I thought beta's are about finding and fixing bugs?

    Welcome to bug # 1.

  • alakramalakram Member UncommonPosts: 2,301

So they planned some kind of mini game to hand out beta spots and they didnt manage to make it work?. Awesome.

  • BhorzoBhorzo Member Posts: 192

I don't mean to be a dick, but why do I get the sense that the people complaining loudest about the beta registration "fail" are the same people that never report bugs or help developers during a beta? The same ones that go "dammit, this game is full of errors and glitches, it sucks!" and then quit out of the beta... never having reported anything at all.

i would rather they delayed it than released it with a lot of bugs, makes the beta stage a lot more stable.

Imo, judging from the current activity on the TSW forums with the ongoing ARG and all, it seems like this actually is the first phaze of The Secret War and the "beta signup screwup" wasn't a screwup at all (except maybe the timer staying at 00:00:00 for so long before the shattered timer popped up).

Fourth faction trying to take down CoV, (as of now) the 3 pc factions working together against a common enemy etc...

Imo it seems like this has all gone down mostly like FC planned it...

And just since you guys seem to have misunderstood everything, this was never meant to be "start of open beta where everyone can pop in and start playing TSW for free, first ones to sign up get in first and the later you sign up the less chance you have of playing TSW for free". It was meant to be the START of the BETA SIGNUP PROCESS, where you could express your interest in betaing TSW and have a chance of getting selected for beta at a later time. It was also meant to be the start of the The Secret War event, which noone have agreed to what is yet, and I think maybe have already started, as I mentioned at start of post.

u make that junk account to troll this disinformation?
They had us initially register and go through a questionnaire to qualify for the beta, that was about two years ago, now this latest fiasco and u got the nerve it is going as planned; did u pull that opinion out of your @s as well?

Not trolling, that is what I think is happening. You already went through the society test, great, that has given you exactly as much chance of getting into the beta as this signup now will give you.

You were expecting to be playing TSW this weekend? Then you need to get better at reading!

Edit: Reasoning for thinking the ARG is the start of the The Secret War event (won't make sense if you're not into the lore of TSW or following the forums now):

With the CoV (who make the rules for interfactional engagements) compromised and the The Secret War trailer looking like it was all about interfactional engagement, it seems reasonable that order must be restored to CoV before the rest can kick off...

Now, I'm not sure if this was exactly a good business move from FC if what I'm saying is true, but for the people wanting a mature, comfortable and "intelligent" community, this could definitely be positive, if all the biggest self-entitled "but i want to play now so that's what i read from what you wrote" whiners keep their words and never play TSW. But we all know that's never gonna happen, so I don't get why they even spend the energy of typing it out. Guess they think it will magically make the world change to how they want it to be.

Sorry for coming in here with my first posts and sort of attacking some of you, but I swear, reading all the crap from some MMORPG-players really pisses me off (and often that's why they write it in the first place I guess). I've been reading through these forums many many times and been thinking to myself "man i should really register to speak up against that or that post", but I've restrained myself.... Untill now ;)

Hope I didn't offend anyone with this post, that's not my intention

Honestly, with Funcom. It makes no difference.

    True story.

I got into the AoC beta really early, like 6 months before launch. I was so fired up for that game. No fucking elves, pvp, amazing graphics, unique combat system, decapitations. Plus I read the shit out of the Conan stories when I was younger. So I went into the beta with the intentions of being the best tester they ever saw.

I reported hundreds of bugs, posted feedback every day, through every iteration. Tried all the classes.  Did Tortage about 20 times through character wipe after character wipe. I wasn't the only one either. The beta community was constantly giving feedback telling them what was wrong with the game and what they needed to do to fix it. People wrote novels on those boards, pleading with FC to smarten up.

They did sweet fuck all. The game saw no improvments for 5 months. Up until about 2 weeks before realease, when they optimized the game a little ( not nearly enough).

So if you want to rag on people for not beta testing a Funcom game properly, keep in mind that they don't fucking listen even if you do report shit.  I wish I would have had the forsight to just say "dammit, this game is full of errors and glitches, it sucks!" and then quit out of the beta.  It would have been more productive.

