Outside of World PvP, the major announcement for Star Wars: The Old Republic at this year's PAX Prime is a begin date for the highly-anticipated game test weekends.
At the panel, BioWare announced that gamers can expect the game test weekends beginning next weekend, September 2nd.
UPDATE: Also, please keep in mind that pre-ordering the game does NOT affect your chances of getting into the test weekends!
If you haven't signed up for Game Testing just yet, you can do so here.
errmm.... actually it DOES affect your chances to get into beta ^^
"I'll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up! Not me!"
I bet you get a notice on friday night and the game takes 2 days to download.
Lololololol.
Only if you've got a really slow connection. The download is somewhere in the region of 30GB I believe. Most broadband connections should be able to get that in a matter of hours, not days.
If I get in the Beta, I will sell the weekend passes to some SW nut, worked with cataclysm for 340 dollars, should work now
Hey if you are willing to give away your personal information in order to do that, go for it. Don't be surprised if you end up loosing a lot more money than you make doing that someday. Identity Theft sucks and takes a LONG TIME to get fixed.
"If half of what you tell me is a lie, how can I believe any of it?"

Why would he need to give anyone his personal info? You just fill the info fields with placeholders and dummy info. Not that hard.
playing the beta will ruin the game experience for you when its released, you'll be bored of it before it even launches so even if i got an invite i wouldn't play.
According to the news release, they are using testers from around the world, not just North America or some such. Seems you have just as good a chance as anyone else.

My ea account created something like 2 years ago(around the time aion was launched in the west) doesnt have any personal info, if they can do any form of identity theft on that then they deserve it

Yeah if you treat it as a free trial but for people like me who really want to give genuine feedback and squash bugs..playing it through again on release won't be a problem. Moreover, every class has its own personal storyline so lots of replayability. you can pick a different class for release.

Except that he already had to give up his e-mail address and other information to register on the site. With that alone you would be amazed how much info I can find on you in less than an hour. Easily enough to ruin your life for a while if I am feeling the desire to hack your computer using that info. I'm not even any good at it and yet I could mess your life up for a long time with only a little effort, though I would end up leaving an easy trail to follow. The good hackers wouldn't leave that trail AND would take no time at all to do it.
But hey, go ahead and leave yourself open like that. No skin off my back.

well thats why Bioware have in house testers and they get paid for it, i would gladly report bugs and try find faults in the game if they paid me, but i have a full time job already and im not going to do someone elses job for free. Beta is all about marketing and selling your game.

Yeah, i agree, weekend betas are all about some stress testing on the servers and driving the hype higher. Not so much beta testing going on.
That is why I rarely play them, or only play them when I really deslike everything I've seen about a game and rather try it first hand to see if I change my mind

Testers are limted in their reach considering the size and scope of MMORPGS it is very difficult to look into every nook and corner. That is why beta and stress weekends are done to check stability of servers. Unless a company has thousands of testers avilable to stress servers, in the end players can be most resourcesful.
Playing the game and reporting few bugs along the way would hardly be considered as a job.

Yeah, right. I'm sure you'll track down a whole lot off of a randomly generated gmail, hotmail, yahoo mail, or other free email account. {mod edit} I'll be amazed if you get a first name after a month of searching lol

Preorder MAY or MAY NOT have an effect on recieving the Beta invite. Its still undecided.
Atleast acording to Stephen Reid - @Rockjaw on Twitter.
Europe Weekends aint starting the 2nd September, instead they will be sending out invites for the ongoing Beta Testing for the entire game. Full Beta invites for EU, may or may not ( ) arrive during this week.

Just in time for my weekends to be loaded with other activities...instead of the wonderfully free summer...
A WoW guild mate got an invite last week. {mod edit}
this is great news indeed:)
keep in mind though that this is for Americans and not Europeans (as far as I know)
Stephen Reid :
Last but not least. We will be adding a large wave of European Game Testers very soon, with Testing Weekends starting later.
I've might have gotten it wrong though:P link:
