I'm not going to go into the whole plethora of reasons that F2P = Bad in my book. I will mention one thing specificaly in regards to this article about Free Players being "Toxic"

    P2P Game...

    1) Create an Account (cost $10-$50)

    2) Grief/Hack/Gold Sell

    3) GM's perma-ban account

    4) Create new Account (cost $10-$50)

    F2P

    1) Creat an Account (Free)

    2) Grief/Hack/Gold Sell

    3) GM's Perma Ban Account

    4) Create New Account (Free)

    5) Repeat process as many times as desired since it has no cost to Griefer/Hacker/Gold Seller

    .............................................

I hope the difference between the 2 situations above is obvious to everyone. It's not that MOST F2P players are "toxic" or even that "toxic" players are exclusive to F2P players. It's just that those players who are "toxic" happen to be ALOT harder to get rid of in the F2P model then they are under the P2P model.

At least under the P2P there tends to be a real world financial penalty built into engaging in the kind of anti-social or hacking behavior that could lead to a permanent ban of the account. It's going to cost you some amount of real world $ to get a new acount.

With the F2P model there is no real disincentive to engaging in "toxic" behavior IF your intent is not to play the actual game...but just to disrupt/ruin the game for others. Accounts essentialy become disposable...if you loose one due to being banned...you just create another, etc...

F2P games can put some mechanisms in place to help with that (i.e. a new account can't send global tells, etc until it puts in X number of hours played) but nothing really approaches the kind of effectiveness of a financial penalty involved with loosing $10-$50 every single time you act like a dweeb.

Great post, I agree 100%.  The gold farming trade is something I hadn't considered.  Then again, don't games like WoW have free trials that can be signed up for on any email account, guaranteeing that the level one spammers don't have to be entirely concerned about losing priviledges?

I agree with you and you forgot one thing. Free 2 play players if is a Cash shop whore player can brake many rules before getting banned because the company dont want to loose one of the very few who plays money.. also havent you noticed that this "valued" players have higher chance to achieved things in game? like increased luck on upgrading drops etc? ;)

It's FAIR, and creates a LEVEL playing field. Unlike PayToWin.

People don't buy god and other items on P2P games? What planet are you from? Just because they can't "legaly" do it it does not mean it does not go on.

You can't really be that tired, because you have destroyed nothing. You are trying to impose your opinion of FTP games onto others. That will never work. Ask yourself, would I listen to someone if they were talking like I am now?

I keep seeing the ignorant posters call every FTP model PTW. This is completely false. First, what exactly are these people "winning". Faster leveling, less grind, etc. big deal. It does not affect anyone but the individual.

Second, all pure subscription games could also be referred to PTW. You pay a sub, you get to play. You don't pay, you don't play, and if you are not playing, you are not "winning" anything.

People need to get over themselves on this issue. FTP is not going away.  Other players don't care if you play their game or not, same as everyone else.

I sub to games if I feel it is worth my entertainment dollar. I have subbed to some games after trying the FTP models, and some I have not. The ones I don't sub to, generally do not get played enough. The obvious conclusion from this is "If you like a game enough, you will pay for it."

To say that sub only games are superior is very ignorant and closed-minded.

Referring to the underlined italic text comment above.

I am more dumber from reading that than you were for writing it.
