What do you mean by lag? Network latency or frames per second? If you mean network latency, variety of armours has absolutely no effect on it. If you mean the second one, tbh it has no effects as well, because you need to draw all these armors, except they are red or blue. Changing the color doesn't give any performance hits

What do you mean? All players choose their own colors now, how would colors choosed by the game take more or less resources than the ones the players set?

I think it is a great idea. :)

I think the color identification of friend or foe is a grand idea. I am all for it.

The PvP we have seen from Gamescom is to me like a Sport. And when you play a sport, you usually have the same uniforms. Like in Football or Hockey. Its a way to show that they are playing in one team, and its easy to tell one from another.

The WvWvW PvP I guess wont have that same system, unless they want you to see which ones from your server. Anyways, this aint a problem for me. I dont look at my character when I PvP, I look for the enemies to kill.

If you wanna look good when killing players, play one of the many MMO's out there.

Actually, yes. PvP in GW2 is an E-sport just like PvP in startcrqaft or Counter strike. ANET have always been found of that type of PvP and held a lot of competitions in GW.

There are many other games that have the opposite PvP, were you can spend hours griefing people.

Most MMOs are in between those extremes.

But full coloring is not a must, a cloak in a certain color would work as well, even though I personally like this idea. Let each of the three world either get a pre selected coloring or a random color each week. If your fashion sense forbids you there is always the option of changing server, that is free in GW2.

I don't think the collors will make such a huge performace difference, but they will make for recognising foes and ennemies...  I think Classarmor setting and server collor setting could be 2 different options in the menu....  (same as i am hoping they have a PvE setting that makes you switch you armor collors temporarilly to your guildcolors....  without loosing offcourse your personal preferences...

And for the armor looks, you could even have an option that makes the 8 or 10 (slider) closest people in WvWvW show their personal armor...

Off topic: So you can change server for free in GW2? Thats new to me.

they are 99% sure theyll make server transfer free...pls dont let that 1% rule:P

i like the teamcolours at smaller pvp zones becuz in GW2 it aint as easy to see enemy/friend as in other games, at WvWvW theyll probably use ur normal armour colour.

/hopes theyll yust use the free server transfer..

    Yes...

But i think there is a restriction for servers currently locked in WvWvW...... They want you to be able to play with your friends from all over the world... Have colleaugues that play too, just join them for an evening of fun on their server...

Tough my only worries is this will not really add to the fact of server pride being very important for WvWvW

Thats what I thought aswell. I guess that after a WvWvW people will join the winning server. And at the next WvWvW that server might even be more powerfull.

But then theres is another thing, how about names? If they want you to be able to play with friends on other server for an evening  or so, what if the name u got already is taken on that server. And when you return, maybe ur name is already taken there aswell.. Will names be reversed on the "old" server for a period so you can return. And during your visit on another server, you get a temporary name... Hmm...

Anyways, this was Off Topic, so wont keep this up longer. ^^

    This should answer your question:

Are character names globally unique or per-world?

Justin: I think it's globally unique because we have people to reserve names from Guild Wars.

Colin: Yeah, it's gotta be global.

Since people are able to reserve names from Guild Wars, it makes sense that the naming conventions will be the same.

    This is for GW1:

    America and Europe

Names must comply with these rules:

    • Does not exceed the maximum character limit (maximum 19 characters).

    • Must use a minimum of 3 characters (a space counts as one).

    • Must use two or more words (implies at least one space).

    • Must use only Latin letters (digits are not allowed).

I have a couple characters where the name is four words, so you can use multiple spaces. So, you can have a first name, middle name(s), multi part sur name, etc... e.g. you could have a character named "Lilly Mae Van Sorin". So, there is plenty of name space for people to have unique names across the entire playerbase.

With all those complicated names flying around, it's probably a good thing that they simplify enemy recognition in competitive PvP with the auto-dye system. (Had to bring the reply back on topic)!
