General: No Titan at Blizzcon

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

PC IGN posted a story yesterday wondering whether or not Blizzard devs would finally be willing to spill more beans about Titan, its very under wraps MMO currently in development and opined that maybe we'd learn more during October's Blizzcon.

The short answer is "Nope".

That's pretty much the whole story but you can read more at PC IGN.

They're keeping the lid pretty tight on this one.  I'm still betting World of Starcraft, but I'm probably way off.

this is weird especially after the SWTOR launch announcement. you'd think Blizz would use Titan to take some of the wind out of BioWare's sails...

And pick up the quest, click "track" and little 3D arrows appear showing you where to go.  Probably even click to run there.

Except if the target playerbase is significantly different.  (speculation of course)

I'm betting Titan is going through a major redesign after some of the devs got into SWTOR beta. "Oh shit! Add voice acting guys! Quick! What do you mean no one wrote a story for this game? Shit, we're gonna get creamed!"

I'm starting to wonder if Titan is in trouble.

Being that Titan would not be close to launching in december, that really wouldn't make sense.  Also being that it was a "maybe" to being includeded I would doubt even 1st half of 2012.  So people wouldn't hold of on SWTOR for Titan.

If there were a redesign, I would bet it has more to do with how casual the game is.  From what they have said its not supposed to compete with WoW.  So "World of Starcraft" or something like it wouldn't fit, at least going by what they have said.

Voice acting doesn't make a good game. Look at Everquest 2. It also makes content take longer to roll out because you need to record all the dialogue, or you get inconsistency where some npcs speak and others dont, or all the new NPCs are mute.

Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...

you realize they have diablo 3 coming out around the same time right? Just because it's not a "real" mmo doesn't mean it won't be in competition with it. I personally will be playing Diablo 3 over SWTOR, more because i'm sick of mmo's.

Not sure why everyone is so "here and now." Remember the thing that first got everyone's attention? Release of 2014. Thats..quite a ways off people. Not sure why you are obsessing over this product so early. Blizzard has run amuck and no better time then now with some major games being released. They've made enough cash.

More like, "thats all they did with the SW IP, we're still more than ok for the next decade guys.  All they did was attempt to copy us again and only added vocals to the same old boring quest design!"

I imagine they'll declare the first details regarding Titan when it is strategically sound to do so i.e. divert hype away from a competitor.

They've let very little slip about this title, but one tid bit that they have said is that it is a completely new IP and not related to Starcraft.

If it isn't a joke it's just plain scary for too many reasons to post here. AND it just makes me never want to play another game from Blizzard again. Seriously tho i think they could make a game about that since they did bring the flying mounts mechanic to WoW.

They already have Diablo 3 to hype up. They dont need Titan to make some people look away from SW. Also SW is dealing with the hype from GW2 even if GW2's release is alittle further out. D3 is going to take a large chunk of WoW players and people like me who are not interested in SW and lookin for something to pass the time till GW2. Titan information will come fast and furious in a couple years when the D3, GW2, and SW people are starting to get alittle tired of there respective game.

Truth is in this day and age regardless of how good a game is a large amount of players only last a year or two on any single game before they itch for something new. I cant even begin to imagine how WoW's numbers dip everytime a new AAA title is launched. If the game is good some make the change for good (till the next big title) the rest slowly trickle back to WoW or go back for an expansion. Blizzard isnt stupid. They know the SW IP will take a bunch of subs from them based on the IP alone. GW2 will take alot of subs based on the hype of being the next best thing. If GW2 delivers alot will stay. D3 will even take alot of people if it delivers even though its not really an MMORPG. Blizz is counting on the fact in a year or two they can start the Titan hype and prove they are still king.

On a side note Blizzard also has to be aware that some of its biggest free media people such as The Cynical Brit have stopped playing WoW and are hyping up GW2 or SW. People like the Brit have ALOT of fans/followers from WoW and are now getting excited about the other games they may not have otherwise cared about. I'm thinking WoW may be on its last leg and Blizzard is well aware of this. The thing to keep in mind is WoW's last leg is still alot better sub wise than alot of the current MMO's. So waiting a while for all the hype to die off on the upcomming AAA titles is in there best interest before giving some details on Titan.

Wow, you're one smart equine to tell the future like this..0.

*neighs and licking its salty block*

edit: Makes sense though. Blizzard is a huge developer and blue. Avatar is a huge IP and blue (and looking for a developer).

Of course I intended to write "by its working title" rather than "by working its title". V_V

I did write "intellectual" right though, which should make up for a lot.