The devs were arrogant to a fault in the beta. I remember reading through the suggestions and reports on the beta forum only to see dev posts basically saying "piss off, we're making it the way we want to. Your feedback is useless". Release could have been so much better if they had listened to the testers rather than thinking themselves infallible.

Yeah but that was AOC. Different dev team is working on TSW. I am not saying it going to be completely bug free but i am pretty sure it will be an improvement over AOC for sure at launch.

Funcom.....  geez and they are wondering why peoples are so cynical about everything they do.   They cant do anything right the first time, ever.

  • AntariousAntarious Member UncommonPosts: 2,846

Well the only reason this bothers me is..

I had told a lot of friends about TSW.   I didn't really hype it up but we all enjoy MMO's that are not class based.   Told them it could be a decent game...

So the 26th rolls around and this happens.   I get the fact that the real issue is "The Secret War" app.   However, when you drag a bunch of friends into something they weren't following... all they see is a game where the beta sign up couldn't even get off the ground.

Ha! I wouldn't count those chickens yet. The guy leading this game is the same guy that did Anarchy Online.  Pretty much the only MMO launch in history worse than AoC's.  It was a hugely famous, bed shitting failure of a launch that is still talked about.

Honestly, if they were giving odds in Vegas on how this launch goes. I'd put my life savings on the first two weeks of this game being a total write off.

It seems much to do about nothing.

They thought they were ready.  When it was time, it didn't go as planned.  It happens.  I know it sucks for those who wanted in the beta, but lets face it.  They had a beta type problem.  Isn't that what beta is supposed to fix.

I self identify as a monkey.

It is not the same guy who was leading AO. The person you are talking about was in charge of the lore and world settings of AO.

I could be wrong, but from what I understood it was Gaute Godager who was game director for AO and AoC, and Tornquist wrote the story for the world of AO, and creator of Dreamfall and The Longest Journey.

As for your life savings, I'd be hesitant if I were you. You might be wrong, chances are better than AO and AoC that you will be, so that could be a hard bet to hold on to with pride image

Honestly, if that that happens. I will happily put on a pair of ice skates and call Satan up and see if he wants to play some hockey in the newly frozen hell.

I don't grasp what's the fuss about. Some technical issues occured prior to a MMO's beta start, so what? These are going to be fixed and the process will commence, that's what beta's are for don't they?

Some people really need to stop elevate common stuff to big issues.

I have launched a couple of hundred websites and about a hundred web applications in my professional career. Some so complex and important if they would fail for just one hour, it would cost the company tens of thousands of dollars of dollars.

Not a single one has failed so bad it had to be taken down before it even got rolled out. Not a single one had to be delayed for even a day when a release date was announced to the client.

Failcom is just again showing how crappy and unprofessional they are. I was about to give TSW a chance, but after this disaster i will just not bother anymore until it has been released for about a year and goone F2P. Even then i probably wont bother.

Considering no one even knows what the real problem is people are sure to jump on hate bandwagon but you went even a step further and shamelessly injected 'self praise' into it. Not that i believe a word of it..but still.....

    Bravo!!

I still think this was all planned and the ongoing ARG is the first part of the planned event.

If, as people assume, the problem is the facebook app being developed by some 3rd party who haven't managed to deliver on time, why haven't FC just put up the first part of their announced plans, that being the beta signups (ref. the mmorpg article where it said after signing up for beta you could go on and sign up for The Secret War)?

The majority of the screaming, shouting and complaining now comes from people who just wanted to get into beta, so why not just let people sign up and come with a new announcement when the app was ready? I realize there would still be complaining from the ones that thought they would get into beta as soon as they signed up, but still, better than now.

As others have said earlier, creating a page for just signing up for something (just taking input text-data and storing it somewhere) isn't that hard, so I don't think the technical problems lies there, and imo that is something they could easily have done no matter what, and well, maybe should have done no matter what, to get the focus away from that...
