To complain that the game is "too story driven" is like complaining that The Pool is too "Pee-y", or that the sky contains too much Smog.Player in the role of the Hero  .  Fact and Error correction   T

The Greatest fear of the haters is, this is not the game You want to play.  I get a maniacal laugh when I read, that SWTOR is the first game to contain Story.  From people who didn't read the story in any other game they played, and insist those games had no story.  Not ever story ends with you being Revan.

    Pardon any spelling errors
Konfess your cyns and some maybe forgiven
Boy: Why can't I talk to Him?
Mom: We don't talk to Priests.
As if it could exist, without being payed for.
F2P means you get what you paid for. Pay nothing, get nothing.
    Even telemarketers wouldn't think that.
It costs money to play.  Therefore P2W.

Man, this is going to be epic, just for that, that game's worth it lol.

You do realize the vast majority of gamers who play online are not playing these games just to find a significant other right???

This is the single biggest problem with these idiots to this day in MMO's. The majority of MMO players thinks that just because an mmo is released, that it should cater to their every whim. They act like they are forced to play every mmo. The simple option is dont play it. The people who think every game has to catter to them is like, you said  a "f**king moron." and the mmo genre is plauged with f**king morons.

Great article even though i have exercised my option to not play SWTOR, but not because of story :)

I hate to blame a majority of mmo players in this day and age for what is a symptom that does in fact plague a good many posters on this website maybe it's in a rush to get the post count up but yeah I don't see what the point of having pages upon pages of posts about a game that you find undesirable is.

And of course I love the usual comeback of "it's a forum everyone is entitled to post their opinion" yeah but you don't find it strange that you post on every single post in the TOR forums even though you have a great amount of disdain for the game??

Why not just support something you do like? Or if you are unfortnate enough to not have a game that you like available go and help the real world try to solve the problem of world hunger or help your kids with their homework, what is the fascination for constantly harrassing people simply because they prefer a different gameplay style than you do??

The other option I find a bit more disturbing than people trying to get up the post count is the recent trend to see anything that doesn't seem to benefit the individual as something they must go to war against, do people really believe that themepark games like WOW and TOR will actually eliminate the development of other types of games??

The talk around here about GW2 would certainly suggest that isn't the case at all and we can go further back to games like DF,FE, or MO failures in some ways but proof that one gaming style has certainly not caused the other styles to be put out to pasture so to speak.

There's an old saying that goes "if you can't beat em join em" in this day and age it seems we need to add "if you can't join them leave em the hell alone".

    What a troll.

You dont even know what NGE was, it changed game from one type into another in something that supposedly was just expansion pack. I just left but i can understand peoples bitchng about it, how would you feel if your Hello Kitty online was changed in the middle into FPS shooter, or strategy game? Considering your tone in this piece of trolling you will be screaming so loundly that they will need to pluck they ears even in siberia.

About the second point some peoples hate that approach some like it, if you like it play it if not like it dont play it. Simple. Your bitching about they bitching is quite pointless becouse someone will start bitching about you bitching they bitching and we have first human made perpetuum mobile.

Last part i didnt even noticed and dont care either way, why you care? You really need some romance with few lines of code? And if not why do you care if some others really need to stimulate themselves that way?

Level of "articles" in mmorpg never stop to amaze me, it hitted so low that it created gravitational distortion like black hole:P

I disagree. Only because the people who don't socialize are still not going to socialize..while the people who do..will continue to socialize as well as play through theirs and their companion's story. From what I've heard there was no lack of socializing going on in the tests.

Well, I never was a Star Wars fan because to me the only two cool things about it was Darth Vader and Light Saber that when I was the size of a lil Jimmy liked 'em a lot. Story, horrible. characters not so very awesome, Han Solo maybe and Luke Skywalker's name has printed in my mind not because he's such hot shot or well developed character, but thanks to my Avira antivirus because of the reference it uses for its virus search app, Luke Filewalker. With all that being said I still want to give SWTOR a try because of the very features you mentioned. I've been playing WoW for a long time now, and frankly didn't much cared about the quests except the Death Knight questlines and canon Scourge (read Lich King) related questlines and of course pretty much the cataclysm story, I skipped on a ridiculous amont of quest details. I exactly want to experience now the narrative of the story as explained above, cut-scenes and dialogues, these are the things I'm looking for in an MMO, and I pretty much care about the lore and story that was why I drawn into WoW in the first place. I don't have any hope that somehow SWTOR is a totally different game from wow, and I know it needs to pick up on the things that made WoW successful. So maybe it can create its own legacy with combining their new ideas with standars of the genre and perhaps raise the bars for MMO development.

My worries with SWTOR do not concern the game itself, it lies with EA's pathetic excuse for customer service that can and will hurt SWTOR. Already contacted the game's customer support and those guys did not bother reading my email properly and replied a complete irrelevant response.

WoW is a success and in my opinion Blizzard owes a great deal of this success to their outstanding costumer support team, I just love them because they addressed my every issue as Booker T would say with the greatest of ease.

