It's unfortunate that we, as a people along with our trusty righteous indignation, tend to get so vocal on the small stuff. Especially since, when developers do listen it's, so often, to that vocal minority who don't actually represent the bulk of players, but just might in the eyes of the developers.
Why not blame him? He blames Bush for everything. Though in a way I have to thank him and Congress for making me want to play mmos even more. They have the real world so jacked up I need to virtual world to get some sense of normalcy.
Ahhh the brutal truth but have a colleague come out and indicate its a humor piece, brilliant! Speak the truth and in turn don't destroy the hopes and dreams of the hype clans, let EAware crush them with reality after launch, love it!

Apparently you love the game you can't resist missing a post about it.
u know he was talking about people claiming tor woudl fail before it even releases when he put up the number one option. lol its a hilarious piece loved every bit of it.
That said people who want to play tor and have done there research know what kind of game they are getting. Im in this game for 2 reasons its star wars with bioware story. Enough said thats all i need to play this game.
i wont be disappointed when its not swg , i wont be disappointed when it turns out this is a nomarl themepark mmo with a great story and choices and comjpanions. I know all that.
i know space is on rails ii dont care. I thinkk ill love it all the more for that fact as i suck at simulation games.
this is an mmorpg in every sense of the word and i cant wait to try there take on crafting or to experiance teh class stories of all 8 classes thats why im hyped about star wars.
is there anything in there to be disappointed in . no i dont expect this game to remake the way mmorpgs play or to change the way mmos keep u in game at end game i know what to expect and as such i wont be disappointed.
if the class stories and 17 huge planet stories are half as good as the dragon age and mass effect stories im in all in and ill love it.
"Not all games are meant to suit you. If you don't want to deal with all of the dialogue and storytelling in a game designed for dialogue and storytelling, don't play it, you f**king moron."
^this, exactly.
This....but I would'nt have included the last phrase of the sentance. Coyote's article looks like it was written by a juvenile. Please do us a favor Coyote and never write another article anywhere until you've actually taken some classes on how to do so. I can't take you seriously until you do so.
****Fires very soiled hershey-squirt plungers at Coyote*****
All my opinions are just that..opinions. If you like my opinions..coolness.If you dont like my opinion....I really dont care. Playing: ESO, WOT, Smite, and Marvel Heroes
Wow, your amazing bud. I mean it must be really hard to take a sh1t on a game that hasn't come out yet. For the record, you could have been talking about GW2, Tera, Secret World .. whatever.
Point is, do you (and mmorpg.com) actually think this provides any value to anyone at all?
Like the guy said dont like the idea of gay relationships, dont have one. Gay people have the right to fight for what they want and i say yes go over the top to have it. Who are any of you to say they cant have it. Bioware is doing something thats going to only increase their popularity. Living in canada i cant agree with gay people not getting equal rights, its just barbaric to denie them simply because of who they are. Anyways the only true thing to say is dont like the game features dont play the game.
One of the funniest and most SPOT ON articles I have read in a long time. It could easily be translated for a number of games too. World class sarcasm. +10 from me.
"If half of what you tell me is a lie, how can I believe any of it?"
People allways think in black and white. It's exactly how the people in control of power want it to be, as this way people are easier to control and influence. Grey is not existant in politics, economy and media and therefore people aswell don't know anything about grey either.
I couldn't care less about it actually. I've preordered SWTOR the first day it became available and since then I don't follow the game at all, as I've seen enough allready a year ago. All I need to really know is, that it's a somewhat polished MMORPG based on the Star Wars IP with a list of features I'm interested in. If the game turns out to be boring after release then I'll simply not subscribe to it. Problem solved, as nobody forces me to play the game.
Also Bane, you're not gonna play because they're patching in same sex content? Kinda ironic from a bloke posting from Camp Hill, you have to admit.
Most people from Camp Hill, hell the general Harrisburg area are pretty conservative by and large. It's always been pretty old fashioned. I didn't say I wasn't going to play. I am going to play, only because I made a promise to my guildmates, but, that whole same sex content issue just took all the wind out of my sails for the game. I just don't enjoy that sort of stuff and steer away from it because of that.
