[23:27] <[BRB]Mojoz> henrik don't make hype you won't be able to live upto, claiming its going to be "Mortal Online 2" is a massive statement to make o.O
i think Hernik is no worse than the majority of CEOs tbh, i mean look at tasos and darkfall hes even worse in most peoples opinion or that guy over at gearbox who fooled people into buying DNF which turned out to be a shit fest of a game along with a few others.
how can a feature not present be a feature not working?
Do you know about the features listed on the game this has been listed since release.
Guild warfare & territory control
Your guild managed to construct a massive keep. Now it is time to take control over the land. The world is divided into numerous zones (each with two or more keeps). Only a guild with a keep will be able to claim official ownership over a specific zone. Once established you will be able to tax the owners of each house in your territory. Be wary though, the keep only grants you the right to do this, the people living under your rule have to accept you though. So it's cool that Henrik is a lying hype artist, because Tasos is an even greater liar and hype artist? Way to fail your logic test.
On topic: TC looks great ofc (as all of MOs promised features), but I'm really curious about the whole "sentry" thing. SV is basically saying that keep owners will be able to hire NPC guards and even concubines, but at the same time Henrik says that they don't have the AI for a basic gatekeeper NPC (look at some of the posts in this thread) - for those who don't know, shared access to keeps and houses is something the community has asked for for ages, but apparenlty it's against SV's principles of a "hardcore" game where the players should do all the menial tasks themselves.
In other words, MO lacks the AI for a simple access list. How well does that bode for any "sentries" protecting keeps?
I also agree with the concerns about the siege mechanics, voiced by several players in the thread I linked above. As long as the towers controlling an area are easily destroyed, powerful guilds will just ninja siege them and break other guilds' control of said area. It has been done with stone keeps sporting millions of hp, why wouldn't it happen with lonely, undefended wood towers with 10 000 hp?
Funny how the fanboys don't get it. Just one, typical quote (from the same thread):
Everyone is assuming the system will be exploited before we know all the mechanics. I'm sure the beta testers and devs are reading through these posts and testing out our presumed exploits, and see if it really does have a negative impact to game mechanics.
The optimism is almost touching. OF COURSE everyone in their right mind is expecting exploits - every damn feature in the game has been exploited to this date, why would something as huge and powerful as TC not be? The devs know about so many exploits, past and present, yet only a handful get fixed within reasonable timeframes. How will 20 guys on a test server change that?
i bleeive these sentires will remain stationary, they will use ranged combat (crossbows) to shoot enemies. AI problem not an issue with this but once they have the ai working (which is likely going to be a while) we could see melee counterparts. But in truth the AI isnt all that bad, me and my guild had some great fights aronud meduli in a 3 way fight ely, spar odin ag and aq involved. Was fun and the graveyard very useful. Was entertaining seeing a hrode of skeletons chasing us aronud the graveyard and being able to use them as cover from horse archers. ai needs work but i think this mysterious ai update isnt the main issue with the ai its the bugs like (double tapping to reset mobs) and the mob prediction and pathing.
there are 2 types of mmo, imitators and innovaters.

Still, shooting at people with crossbows sounds far more complicated than acting as a glorified access list. I mean, all a gatekeeper does is stand there, cross-check a character's name against the list and then "open" the gates. Doesn't even have to be animated. Hell, we wouldn't even need a damn NPC, just shared access.
As for the AI update, well... I thought their focus after fixing the Dawn bugs (which took 3-4 months) would be GUI, AI and magic - i.e. basic, core features that has been broken, bugged and incomplete since launch almost 16 months ago.
I guess SV decided that designing yet another extremely complex and poorly tested system would be a better idea. Who needs a smooth UI or thinking mobs with proper pathing, when you can ninja siege abandonded towers all through the mornings? Judging from the official forums, no one; the remaining fans seem to be jizzing their panties full already. Amazing how Henrik still manages to hype up people who really should know better by now.
you mean the mo 2.0 and mo2 thingy. yea i accidentaly posted it and necroed an old thread
but yup looks like my memory doesnt serve me well. Still was ncie he clarifed the issue for the community beofre the patch.
What about features that are not working. And I am glad you were man enough to admit you were wrong. I hope other people will follow suit from now on.
And the only reason he "clarified" was because people were giving him flak for saying it and he was backing out of it right before patch because he even knew the patch was going to be underwhelming.
What he said in IRC and what he said months later were 2 different things and if you are trying to make excuses for him. Naybe you should tell him to only stick to the facts not the hype.

Mechanics that games in the 90s had are too hard to replacate now. Just because a little old game called UO had a Owners, Co0owners, friends list and those levels of people could accesss certian features of houses to castles does not mean a game in 2011 can do the same thing.
i think Hernik is no worse than the majority of CEOs tbh, i mean look at tasos and darkfall hes even worse in most peoples opinion or that guy over at gearbox who fooled people into buying DNF which turned out to be a shit fest of a game along with a few others.

I dont see how anyone else being a liar is an excuse for Henrik, but let's look into the two cases you brought up. Tasos, while he may not be completely honest and objective, got a working game he represents. Sure, no skillcap is not my cup of tea, but I can't deny DF playable, enjoyable and it's features are relatively completed and working.
As for DNF, that's marketing for you. Those guys job IS to make you buy the game, no matter its quality. It would be poor marketing to state "Hey, we made a shitty product, but buy it anyway", eh? However, there is difference between hyping the product up before release, and continue pretending everything is fine when its obvious its a disaster. Just look at how Ssquare Enix admitted their fail with latest final fantasy and are remaking it. That's what Henrik should but cant do, h will continue lying "everything is fine" straight into everyones face.

Henrick has lied again and again and again. Much more IMO than any CEO or PR person I have (personally) ever heard. Oddly enough, a dedicated few continue to buy his excuses , forget his lies and give him a pass on anything he says.
Henrick has a tactic which has worked for him every time. He lies, hypes , lies some more, promises and does not deliver... He is silent for a while and then pops back in with new lies, hype and promise.
"Look OVER THERE- A shiny!!!!!!!!!"
The fanboys look at the shiny and forget about everything else in the past. As the shiny gets close you can see its really a pile of shit painted gold. Silence for a while. BOOM he back.
"Behind you, A really cool shiny"
-Its been working since day 1 with SOME people. They continue to cling to this false hope. But more and mopre are waking up every month as the stock reports show a steady decline into nothingness.

And guild warfare just started working.

well there doenst even need to be a gate keeper, just allow palyers added to the keep friends list access to the gate. Problem solved.
