Are you kidding?
I'm betting those people are breathing a HUGE sigh of relief instead of having to answer "When is it going to come out?" "When is it going to come out?" "When is it going to come out?" "When is it going to come out?" "When is it going to come out?" "When is it going to come out?" "When is it going to come out?"
Besides, it's not like people in the real world work on holidays or anything. Everyone outside of gaming all get Xmas breaks off and don't have to worry about working on any holidays. /sarcasm
Seriously, did they use that image or something for the Eurogamer Expo?
Uh, Dec 20 2011 is 11 months away? What?
I was being silly. The European date would be 20.12.2011. 12.20.2011 would mean 12th day of the 20th month.
I'm sorry, I'll show myself out.
Or you can live in Canada where we use all three date formats! (My student loan app used YYYY/MM/DD and my university uses DD/MM/YYYY and the university e-mail program uses MM/DD/YYYY.)

Oh man, that sounds terrible. How'd that happen? xD

Enjoyed: WOW 5 1/2 yrs, LOTRO 3yrs, GW 1/2yr, DFO 1yr, EVE Online 3yrs, and Huxley (Beta).
Failed to impress: GW2 3months, Tera Online 6 months (best combat system in any MMO I've played) STO 1/4yr, Aion 1/2yr, AoC 1yr, CO, Fallen Earth, DDO, EQ2 1/2yr, WAR 1/2yr, Lineage 2 and FF XI 1/2yr, FF XIV.
Diablo pushed back to 2012 and no sign of the sc2 expansion this year but it does come close the estimated release date of WoW 4.3 content patch.
I just think that the suits who run Blizzard have really messed up with Diablo III. They build up the hype and then they effectively throw cold water by heading to the next calendar. Diablo III may be a good game and worth successor to Diablo 2, time will tell, but Blizzard are just slow nowadays and the games while good aren't really cutting edge.

They have always been slow on releases. Even D2 and the xpac took forever.
I was also disapointed to read that Bill is shadowing Eurogamer on SWTOR...if his journalism skills extended to checking the Bioware website he would have found
Seems to me they felt obliged to launch this year as a Dec 20th date seems pretty odd.
They just gave a blank check to Blizzard to capitalize on a Thanksgiving release patch whatever...
How is launching before xmas odd? Makes perfect sense.

I don't think WoW 3.4 is even going to be a factor. What's going to be in it even? A high level raid? That just means that WoW will keep a few hardcore raiders for a few more weeks. If they do launch 3.4 on Thanksgiving, that still gives all the WoW players almost a month to burn through that content before they switch to TOR.
I still think TOR is going to trounce WoW, and I don't think there's anything Blizzard can do about it.

I'm satisfied with the date. I'll be between semesters at that point and I won't have to worry about homework. I'll be free to dive right in to the game. I've noticed adds for it all over the place the last week or so, I was hoping that was an indication the release date was near.
Good luck with this Bioware. I hope all goes well. I'm eagerly looking forward to playing the game. Personally, I don't think a new WOW patch is going to present significant competition. If this were just another elf and orc game that would be true. But this is Star Wars, baby!

Why do you think EA is lanuching during christmas. It isn't for the chrsitmas sales because mmo game do not sell well during chrsitmas time. It is for server stability. They know many will not be able to play christmas week so the less people they have on that week they better their chances with server stability. You would think EA would learn by now but apparantly not.
Seems obvious that 2 days after Blizz delays Diablo III until 2012, Bioware announces SWTOR... thank god D3 got pushed or we may have had to wait longer.

I checked my email address saying in the title

That's what I linked to. But I believe the official announcement was made during the Keynote at Eurogamer's Expo. No?

OK. My bad then missed the link.
you are correct bill, the doctors made the announcement during their keynote address at eurogamer
