I don't get it.  Does the original poster expect these summer blockbuster comic films to rival Seabuscuit or something?  Some comic book movies are better than others, but in the end, they all do what they're supposed to and that's provide the summer movie going audience with some mindless fun for an hour and a half or so.  I saw nearly every one this summer and I'd rank em somewhere like this:

    X-Men: First Class

    Captain America

    Thor

    Green Lantern

I really enjoyed them all though.

I wouldn't say the comic book films are trying to rival the success of the Dark Knight quite the same way many MMORPGs attempt to cash in off of WoW.  Captain America and Nolan's Batman franchise are really apples and oranges.  One is a deeply philosophical, thought provoking film that just happens to involve Batman and the other is a mindless action movie where the entire premise of the film is that it's Captain America.

Not a fan of comic books so their movies are completely lost on me. I can't stand them.

i'm not sick of comic book movies but i am VERY sick of BAD comic book movies. there has been plenty of really good comic book movies and a few that most people didn't even know was based on comic books.

my favorite comic book movies was Constantine,Kick-Ass,The Crow,Blade trilogy, and Scott Pilgrim vs The World.

tho i will agree with the main stream comic book movies sucking badly, like the Spiderman trilogy, majority of the Batman movies, most of the X-men (x2 was the only decent one, Wolverine movie being the worst comic movie ever made),Thor sucked pretty bad,1/2 the Superman movies,Green Lantern was ok. the main stream ones they try to dumb everything down.

looking farward to the Deadpool movie but REALLy affraid they'll fuck it up and try to make it for 5 year olds. when the Deadpool comics are very violent and bloody, cusses alot too,but extremely funny at the same time lol

If the movies are well done, then I have nothing against them. It feels like they're being rushed out, a scramble over who can get which comic movie adaptation first.

Reynolds has already been 3 different comic book characters, Hannibal King in Blade 3,Deadpool in the HORRIBLE Wolverine movie, and Hal Jordan in The Green Lantern. and going to be Deadpool again in a new Deadpool movie they're making.

Meh.  The only superhero I will ever need is the batmans, so as long as he continues to kick ass on an immeasurable scale - I'm good.  The trend of sub-par superhero movies coming out every other month is annoying, but not overly worrying or disturbing to me.

And then i hit up google and see we have one slated for 2014 with Ryan Reynolds (Green Lantern) of all people listed as playing Wade/Deadpool, how wrong is that?

He's already played Deadpool BEFORE he did the Lantern movie, ever seen that wolverine movie he was in? yeah that main villain at the end Wolverine and sabretooth fought was suppose to be Deadpool..... Wolverine even called him by his real name in the movie Wade Wilson..

Reynolds IMo is perfect for Deadpool a kind of comedic bad ass.

Its not comic book movies im sick of its the idiots making them that ruin them for me and everyone else. really whats so wrong with sticking to the origional material that made them famous in the first place.

I really would rather some one make them for tv and keep all that was good and great about the comics and use themj that way then movies.

That way u can do wht smallville did so well and do the big baddie for the year and weekly baddies,. Especially with some of the lesser heroes.

I love bad movies, comic book or otherwise. A $2 purchase at a local video store, some refreshment of the alcoholic variety, and 2 hours with your buddies laughing and wondering how the fuck anyone thought that this movie was a good idea.

Phase IV. Watch it, and thank me later. Don't forget to try to the spanish dubbing.

We get a few cool things (Super) and some awesome thrill rides from the AGR /FX guys. But originality or faithful storytelling? Not so much.

More than sick of it, despite the third Spiderman movie all were crap and don't get me even started on the dark knight. According to the comics two face has been a real badass but the movie showed him a s a siderole while heavily focusing on The Joker.

Only comic book movies I really loved were the old Superman movies but other than that most are utter trash, Hollywood just doesn't get it.

We need a MMORPG Cataclysm asap, finish the dark age of MMORPGS now!

well ya see!! when i was a kid comic books where the in thing. and i had stacks and stacks and stacks and stacks of them.. also i had a few limited edition hard back comic books too.

now ya see comic books are the thing of imagination and thats the one thing that the youth of today are lacking. its also one of the reasons why todays games are also lacking in imagination too.. we have all seen the clones of clones and clones of clones.. havnt we..

comic books are the thing of fresh idea's and whackey imaginations.

so yes i very much enjoy comic book films its like traveling back in time.

take the spider man films.. utterly brilliant all the villains are there from the comic books too. its like being a kid again.  all the super man films. the flash..

in my oppinion the comic book films are amongst the best ever made.

then you have the historical films. the war films and such the ones that tell us who we are and where we came from.. the ancient history films roman films medieval films.. are at the top of my list.

then you have the fantasy story films such as lord of the rings, tron, jack and the bean stalk, tom thumb, jason and the arganaugts, sinbad, land of the giants, gullivers travels.

hostorical filming is the best way for people to get some idea of what we all used to be and do. sure they are mostly fictional and inacurate.. but the theme and setting is as well as we know of such times.

every one should be interested in history. its what makes us who we are today.

but yea absolutely love comic book films! :))

thor was ok.. it should have been longer though,. they could of added much much more of the mythology into it.. but then again. how many kids today actually know who thor is or what he is or was.  or better still seen to be!  the answer is very few.

they could have gone alot deeper into the whole asgard story and odin story. they could have explained more of middenheim  or how ever thats spealy. they could have gone into more detail with the frost giants.

hell the movie could have been on the scale of lord of the rings. diffrent is thor has real life applications where as llord of the rings was just a story devised in the threnches of the war!