Good thing then that it's not going to be forced on you or anything, isn't it? That you won't ever have to be confronted with such blatant immorality because you can simply refrain from choosing it? I'm sure it will be a bitter pill to swallow for you to even know, somewhere in the back of your mind, that such distasteful activities might be taking place, hidden away in the dark recesses of someone else's private story. Frankly, I don't know how you'll be able to cope with such an onerous invasion of your personal headspace.
That's the thing about the article I think it is revealing some truths that alot of us see as fact of this games criticisms the funny stuff is mostly in the way the article is written more than the information it provides. And the sad thing to that (to touch on badspocks issue) is the people who fall on the wrong end of this opinion will not see the humor in it they will only see their opinion being devalued.
I'm sure not saying anyone who takes this serious is right just explaining what I see happening. The odd thing is the other two points he makes there is not much of a good comback to those opinions which is why I'd bet we haven't heard many trying to argue those points but when it comes to issues that form who we are folks can often tend to be unable to avoid attempting to defend their position.
At the end of the day though seeing as that issue is in the article I'd just caution folks to not take the debate too far if you want to avoid seeing the thread and issue closed.
"I understand that not being able to pork the living sh*t out of an NPC isn't exactly a "game breaker". It sucks that in this day and age something as basic as "same sex characters" is still treated as taboo, and it sucks that it happened - but it did happen. They've been shamed publicly for being stupid and small minded, and they're fixing the mistake."
Yeah they should be ashamed for their weird stupid and totally small-minded priorities. I mean putting stuff into this game like... well stars ... and wars ... and everything which is needed to create a setting for a intragalactic war, like weapons, ships, planets n stuff.
Shame on you BW! You guys just didn't read the design document properly to recognize that love relationSHIPS of all kind are the only type of ships you have to care about. All the aliens and crap are just meant to be in there to make the relationSHIP more ... exotic!!! Duh! and you took it for a sci-fi game with adventures n stuff. amateurs and haters....!!
actually they should stop on the high level content and put in the equal sex stuff first. i mean, no one is high level at launch day, but we all have our sexual preferences set, haven't we?
now after your daily ritual of eternal shame, you guys reorganize your work priorities and get this singleplayer love relationSHIP content in or else this multiplayer game can not SHIP and people will start to compare you to the Ku Klux Klan!!! do you want this?!?
Decent article. Though there is a problem with the first section. I've met many Star Wars fans that didn't like Star Wars Galaxies in any of its forms. You seemed a little close minded to that fact, and maybe just a tad unwilling to admit it.
The first section would have been more acurate if you said Star Wars Galaxies fans are pretty much f**king psychotic, as everything in that section supported that thesis.
And while I don't disagree that "Star Wars fans are pretty much f**king psychotic", you didn't support this idea in the body of your writting. Perhaps if you focused more on fans' hatred of the prequels, their reaction to changes, albeit stupid ones, made to the original trilogy, or something that reflectied Star Wars fans as a whole. Not the sandbox lovers whose game was ruined.
Kudos for the entertaining read and that fantastic Spock Jedi.
I just want to point out to all the bajillion people who say "Wah! There are no gay people in the Star Wars universe! It's not in the lore!" that just because there are few gay characters doesn't mean that no one is gay. It's like saying that because most of the people in Congress or the Senate are rich white men that women and black people don't exist because there's only a few of them. You're seeing an absolutely miniscule segment of the population when you read some Star Wars lore. Sure Luke, Han, and Leia were all straight, but what about the other hundreds of billions of people? Seriously. Think it through.
TL;DR: Just because the lore doesn't mention gays, doesn't mean they don't exist.
Unless some crackpot has stated that they don't exist, which would Grade A bulls**t, and would actually make me lose my vestigal respect for the Lucas team. (The respect that George seems hellbent on destroying).
EDIT: Oh and the article was awesome. I'm probably not going to play the game for the same reason you wrote your article: the fans. IMO, the playerbase is probably going to be terrible (if the current fanbase is any indication, which I think it is).

Awesome article Coyote !

As long as the same-sex stuff isnt anything like Anders in DA2, I think we will be fine.
Im all for equality, but taunting players with it? Just wierdly intrusive.
Great article though. Props to yah, Coyote!
Amen, over 9000!!!

A game can't be made to fit everyones prefrences.
Just way too funny and accurate.

I don't care what anyone says.. If a Jedi came up to me looking like spock. I'd prolly piss myself.. Seriously.. That's just scary as hell.
(Breaking up the tension between controversial topics since ages. Enjoy folks.)
What hell is MMORPG.com doing allowing this article to ever be posted? Its blatant trolling the Star Wars fans.
