Yes, If Cryptic did make the best MMO I would play it. BUT, It's never ever going to happen, Do you actually think thats going to happen? STO was a pile of sh*t, thats the only way to describe the game, CO was fun, the same way playing Solitaire is. It's criminal to even ask for a sub after buying the game
I was looking forward to CO for a long time, Cryptic ruined it. The fact it's FTP proves it.#
I'm just lucky I didn't fall for the Sub for life, If i did id be knocking on Bill Ropers door.

Well I am glad you ar not made of stone. I have no idea whether they could make the next best thing. I don't make bold predictions on the future. I do know that most people tend to learn from their mistakes (not always though).
CO is quite fun. It does lack depth, but it is a refreshing change from the oversaturated fantasy market. The game going FTP does not prove Cryptic ruined anything. It proves they wanted to go with a different revenue model, that is all.
Soltaire: Can you level up, can you use super powers, can you customize anything, can you group up with others, what rewards to you get, how much does it give you in terms of content, etc. Please pick something that you can actually compare. I mean it's like saying driving a car is the same as sitting on a bench.
I don't know about the company being evil, though from what I've read on the forums they are actually making sto worse with the transition of f2p, making this game worse would be an impressive feat no doubt aided by black magic.
CO uses a pretty horrible ftp model though imo, even funcom with there AoC freemium model gives you axcess to classes you made before that are not free to play. I was surprised when I redownloaded AoC and saw I had made a Necro (forgot all about it) and I could play him. Because I already had the character I did not need to pay extra to unlock him. In lotro I purchase moria back when the game was still sub based, when it went f2p I did not have to rebuy the class so I could play my Runekeeper.
After I saw the of powers and the fact that I could play none of my 4 CO characters without converting to silver I uninstalled the game, the game was not worth a sub to me however had they not gimped so much of the character creator system for f2p I may have played enough to justify buying something. Cryptic is a fan of the double dipping system to begin with box+sub+cash shop.

My reasons are my reasons why I would never give Cryptic another Penny. All they want is your money, They make crappy games and charge a sub too. Their MMO's don't last long, then they make another one just as bad. They don't listen to what people want, it's just Money Money Money with them.
Startrek could have been an amazing game, LAZY LAZY programing made it diabolical, What a waste of an IP.
Now I've told you why I don't like them, I bet you can't give me more reasons why I Should play their games.
but the problem isnt that they cant make a good game the problem as i see it is the crap they do make has shown them to be just about as much money as they can milk out of a crappy game that was cheap to make and even cheaper to oversaturate an already overly saturated market
can they make a good game maybe but track record shows everything they crank out turns to shit fast
I didn't know game companies could be evil. Was cryptic involved in human and drug trafficking, bombing buildings and things like that? what did i miss?

Bifurcation. Good/Evil. A false dichotomy adopted by most of humanity since (at least) the 3rd century B.C.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
First, it is F2P, just because you didnt bother to look up how it worked isnt cryptics problem, second, the fact that you wish harm on peoples families over a stupid videogame shows whos really evil here. And inc ase you didnt get that, its you.
I think you are overlooking the fact that MMO companies typically don't charge players twice for content they already purchased, even whe4n they go F2P. This is indeed scammy.
No it isn't. If he'd cancelled his subscription before, he wouldn't have access to any characters on his account. Now that the game has gone f2p he needs to subscribe to access certain content. How is that a "scam?"
It's 'scammy' because he paid for the original game, expansions and content while the game was subscription-based, and had a character that was level 60 or whatever. The argument here is not that he would have had to pay a sub in order to play the content anyway; it's that he basically has to re-purchase the game in order to continue on his character, because none of the content is available as F2P.
People who have bought the original game while subbed should have the content from the original game and whatever expansions unlocked for them, then everything else can be purchasable in the cash shop.
My reasons are my reasons why I would never give Cryptic another Penny. All they want is your money, They make crappy games and charge a sub too. Their MMO's don't last long, then they make another one just as bad. They don't listen to what people want, it's just Money Money Money with them.

