Was that huge shpeel really necessary? You could have summed it up in just a small sentence: "GW2 will not kill WoW. It's age will." Done. I read like 1/3 of it and realized it was pretty redundant.
Wouldn't they have to have similar subscription models to be considered competitors?
Not at all. They are both competing for the loyalty and cash of members of the same market.
to put a finer point on that: If anyone, anywhere decides to stop playing and paying for WoW because they are going to play GW2 instead, then they are de facto competitors.
And if anyone thinks there won't be a significant number of people doing exactly that, they need to scale back on the smoke.
Charr: Outta my way. Human: What's your problem? Charr: Your thin skin.
The two games have completely different playstyles and skills.
Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 is a game where skill is key. You have a very limited selection of moves you can use at one time, so timing and combinations are essential. While you may have over a hundred skills you could choose from, you're only allowed to bring 9 or so with you into an instance. Also, gear is relatively meaningless. No gear out there is significantly better than that you can buy or trade for with an hour's farming. Reaching maximum level takes comparatively little time and effort. And yes, the game is geared towards PvP balance. There is still immense amounts of PvE content, but the game is first balanced for PvP.
WoW is a collector's game. Your gear is essential to you. Your personal skill counts, but your gear counts for more. The classes are balanced for PvE more than for PvP, or perhaps neither is emphasized over the other.
Guild Wars is also subscription-free, at least in North America and Europe.
Guild Wars 2 has better graphics by far. For that matter Guild Wars 1 has better graphics than WoW.

Of course I haven't played GW2, but I did play GW1 extensively.. And I think in this section..

Skill should be replaced with STRATEGY, while I agree the skill system is awesome and extensive, it really just boils down to as much skill as any WoW player would have at targeting and using skills..
Not trying to be a d**k, its just people use the word "skill" about games where sometimes it does not apply..

GW1 PvE was far more about strategy than skill, but PvP was a nice balance of both (or rather, you needed lots of both to do well).
In GW2, there is a degree of movement and positioning that can be mastered that will separate differences in level of skill. There are more options for strategy which will further increase the need for skill to be able to adapt to these strategies (GW2 combat looks to be very fluid and changes rapidy from one engagement to the next).
I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote.
why is everyone looking for the holy trinity of mmorpg that can " kill " WoW
who cares..every year its something new..but not really new..and that everyone says its gonna take WoW down
heres a thought..dont play it..even better..why sweat a crappy game like wow..everyone knows it is and has been catering to the lil young'ns for years..i know i treat this game / title like one of those f2p / p2p mmorpgs that advertise on the disney channel..im like eh ..who cares..do a eye roll and go about to w/e i was doing
saying 1 game to rule them all is ..umm rtarded and imo swtor nor gw2 will be great titles in the long run..why ..just because the shelf life of mmorpgs nowa days just dont keep thier freshness anymore..theres always that 1 AAA company ready to pump out another copy paste job of the other or last theampark mmo..they have been doing it for the last 10+yrs and have been makeing thier quick buck ever sence..and theres nothing showing that its going to end anytime soon

Then what do I do with this???
But seriously, havent we been butchering this topic? I wish the mods would start closing these topics since they all say the same thing.
In a little boys voice “Mommy, Please make the bad thread go away”!
No game is going to kill WoW, please for the love of all that is good and holy stop making stupid threads about this crap!
I was going to report the OP but it's apparently already been reported. Fail thread is fail.

Nothing kills WoW because WoW is one of the undead.
Hell the subscribers themselves are zombies.....
