I've been following TSW since it was announced but I will not be taking part in a popularity contest (or promote their game for them) to get into a beta. I'll recommend a game to others only after I have a chance to play it and determine if it's something I would want to support in that way.

Hmm. I had reserved feelings, but the demo at gamescom swayed me from reserved to hopeful. The skill tree looks excellent, graphics are not bad, storylines are interesting - it's certainly of a different mold than other mmos out there.

I just love how Funcom has a "track record of terrible launches". I mean, it's true from one perspective, but from another perspective they have only made 2 games, so it's not exactly statistically significant :)

I'm not into the whole facebook game thing myself, but I might go for it if it looks interesting enough. It's not exactly a new marketing ploy though!

Ahh, a big beta eh?  Maybe this isn't the game for me.  I don't want to start playing a new mmo where everyone already knows everything.  Where the best mobs are, where to get the best gear, how to navigate the world, what skills are the most powerful.

So much for new and exciting.  If they let lots of people beta this, it is going to be old and dull before it even hits the shelves.

Sad too, I am really looking forward to this game, but not looking forward to being called a noob on the first day because I didnt pick the game apart in beta.

    Sucks.

I certainly hope they either have all the major bugs ironed out as of right now or they reserve the crucial beta spots for those people who scrupulously check the test forum for known issues and any dev instructions or requests, then enter the game with a sharp eye out for unreported bugs.  Those are the people who turn betas into polished, ready for release games.  Not social butterflies with globe-spanning Facebook networks.

Other than that, I have no concerns over the condition of this game at release.  I predict Funcom will do it right this time and that this will go on record as the redemption release, with a polish worthy of Rift and with far more interesting content.

We shall see in a few months if my crystal ball is in working order on this one or not.

I wont spoil this for myself and will only play it year after release when it's actually playable (this being Funcom mmo, it'll take them year after release to get the game playable)

As much as I am looking forward to TSW and am keeping an open mind about the game, I would sooner allow my nether regions to be sand blasted and my eyelids pulled back over my skull  than ever allow my pc to be tainted by the steaming pile of excreta that is facebook.

This just in every game has people who play beta and know a lot already. And this is NOT actually going to be playing the real game yet. You should have read everything before replying!

    - I have played Everquest, DAOC, Shadowbane, WoW, Aion, Rift, SW Galaxies, Planetside and Guild Wars (all expacs)

Great writing but.. right.. ye.. ok.. its Funcom.

Remember Funcom? The Age of Conan schemes and lying to the playerbase promisising stuff that was not in the game etc etc..

My advice is simple.. wait 2 years after the game is released before spending $1 on it.

Aion, AoC, AC, AO, DDO, Eve, Eq2, GW, MW3, L1&2, RF, RIFT, SWG, SWTOR, TR, UO, WOW, WAR

REALLY looking forward to this game, but no, i will NOT do facebook. i'm not 12 or a 30 year old house wife.

tho as long as this beta is suppose to last i'd rather wait till launch to play. i don't wanna play the beta for months and months and then to have to reroll and do everything over again after it launches.

This is from Tarib, the senior CM at Funcom:

Those who already have a guaranteed spot in the beta, will get that access granted at an appropriate part of the beta process.

This is the email I got last month when I was falsely told that beta had been going on for months:

    Greetings!

Thank you for contacting Funcom Customer Support!

    Regarding your email,

Sorry for the difficulties, I'm afraid that the TSW beta is still not

open to the public. As soon as the beta is open to the public, you will

be one of the first players to receive a key to play!

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank you for the email, and we hope you are able to enjoy your day

    despite the circumstances.

According to Tarib, I will NOT be one of the first.

It seems quite clear to me actually: Those who participated in the big hush hush with sanctuary of secrets all the way back in 2009 would have bigger priority of earliest access, then those who first took faction tests would come into play, then those selected by the beekeeper would come into play, then those who participated in aoc campaign would come into play, then everyone.

I can't fault a company for using Facebook to promote its products, that's where the big cash is in the gaming world whether I like it or not.  But damn I refuse to sign up for any type of social media that is dominated by middled aged hausfrau.

As for AoC being the worst beta someone up thread had ever participated in, well I'd like to point them to the Anarchy Online beta heh.   That being said I'll definitely be checking this game out at relelase.

Well....of all the things to worry about, the 'launch' would be the last one.  People hate EA for alot of things - but they do good launches.  Now - whether the game being launched is any good - that's another thing :D

I am really disappointed about them incorporating Facebook into the game mechanics.  I hate anything that has to do with Facebook and to date refuse to open an account.  I really wish some mega uber f-up happens to millions of people willing to share their personal information with the world plagued with hackers and identity thieves so the whole virtual house of card collapses for good.

On a positive note, I can't wait for this game to come out.  Thanks to Funcom I enjoyed many years of Anarchy Online and still have deeply rooted images of that magical world in my aging mind, and I miss that world of Rubi-Ka greatly.  I'll play this game as soon as it comes out.

I already Orderd Star Wars the Old Republic, but been paying attention to this game also. I like all these Myths and legends ect.. Another one im waiting for is Defiance. But now im going more towards The Secret World. Played Age of Conan with a lvl 80 character. This looks to be high Hopes for FUNCOM and Im proud of them. Cant wait to get into the beta and im sure I will get this game for the long run. I am tired of playing childish games and this by far is in par with what I like. Thanks FUNCOM. I also enjoyed AOC since Launch. 12hrs until beta access sign up good luck all.

The truth is out there SOMEWHERE ?

    Yeah looking forward to this.

    Should be good

  • GruntyGrunty Member EpicPosts: 8,657

Yeah, but are those who signed up for the secret war two years ago still in the beta pool? Or do we need to register again?

Can't say I really care to beta test this.  I'm interested... sort of with the game but compared to my interest in SWTOR or GW2 this game really pales.  Not because it's not good but because this "everything is real" concept doesn't do it for me "yet".  My interest could swing.

  • PocahinhaPocahinha Member UncommonPosts: 550

Funcom will do it once again...

But its not their fault...its the people that buy their unfinished bad products, and believe the lies...

They wont get nothing but the middle finger from me.

And if one day i see that fat guy from funcom that used to talk shitty lies in the video developers walktrough, i will punch him in the face, and the other one Gaute Godager also.

Sucks, huh? I was hoping for something that doesn't force me to spam every friend and stranger with requests to join. Facebook is just so lame. How about a mini-game, or a really tough puzzle, or well, anything other than social media? Oh well, I swore off betas anyway. This will help me keep that resolution.

Why all the nerd raging?? This is the company that made Anarchy Online; the only MMORPG not suitable for people with "special needs"...

  • NailzzzNailzzz Member UncommonPosts: 515

I was very interested in this game. But i will not do facebook. Shame. I was really looking forward to this game, but this anouncement is just a deal breaker for me. I feel like i should not bother with it now just on general principal. Frankly i hope they dont waste there time with giving me a beta invite anyway from having done the survey months ago. I will not support any game that incentivises joining anything not directly from the game itself. Even the ARG's where pushing it for me, but at least those were set up by TSW employees.

I just wanted to play a modern horror mmo. If i wanted to play on facebook, id be there doing it and wouldnt bother with TSW. Encouraging people to join and spam people is just there way of not having to spend money on marketing in the hopes that everyone else will do it for them. I just lost all respect i had for them.