Now I've told you why I don't like them, I bet you can't give me more reasons why I Should play their games.
Frankly, I don't care what your reasons are. But I do care whether or not there is any validity to those reasons.
You told me why you don't like them. You are talking about their present offering, I was talking about future development. You were also saying "I would never give them another penny". That is fine, but it refers to the future, not the present.
As far as money, money, money. That is what every single for profit company is concerned with. Name one company that is not interested in your money. It really is a moot point. You don't have to pay anything beyond the sub.
Wouldn't give that shi**y company Cryptic another penny.
So, if they came out with a game that was really awesome. You loved the IP, all your friends and enemies loved the game, best thing to hit the scene in a while, you would refuse it based on the company that made it? Very silly attitude. Everyone makes mistakes, but that doesn't mean they won't be able to solve problems in the future.
There are very few absolutes I'm comfortable with declaring. But the absolute: "Any game Cryptic makes, regardless of IP, is a game I can live without" is one I can declare with the utmost comfort. both their current games are based on IP's I love, and I don't feel the itch to play THEM, so I don't think skipping out on their next, and likely final game will be a tough call.
Robsolf, I am suprised that you said that. If any company fails in the past, it does not mean they will fail in the future. Look at someone like Walt Disney for example.
I went through the whole NGE thing with Sony. Sure it sucked, but it never made me rule out any games from them for my entire future. Why would I or anyone else deny themselves something they like, based purely on the company. I am sure people have what they consider to be valid reasons, but others would not see those reasons as valid. Just someone who is "hurt" and taking their ball home with them.
It really does not matter what company releases a game. All that matters is the quality of the product (all services/ features) included.
I say it because has already had 2 shots to make a game, and in both cases, they launched broken, and shallow. And everything I've read about their design philosophy since indicates that they were just fine with that. There's no reason to think they've changed. They are a company that reaches for the lowest branch and yet falls short.
SOE, on the other hand, has made some good solid games, and some not so much. Even DCUO has its good aspects. AoC, despite its failings, has its shining moments, so Secret World holds my interest even though Funcom has had its bumps and scrapes. I'm certainly not a "one strike, yer out!" sort of person.
Cryptics games, at best, have tolerable moments. And those moments are likely tolerable mostly for the fact that they're using a familiar IP. Like in STO where you see the original Enterprise. But even in a mission like that one, it's still a shallow, passable experience, where your lower ranking officers tell you, the Captain, what to do.
I have no reason whatsoever to be curious about their next game, even though I'd love a non-Ebberon DnD MMO-ish game. They'll slap their own lazy combat system and engine on it, pay ADEQUATE tribute to the world lore and call it a day.

I see what you are saying, but CO is actually quite fun and playable right now. Certainly not broken. Also, IMO, I don't think that game was ever intended to be the deepest game experience. It is quite clear to see the design philosphy after a few hours playing. It is a light fun game.
STO, yup almost utter disaster IMO, but not every swing is a hit.
Again, I find it hard to be so dead set against these game companies. They all want your money (so that is no argument), they all want you to keep playing (see previous point), and they have absolutely nothing to gain by alienating anyone. If you or anyone else feels personally hurt by a game company, then your priorities are not where they should be.
You would be very curious about their next game is it was what you wanted, hard to argue that fact.

No, it's not a personal thing. It's not like they kidnapped my dog and held a gun to its head to get me to play. There's an argument to be made that they are wasting some good IP licenses and thus preventing another game company from creating something better. But to assume that another company would bother is a bit of a stretch.
That was really my only irritation toward SOE regarding the NGE. The game was already starting to show its age, with its 2D movement engine and shabby interface. NGE or not, my days were numbered there, anyway. But the bigger frustration was that they had their mitts on the IP.
I didn't know game companies could be evil. Was cryptic involved in human and drug trafficking, bombing buildings and things like that? what did i miss?
Yeah, they're making a cartoon-based documentary on it.

You had the option to convert it to a silver or pay to play it gold just like you had to pay to play it before. It is a hybrid system.
You obviously converted it without knowing.
