Its pretty much common sense(well, it should be) that in a F2P hybrid game you dont get everything for free. If you did, then there would be no reason to pay for anything and the company wouldnt make any money. So getting to the point, the free version of Champs offers less options than the sub version. If you previously played under the sub version and then you come back and want to play for free, then of course you wont have as much as you did before. This is not unique to Champs, it is how every single game that has gone F2P hybrid works.

CoH is allowing those who had let their subs lapse come back and have access to everything they earned/paid for previously when it goes F2P hybrid. If you had a level 50 in CoH before you let your sub lapse, you'll still have it at level 50 if you decide to come back in F2P. They will not be de-leveling toons and the like to squeeze more money out of returning players. It reads to me that this is what Cryptic is trying to do here, which would not surprise me at all.

I havent heard of anyone(except the OP) being deleveled in Champs. That sounds like a bug and should be reported as such. As far as COH goes, they are doing the same thing as Champs, which is giving free players less powers to choose from with the option to purchase more. That means if you have a specific power combination prior to F2P and decide you want to play aftewards, you might not be able to have that specific combination anymore.
Something is off here with the OP. Just like Quizzical said on page 2, the cap level is 40. Not 50 as the op claims. I also looked it up to verify. If he/she wants to be at least somewhat believable, one should have the facts. Its hard to believe he ever capped now.
No you do not have to use cpoints to unlock your character
To access what you had when you subscribed previously, simply subscribe again
They also give you the option to convert any existing (gold) toon to a f2p (silver) toon
You have the option to play for free, with the restrictions it brings, or you have the option to subscribe again. If you dont like either option then dont play, but Cryptic have done nothing wrong here

Other than to make substandard games that for most of their existance used a subscription model along with a cash shop for in game perks that were extremely difficult if not impossilble to earn in game by just playing. For a company with such an all around bad reputation, they really shouldn't do things that are obviously not consumer friendly, especially in light of other MMOs that offer so much more content for the same buck or even less.
First, it is F2P, just because you didnt bother to look up how it worked isnt cryptics problem, second, the fact that you wish harm on peoples families over a stupid videogame shows whos really evil here. And inc ase you didnt get that, its you.
I think you are overlooking the fact that MMO companies typically don't charge players twice for content they already purchased, even whe4n they go F2P. This is indeed scammy.
You don't purchase the content when you buy an MMO.
Want evidence? Find a P2P MMO that you are no longer subbed to and log on. Can you play? No? then you must not have bought the content.
It's a rare day that I defend Cryptic, but what you get to play for free in CO is a whole lot more than what you get to play for free in a P2P game you're no longer subbed to. I'm not big on the limited powersets. I'm REALLY not big on the fact that you can't even BUY the ability to use custom powersets. I guess that's why I only play the game once in a blue moon; or once after having too many Blue Moons.
Far as the 36th, not 50th level thing goes, I don't know what to say about that, other than I doubt Cryptic would make the concious decision to just lower the OP's character level. Cryptic is incompetent, but not malicious, though it can be difficult to tell the difference, sometimes.
No one has been de-leveled.. stop perpetuating a rumor started by a person with a poor memory.

The OP has a.ll the right to rage. I am playing STO and it is transfering to F2P (or better said CS2P cash-shop). Cryptic that by the way owns CO has promissed that all the P2P that transfer to F2P will keep all their characters, weapons, ships etc etc that they have acquired until now via game or CS. (but who knows they have lied before)
Clearly, the OP was a post made in anger but he has a point. I played City of Heroes for years and I purchased City of Villains when it came out. Now that CoH is F2P, I still have access to the content I paid for. It's very greedy of Cryptic to ask someone to pay a second time for something.
Didnt they intially give a few points to everyone when it went free to play? You might have enough to buy the powerset without acutally giving any more money.
And the cap has always been 40. The only reason I know for a fact is I was one of the poor scmucks who bought a lighttime sub. I might as well set the money on fire ;P.
On a side note, Never Trust Bill Roper, that man will screw you in a heart beat and then blame someone else ;D.
I know he isnt with Cryptic anymore I just like to say it whenever I have a chance ;D.