  • as long as i don't have to see the gay relationships with other players and their npc's then i'm good

  • RudyRaccoonRudyRaccoon Member UncommonPosts: 475

No same sex relationships? I don't get it, Bioware did homosexuality in the Mass Effect series so why not the same for Star Wars? To be honest it doesn't bother me if they don't, a man loving a women is wonderful in it's most natural way that even for myself as a young man likes gorgeous girls. Perhaps that's what Bioware wants to do with this game, to keep it clean for everyone.

That's because what you mean by socializing is joining a guild and raiding. There are tons of ways to make a game player driven without alienating the solo gamer but it's easier to make a single-player like game with multiplayer options and charge a subscription fee. I think even Diablo 3 will have more player interaction than this mmorpg.

  • eugameugam Member UncommonPosts: 984

LOL. Nobody seems to recognize that sexuality + paid merc = prostitution. No matter if homo or hetero. If Bioware was smart, they would cancel it an replace it with a droid. Repair costs are probably no prostitution. Or are droids amoral.. :D

  • MadimorgaMadimorga Member UncommonPosts: 1,920

It's not prostitution.  Even two adults involved in pixelated shenanigans where one is being paid by the other for said shenanigans is legal, so far as I know.  In fact, pixel prostitution could be the new and impoverished America's work from home, make millions future!

Anyway, Bioware certainly can't be arrested for pimping out its NPCs.  Although it would be hysterically funny if a crusading moral prosecutor tried to drag them into court for it.

Really not sure whats funnier, the post or some of the replies!

Also, love that the homophobes and the fanboys just go on to prove the point in their homourless responses too!

The main point to really take from this is simple, the game is not even out yet, but opinions are already formed? Fair enough, some aspects are well known, such as the many Bioware RP game touchstones that seem to have upset people. Well, thats ok you know, just don't buy it if its not for you. But for me, speaking as a Star Wars fan, not a rabid fanatic however, (there is a distinction), I can't wait. Unless you can point me to any other game out there that I can play in as a char set in this fictional world I love, (that isn't a game already out there that I have already played!), then I will be like a kid at Christmas at launch. (literally, it now seems!)

Let the haters hate, it WONT spoil my fun one little bit! As for some predicting its doom, such as the ill informed comparison to AoC, that the game will "have a high pop for 2 weeks, then die". Lol, really? I do believe AoC is still going, and one MMO is not like another, especially with the combo of SW and Bioware.

A lot of the replies are very sane, and some people have put forward a good argument, even if I don't maybe agree with them. But wow, some people? Medication is sorely missing from some lives......

@Cameo3 : Yes NDA is in effect until the game comes out.

I have beta tested in 2 squadrons as well and the game is truly epic. Almost all Collectors Edition copies are SOLD OUT everywhere. Seeing how alive the game and stories are I understand perfectly.

Once people see how good this game is there will be a huge drop in player count on other MMOs.

SW: TOR is the future and believe me I know.

It was so addictive and so good that since last night (end of beta) I had a very hard time sleeping although I was lacking a lot of sleep. The forums are under maintenance and I am going crazy trying to find any bit of information related to the game although I had the best thing.

Without breaking NDA, I can tell all of you that the worlds are huge and there are many of them, ALL the stories (including all side quests etc) have complete voiceovers with very interesting voices and styles of speaking. The gameplay is really good and interesting with many possible variations for them.

Also, having played Age of Conan until lvl 79 (hehe yep) and having played many other MMOs (WoW, Matrix Online, SW: Galaxies, Warhammer, Eve Online), I can say that this game is truly epic, not because I am a rabid fan of Star Wars, but because the game is so well done and it is not even out yet. I have played 2 different classes with completely different quests, stories, and planets.

Waiting until the 20th of December will be extremely painful and hard. I wish all of the testers good luck and may the force and patience be with us all.

  • EvilChemistEvilChemist Member Posts: 105

Firstly, I'm going to make a female character and same sex bang my female companion...I'm sure there are 100's of other guys who will do this like I've already done in Mass Effect (Thx Liara). Second, since its optional, I'm NOT going to make a guy character who bones a male companion because it's not my forte`.

Hasn't anyone told these "Lore freaks" that Jabba and the whole race of Hutts are hermaphrodites...I shit u not! Every couple hundred years or something they switch sex and F$ck themselves to reproduce. I'm quite sure I've read it in a starwars novel I just can't remember which. Hmm, who cares what novel when I have the power of GOOGLE!

    http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Hutt

Read up lore fanatics and do like Jabba and go F&ck urself. I should also mention that I'm not gay but I do know a really cool gay dude who if he so chooses too, should have the option to man blanket his own NPC companion.

This maybe the greatest article I have ever read on mmorpg.com.

I mean the only thing he could of added is how now the Anti SGRA crowd has gotten to the point where they are claiming that just having the option will somehow destroy children... But having the option to personally kill a guy in a scenamatic brutal cut scene with a gun to his head won't scar a child at all...

Or that even if Bioware put in an option in the game to disable Romance arcs that you don't like that it still wouldn't be enough for them. That just having the option to have these type of romance arcs are offensive... I love Christians, and Biggots who happen to be one in the same in the US.
