And yeah, the game has bugs, but they're getting bashed quite frequently for the size of the team.
Then why do bugs from beta still remain?
Pretty poor turn around time, don't you think? You can't honestly tell me with a straight face that you think SV has done a good job fixing bugs, even the most jaded MO posters that come here have no problem admitting that the game has more bugs than a block of swiss has holes - and has since launch.
Most of those who have actually played the game for any length of time will also attest that the game has improved significantly over time - it's nowhere near what it was at launch. While it still has bugs, the game is not nearly as bad as some people try to make it appear.
Downtime has also been reduced dramatically. Such instances are actually very rare.
The stability and having things work has improved, gameplay has not...
"No they are not charity. That is where the whales come in. (I play for free. Whales pays.) Devs get a business. That is how it works."
You are aware that it is against the law in the country that they work in for them to work Weekends, right? And that they are required to take a certain amount of vacation time, as well. There are no viral marketing tactis either.... Where did you pull that one from? And yeah, the game has bugs, but they're getting bashed quite frequently for the size of the team.
In Sweden, the standard workweek is Monday through Friday, both for offices and industry workers. The standard workday is eight hours, although it may vary greatly between different fields and businesses. Most office-workers have flexible working hours, and can largely decide themselves on how to divide these over the week. The workweek is regulated by Arbetstidslagen (Work time law) to a maximum of 40 hours per week.[4] The 40-hour-week is however easily bypassed by overtime. The law allows a maximum of 200 hours overtime per year.[5] There is however no overseeing government agency, and the law is often cited as toothless.
Shops are almost always open on Saturdays and often on Sundays, supermarkets and shopping centres, so that employees there have to work. Traditionally, restaurants were closed on Mondays if they were opened during the weekend, but this has in later years largely fallen out of practice. Many museums do however still remain closed on Mondays.
No law against working weekends. Work week is 40 hours, anything after that must be treated as overtime. Employees often have a choice in when they put in their 40 hours, including on weekends if that is their desire.
I did see a claim that 5 weeks of vacation every year are mandatory, but absolutely nothing restricting work on weekends.
Google is your friend.
lol.. I am moving to Sweden so I don't have to work. (40h work week, what is that ?)

Just a small note, because it's absolutely ridiculous and I'm absolutely stunned that people believe it...
THERE IS NO COUNTRY WHERE IT IS ILLEGAL TO WORK ON THE WEEKENDS. PLEASE STOP REGURGITATING LIES THAT SV TELLS YOU.
it isnt illegal to work on weekends, but it is illegal to try to force people to work a weekend over thier 40 hours. Itsthe workers cohice to do overtime.

If you can not run an MMORPG 24/7 when the game runs 24/7 then do not run one! period.
That is like owning and advertising your store is open 24/7 but in reality it is only open 5 days a week 12 hours a day.

LOL... once again u fail to understand the context and logic behind people words.. Henrik doesn't have anyone forcing him to work weekends, he just doesn't choose to, because he's laidback millionaire.

The labor laws in Sweden limit the number of regular hours and total number of hours you can have employees work. That doesn't mean it's illegal for them to have employees work overtime. There are just overall limits.
Collective agreements can override the laws concerning labor and hours worked, up to a point. There is a minimum set of requirements on working conditions, rest breaks and hours worked weekly, monthly and yearly that collective agreements cannot override. It is generally 48 hours a week, but it can exceed 48 hours a week if it doesn't exceed a total number in a longer period of time (i.e. 200 hours in a calendar year). There are exemptions and details that work out different situations. It's possible for someone to use up a year's allotment of overtime in 4 weeks for instance, and there's a section of the labor that explains how to deal with that. There is no mention of weekdays versus weekend days.
So...if SV isn't having people work up to 48 hours a week, it's not because the law says, "No, you cannot do that."
** edit ** Concerning Henrik - the law is applied differently to people such as homeworkers, telecommuters and CEOs who can be expected to manage their own time. If he says the law tells him not to work weekends, he is ignorant of the law in his own country or he is banking on the fact that most people won't bother to look things up.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Yes, but what Henrik is saying is specific because he doesn't want to be available to keep the server up over the weekends. So he says it's illegal, and people believe him. He could just have a person work Weds-Sunday instead, and they'd still be at a 40 hour workweek, but the problem is that he'd have to break up the way the team is set up now, and also have to "manage" them. Realistically, he doesn't want to work on the weekend, thus SV is basically closed. That's why a volunteer reboots the server for nothing.
picklebeast that is the case in alot of european countries.
As a European I can tell you that is a flat out lie. It is completely untrue. The 40 hour week is not specific to certain days, it includes the entire 7 day period.
Deathshroud, you have stated that all you do in MO is help newbies and wait for your subscription to run out. If you are no longer playing the game, why do you continue to post the above untruths? And in case you decide to report this post, I will repeat that you are flat out lying in the quote above and that is easily provable with 10 seconds of Google on European employment law.
are you playing the game? true thoguh it isnt exclusive to weekends, mainly over 40 hours is the point im getting at. I guess i should of thoguht a little harder about my answer sicne i didnt realsie all my posts were so scrutinised.