That might be true in your case since you suscribed for years but for somebody who bought the game and played 6-12 month they will be limited. Mastermind, controllers, Epic ATs can be restriced, IO restricted.
My case, while I can play MM and controllers, I can play my kheldians neither use my previously obtained IOs, which is content I paid. I don't have issue with that, it is how freemium model works.
Cryptic did the same thing with City of Heroes. They want me to buy mastermind again even though i bought every single expansion that CoX came out with, including City of Villians, which gave us mastermind...They're almost as bad as SOE now.

Just to clarify, CoH has been operated by Paragon/NCsoft for pretty long time, so its freemium model is not Cryptic's fault.
Ok let me give you some background. I have not played Champions in 2 years. I had several avatars but my main was the only one maxed out at 50. I thought i would try it out to see how it was doing today. My account was still there, as were all my toons.
The problem happened when I could not play my main hero. It seems that I would have to pay with cryptic points to open that powerset again. Also this toon was maxed out when I last saw it, now its level 36. What this means to me is that I would have to pay cryptic again in order to play a toon I already paid for once before. This is not gonna happen. I paid for the game full price once, I paid a monthly sub when it had one and now they want me to pay again for the powerset I already paid for once. I thought it was FTP, guess not really.
So to anyone from cryptic who reads this - I hope and pray you guys go broke and become unemployed. I am not gonna spend another dime on a game that wants me to pay for my characters more than once.
The Op speaks (well writes..) uninformed bullshit. everyone knows that old pre-"f2P" character had no fixed powersets. it has power styles that you could mix and match the way you liked whitout many restictions (the only one being that you needed XX skill points in a sertain sstyle to pickup the more powerfull skills. this goldmembership option is still avalible for subcribers but ftp players are locked into premade "classes" that means you can convert a old character into a f2p class but in order to keep the old build of mix &match skills you need to pay.
not that you would get the skills anyway since at frist login you would reset due to several changes to the power styles over the years.
Well champions is kind of a fail from the begaining Marvel saw that and pulled out ! I payed for the game my -self had a 50 that i can't use to so... i guess oh well.... broken Gmaes are sometimes not that bad if they go free2play but this one was for me ... i'm playing DCUO still it 's kind of broken game also unlike champoins you get all your powers watch i like!!!
Keep what you can carry ! Give nothing Back!
There are no level 50s in CO. The level cap is 40. Perhaps you are referring to another game.

How are all these people getting level 50 characters when the maximum level is 40? I suspect none of these stories are true at all.
Wouldn't give that shi**y company Cryptic another penny.
So, if they came out with a game that was really awesome. You loved the IP, all your friends and enemies loved the game, best thing to hit the scene in a while, you would refuse it based on the company that made it? Very silly attitude. Everyone makes mistakes, but that doesn't mean they won't be able to solve problems in the future.

Either you have never played Cryptic's games or you work for them.

Really, hahahaha! I certainly do not work for Cryptic. What a poor argument tactic.
I have played STO and CO just for your ignorance. STO was a horribly executed game IMO. CO is quite the opposite, I found it a fun, well-made, good game (though a little light on depth).
So anything else you would like to accuse me of? You did not address my question by the way.

There are very few absolutes I'm comfortable with declaring. But the absolute: "Any game Cryptic makes, regardless of IP, is a game I can live without" is one I can declare with the utmost comfort. both their current games are based on IP's I love, and I don't feel the itch to play THEM, so I don't think skipping out on their next, and likely final game will be a tough call.

Robsolf, I am suprised that you said that. If any company fails in the past, it does not mean they will fail in the future. Look at someone like Walt Disney for example.
I went through the whole NGE thing with Sony. Sure it sucked, but it never made me rule out any games from them for my entire future. Why would I or anyone else deny themselves something they like, based purely on the company. I am sure people have what they consider to be valid reasons, but others would not see those reasons as valid. Just someone who is "hurt" and taking their ball home with them.
It really does not matter what company releases a game. All that matters is the quality of the product (all services/ features) included.