Frankly I am getting tired of the genre and the fomula type movies produced.  At $10 a movie I am more discriminating of what I go see these days.

lord of the rings was put into 3 very long films and even that seemed rushed.

well there isnt much you can cram into 90 minutes.. so they will always seem rushed.. i think film makers should start thinking about adding more story to there films like they did with lord of the rings. some of these comic book films can go much much deeper than lord of the rings had gone. thor would be one of them.. there is a whole iniverse of lore there!

i think one of the saddest movies ive seen in a long time was troy.. while i enjoyed the film i cant help but think the prodcers where attempting to make an historical figure into a comic book figure. troy was good, it just seemed to lack the seriousness it should have had.

i would by a film in 3 parts or 4 if it told the fuller story.. isnt that why we watch films anyway.. for the story and theatricals behind them. ive been left dissapointed at many films and purely because they finish too soon.. the green latern was one such film, it was like a really fast paced race to the grand finale.. one minute hes no one special next minute hes a super hero and he saves the planet.. super mans first film  wasnt even that dramatic. and that guy is an alien with powers. not the traditional mutated human hero we get from comic books.

and the coolest super hero has to be batman.. no special powers. just gadgets and guts. and a lot of camera trickery. i prefer the old series  KAPOOOW!!!! WALLOPP!! CRASH!!  BAAAANG!!!  OH and why doesnt any of the batman films have the orriginal theme music.

da nanan nan ananan nanan BATMAN!! swinging on a lastic band, fell into a snotty pan, along came spiderman, thought he was a bogeyman and ate him!! (lol summet we used to sing as kids :)))

The movie business is reaching a dead end when it comes to new ideas for movies..

Its rare you see a movie these days with a fresh new take. This is why they are making movies about every single superhero, and not only that, they making multiple movies of the same superhero over and over and over. How many Batmans will there be now? like 7? The only good one IMO was the original with Micheal Keaton and Jack Nicholson(although Ledger made a way better joker).Superman also, there's a new one on the horizon coming out.

Also, theyre making even more  retreads and rehashes of movies from the past..Conan anyone? did you know theyre making a new Dirty Dancing? I cant wait for the remake of Never Ending Story in 3d! *rolls eyes*

The movie business is garbage these days, they dont have anything up their sleeves,so they make sequels and rehashes, then slap a 3d label on it and ship it out knowing suckers will go watch it for 10 bucks a head..

Nope not at all . In fact its great to see characters I grew up with coming to life at last . I even liked the Thor movie and Thor was one of my least favourite characters growing up . Comics are and have always been innovative and they are a gold mine for the cinema and as such superhero movies wont be going anywhere because they are so popular ( generally speaking ) .The Avengers is bound to top the box office next summer inspite of it being directed by Joss Whedon ( I doubt even he will be able to mess this one up and if he does he'll be totally finnished ) . I don't know what Green Lanturns like I always found the character unipiring so I'm waiting for the dvd .But theres plenty of charcters I would like to see in films . The Flash and Submariner spring to mind as do the Teen Titans and Defenders . There has to be someone somewhere thinking about a JLA movie now . One thing I'm pretty certain of is that we will see all the major players given the celluloid treatment in the coming years .

I am disapointed with every holywood movie in general, haven't seen a good one in couple years.

The last one I really enjoyed I think it was Inglorious Bastards, comic book movies not a single one of them with Christopher Nolan ones being the exception(altho I hate that smug bastard).

And ironically the best superhero movie in my opinion is Unbreakable (2000)

Overall I dont think holywood as produced any really good movie for a long time.

Heck, just looking at the 90 decade quality of movies and what we have now makes me wanna cry.

LA Confidencial, Shawshank, Pulp Fiction, Fight Club, Leon.

meh, they just don't make them like they used to

So.  You're complaining about something that never happened (Jack Black) and a movie that hasn't even come out yet (Spider Man reboot).  ...  Right.  Now I'm confused.  It sounds like the tantrum of someone with too much time on their hands.  (Not that you don't make good points, I completely agree with what you said, but let's get real - you're bitching about something that never took place and something that hasn't happened yet.  Get over yourself.)

  • DiospyrosDiospyros Member Posts: 15

I do have a lot of the same concerns about the new Spider Man that you do.  But, as someone old enough to remember the first Batman movie when it came out, I definitely recall everyone saying "Michael Keaton as Batman, what a horrible idea!".  Yet I think he is the best Batman of all time, so I'll at least give this new guy a chance.  I should clarify that I think Dark Knight is the best Batman movie, I just think Christian Bale is nowhere near as good of an actor as Michael Keaton.