Just admit you were flat out lying or incredibly badly informed.
The law is clear, and you were wrong.
Fact is, it would be easy to have someone on station to reboot the server at weekends, but that would require a competant CEO.

Or pay overtime we all know they are on a ramen noodle budget right now.
i wasnt lying or misinformed i just didnt think through my answer enoguh, what i thoguht you meant is its illegal to force your staff to wrok over 40 hours and since most work monday to friday that generally means weekends. I should of been abit more specific with my asnwer. Of course they could change the work patterns to cover the weekend. However discord is fully capable and i beleive so is gradius to restart the server if it crashes. Im not making excuses for them i was just trying to provide some info on working practises in europe.
there are 2 types of mmo, imitators and innovaters.
...But they LIED. SV said it was "illegal" for them to work weekends. They said it several times and then the fanboys took over and began spreading the lie for them.
THAT is the issue.
SV could have easily had someone there every weekend. They lied and chose not to. IF they have now corrected this problem that is great but the lie they told still stands and if they would lie about this- What other lies are they spreading daily?
Unfortunatly I dont have one handy and am not going to browse old threads on the MO Forum. It was stated several times during the first and second time the server went down over the weekend. Henrick also talked about it in IRC numerous times acting like it was such a shame but "his hands were tied".
Many people saw the posts and (I imagine) they can stil be found on the OF if someone chooses to look hard enough. I promise it was said and that is where the rumor came from. Even look at this thread how a fanboy declared that it is illegal for them to work weekends.
Also, as I said- During the first time this excuse was used, I linked the law (showed they were lying) and my post was deleted.
What I am saying is the honest truth, I just am not going to dig for hours through old threads to find it. Sorry.
irc is not a source of offical information their posts in irc should not be taken as word. Its their for the devs to discuss things on a personal level with the community quoting irc has no real weight behind it. it isnt there to be considered an offical outlet of information regarding development or whats happening. Hence why i rarely use irc.
there are 2 types of mmo, imitators and innovaters.
Death, you and I both know that if Henrick (the CEO) says something is "illegal" in IRC and itsnot- His lie isnt justified because its "unofficial" or "off the record"
BUT- This has been stated before on the Official Forum by Official representatives of SV.
You are trying to spin things now.
Also, trying to say "they dont post everyday" when I said they "lie everyday"...I stand corrected (you are right) but I think you understand what I was getting at.
he might of been joking? it mgiht of been taken out of context. maybe he was lying. But essentially irc quotes are not a form of information. It could be taken out of context also if htere is no link to an offical post on the subject how am i to know you arent making it up

... I guess you dont. thats not really my problem.
Lets look at it another way then, shall we? Why do the players seem to think that its illegal for SV to work weekends? Why do they keep parroting that everytime a problem arises on a weekend and nobody is there to fix it?
I am not going to read through a ton of old threads looking to prove something to you which I (and many others) have seen with our own eyes. Also , knowing the tactics of SV (deleting post's/threads) its entirly possible that as soon as this conversation popped up,the post(s) in question were removed? Not saying they were (I dont know) but I wouldnt put it past them.
I am telling you my experience and you can choose to believe me or not. Your choice.
But again, are you saying it was the supporters of this game who started the lie about SV not being able to work weekends?
Also, Henrick was not joking. People were quite pissed and he was acting like his hands were tied and he really wanted somene there to work weekends but couldnt because of theose evil laws. Take what you will from what I say- I have made mistakes (and will continue to as I am human) but I am not, nor have I ever been a liar. And I assure you that I am not making a mistake here because I was really angry when my thread was deleted.
Please do me a favor and bring this up on the official forum and see what happens. Black Opal wont post here to clarify (at least under his title)

A 7 day week is 168 hours. 10 people * 40 hours a week is 400 hours. There are enough people to space them out, but they would be spread a little thin. You may not have to worry about coverage during lunch breaks, but people being sick would be a big issue.
