You know what I'm happy about, people are starting to question and dig for information about a game instead of simply lapping up whatever game company says like little lost puppies. It's another reason ToR is sinking in hype and popularity already, all you need to do is watch and read objectively and like magic you'll understand that this is a dry, small, linear, single player game with a monthly fee. End of subject.
As far as what went wrong, in a nutshell, nothing. Bioware realized they cooked up a bomb and instead of taking the company down and giving Bioware a bad reputation, swindled EA into buying them. (never know, business is business after all) Expect them to go their separate ways not long after this game is released.
Man somthing is tottally wrong with this game! 3 million pre orders WTF was bioware thinking making a game that 3 million people want to play, soooo stupid they are.
Its alright , SWTOR is going to be extremely sucessful regardless of the WoW players hate threads. Its apparent to any SWTOR follower that all this information is false and bland.
Initially the game was supposed to stay away from the holy Tank-Healer-DPSer trinity.
Then Combat was supposed to feel epic... to end with Wow like Boss kiting.
LS and force powers are now being used in Hutt Ball games.
All classes in solo mode are pet classes.
Space combat is a point and click minigame.
Heroic crafting ends as having NPCs do it for us.
On paper SWTOR has less features than games years older.
Not even KOTOR core features at launch: Pazaak and Swoop racing.
Story lines doesn't look that epic and it seems doesn't really have an impact on the outcome, but maybe a few times.
Replayability seems to be there only if you switch factions.
Some gear looks like coming directly from Wow: mage/warlock robes, epic shoulderpads.
Character heroic proportions look silly.
Game looks on rails or at least very directed
And that is with a budget even bigger than Tabula Rasa one.
So... what went wrong?
I just want to ask. You say all this and so much more(in other threads, everything is negative there also). Yet you then say this:

Isn't that contradictory? Why would you dish out money to support something that in your opinion has done nothing right. I mean its main selling point is story, yet you even think they did that wrong. Is it just so you can buy it, then go to every forum possible to cry and complain how it was as bad as you said? I'm confused.
It's like me hating black and white movies, but paying to go see a black and white movie and complaining afterwards.

From the day it was announced it was pretty clear what it was going to be like roughly. Apart from space combat, which i honestly don't mind, nothing has been a real shocker. Its all panned out exactly the way i thought it would. Its no good creating the game in your head and comparing it to what they actually make, you'll only end up disappointed.
What went wrong? Nothing.
Also half the stuff you said is complete BS. Starting to think people are looking up KOTOR gameplay rather than TOR gameplay.
Actually I believe the OP is stuck in 2008. He seems to have missed all the info over the last 3 years. And also, players are testing and devs are listening to them as well as their statistics. I think it is called developing a game?
Its easy to ignore reality and what has actually been posted time and time again in these threads when you have already made up your mind back in 2008.
And nobody promised you the things you mentioned. It seems you just hyped up something and went over your head, now you're dissapointed when everything didn't go the way you hoped.
Also i stopped reading when you mentioned WoW. This isn't WoW this is SWTOR.
Man somthing is tottally wrong with this game! 3 million pre orders WTF was bioware thinking making a game that 3 million people want to play, soooo stupid they are.
lol exactly, the whole premise of the thread is ridiculous. Their pre-orders sold out in a ridiculous amount of time, ranked well ahead of total preorders sold in x amount of time including most single player games, and the lines just to play the game at all of the events overwhelmed most of the other games presenting. In addition, post a message on the first page of the official forums and watch it drop to the 2nd page in seconds. Sounds like a game that is going in the wrong direction to me lol "/sarcasm off"
Its alright , SWTOR is going to be extremely sucessful regardless of the WoW players hate threads. Its apparent to any SWTOR follower that all this information is false and bland.
i dont think the hate is coming from the wow players, as this is a game thats clearly aimed directly at them.. you could almost say, if you hate wow, you'll hate sw'tor.. and will probably make the game quite successful just based on that fact alone..
We'll see soon enough what went wrong, if anything went wrong. With beta testing still going its very much possible they'll change things so it might be a bit too soon to worry right now.

There's several things I'm not particularly thrilled about in SWTOR but I really don't have the impression that they've radically changed their plans over the years, they seem to be delivering pretty much exactly what the promised.

It's not small, it's quite a large RPG, at least 200 hours worth of game time per faction is not a small game.
Waiting for Guild Wars 2, and maybe SWTOR until that time...

Sorry to disappoint you but everything stated in the OP is based upon facts: from the desire of BioWare to break from the holy trinity through the supposedly epic space sim down to the heroic crafting.
I've been following TOR even before the forums went live in oct 2008. Just peek at what I wrote about the game 3 months after the forums launched when we knew quite nothing about TOR mechanics. While not exactly what we end with you'd have to admit it was a quite close guess.
I barely have the time in my life to even type this. With that said. I'm curious where people find the time to cry so much about every little thing in every game. Not to mention games that arent even live yet and deffinately havent had the chance to mature. If your not having fun then don't do it, I think thats what its all about.

So having the tank/dps/healer spec was required? GW2 would love to aruge you to death on this.

Lol because you can make an MMO without tanks healers and dps? Open your eyes for a second every MMO will have these. Even EvE online has healers [ shield and armor reps ] Tanks [ active/passive tank] and obviously dmg. Every MMO has thier own take on the trinity, SWTOR has an awesome class system and each class has a ton of options for customization so im Ok with it, if you guys are going to look that far into things and cry about it then so be it. Hate to break it to the GW2 fanboys but they have healers dps and tanks too.

Guild Wars 2 still follows the trinity loosely.
You will need players to switch to healing to heal other players. You will have players filling the roles of tanking and obvious most people will be DPS.
If you have followed Guild Wars 2 closely, you have seen examples of it in videos.
Granted their does seem to be more freedom. With players having the ability to switch between the roles more freely.
Should title it, "Haters following TOR from 2008 to now: Why haven't they moved on?"
Seriously, if you follow any game for 3 years your going to find things that change. I am far too lazy at this point in time to look it all up, but I've been following it since Oct 2008, and some of what you said sounded a bit off (I don't remember them promising anything world altering about space combat) and some of what you stated is just your assumption of how it is/will be. I'd say wait until launch and see, but there is no point. If you've wasted 3 yrs hating on a game you don't seem to like, its not likely you'll walk away now.

My brand new bloggity blog.
Some players expected that they were being given a game to "their" specifications and not what the Devs wanted to make.

But i don't think Bioware had it's soul all drained away yet, they still got it.
