by mobs only to be killed due to thier game freezing every xx meter of running and the mobs not being hindered by this catch up and knock you out.

Cant really compare a game like eve, which is more a strategy sandbox to darkfall wich is a FPS/RPG sandbox.

Two completely diffrent beasts in almost every aspect.

As for playing EvE...i get why people like it...just didnt really like anything about it other than its complexity.  Felt like a sit back and watch strategy game to me...not that theres anything wrong with that...also the community loved to talk about how smart they were in real life....which i found as a strange way to flex e-peen...

But back on topic...its either a a good thing or a bad thing to have the sandbox market flooded with "alpha stage as launch" games...it means people are trying, but also, as per dawntides case, people have grown sick to death with a game thats more a promise than something fun to play.

Dawntide seems to have taken the "crafting sandbox" and (granted i may be incorrectly informed here) the game revolves around crafting, where as a game like DF revolves around combat pve/pvp...id place MO as an imbetween of a crafting/pvp game with little pve combat involved..  I just think DF has the best blend for me, theres crafting/resourcing but its not the focal point, killing mobs (and they have a solid variety of them) and people seem to be the main focal points, and it does them both quite well.  As much as i want to try dawntide out, im not interested with crafting only.

That was my experience as well. With dozens of MMOs to try, both in beta nd released, people rarely tend to return to an MMO a second time during the pre-release stage.

I think it was about a year ago that DT had its ads and beta keys out, but since it wasn't really much of anything at the time, it seems most people never went back or even gave it a second thought. They blew their wad way too early.
