If he's a professional reviewer then he needs to learn the English language and look up the word dislike before his next review!

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"

Hmmm . . . a reviewer, on a website that has been bashing SWTOR for months now, is suddenly changing his mind now that the game is getting close to releasing.  Convenient is about all I can say.

"If half of what you tell me is a lie, how can I believe any of it?"

Ahaha, oh dear, still reading but already laughing.

I didn't thought it was possible for him to discredit his initial negative impression (which was the cause of multiple threadnoughts here) more than he already did, but he proved me wrong, alright ...

Glad he changed his mind though, sadly that doesn't mean much in his case.

I wish him good luck reviewing games on his MAC.

(For the love of god, noone ever tell him about Bootcamp or other means to run Windows).

Edit: Crap, someone already did: "[UPDATE: A few people have e-mailed me to say they've heard that the developers say the game can run on a Mac running Boot Camp, which supports Windows. Until I try it myself on my MacBook Air, I don't want to get anyone, myself included, to excited.]"

The funny thing about that review is that it can be viewed as a positive for both fanboys and haters of the game.  The reviewer said he liked the game the second time around due to the rpg and single-player aspects of it.  Fanboys like myself will exalt in a previously negative reviewer changing his mind and scream out "Immersion!  Story!  Voiceovers!  Options!" Meanwhile, the haters will be able to chide us with "Haha, he liked it because he prefers the single player RPGs!  We told you guys!"

Lol, gotta laugh about it.  That review has something for everyone.  :)

I've also heard professional reviewers bashing games just because they didnt get a beta invite or something similar, afterall they're just nerds like any other nerd is about all I can say, doesent make their words all holy and true or objectional.

What a weird review. He even states he fears MMO's at some point.

He discredited quite a bit of his previous review, but look closer; he's mostly talking about things that were not in the previous impressions, and putting an oddly positive spin on the things he does talk about.

    For example:

"I brought my heroine through her first few quests. She killed some giant bugs in a cave, murdered some bandits with Sith lightning and completed a blood trial for a guy named Spindrall."

That's an odd spin on the whole "kill quests suck" mantra. I guess generic quests are fine when there is story behind them. What?

He does the same with other things. Previously, he went on a ton about number keys and how horrible abilities are in MMOs (which apparently he had never played). Now none of that is an issue, or he just doesn't go into it.

Seems like this reviewer is just a shortsighted dumbass and shouldn't be trusted by haters or fanboys.

Bottom line is that that guy isn't an MMO player, so maybe he's not the best one suited to do an MMO review.

come on, we all know that the majority of the writers on gaming sides aren't trained journalist, which have to be objective and factual. its a waste of time to argue about why some of them like or dislike a game.

Sigh, this idiot is preaching misinformation again, now he is persuading all the non sense hater that the game is a single player RPG with subscription (Which it is not).

and if he's such a hater of MMORPG, i don't understand why did he or Kotaku bother to send him write an impression on it anyway? it's like asking SF/KOF gamers to preview/review heavy rain.

    Typical Kotaku.

    Aye ...

Looking forward to him playing space-on-rails for ten minutes and getting back on this RPG conclusion, as Swtor is a "Starfox like space shooter afterall". Or an "EA Sports worthy, death-match rugby game" after playing a game of Huttball ^_^

Anyway, the darn thing that these awful impressions of very limited hands-on time with broad, sweeping conclusions DO prove, is how they generate a metric ton of page-views. Which might have been his incentive afterall.

    The clever ******.

Reviewers change their opinions on a game when the HR department of a studio make the funds planned for buying good reviews available.

The remaining bad reviews are just from bitter reviewers that didn't get paid.

'My first experience with the game was impaired by high expectations. I don't play massively multiplayer role-playing games.'

    Oh.

Hey if the guy has changed his mind then good for him. But not convinced a non MMO player is the best option when reviewing an MMO.

When did I ever say anyone's "words all holy and true and objectional"?  All's I am saying is that it doesn't surprise me a bit that a two bit reviewer from a two bit website does an about face on their stance of a game now that it has a release date that is about two months away.  If they keep bashing it and it turns out to be awesome now, they look like idiots and even less people will look at their website than do now.  If on the other hand they start saying "Well maybe I was wrong" or "After a second look" they can save face.  Unfortunately for them, I have seen them use this tactic on a few games now and I don't normally read their "reviews" anymore unless someone links to it like this thread here.  I simply will not support their mediocrity anymore with my advertising hits.

I don't trust reviews for any game unless the review is coming from a friend of mine (and in person).

I've been burned too many times when relying on web/print reviews.

Lesson learned a long time ago.

No such thing as a professional reviewer in my opinion. Just another chump with an opinion.

There is something to be said for reviews from friends of yours, who you either agree (or disagree) with, and listening to them since you know how they "think" for the most part.  Keep in mind though, you will never agree (or disagree) with ANYONE 100% of the time.

Oh absolutely. My friends and I agree/disagree on a whole of host of issues when it comes to games, but like you said, we have that inate ability to know how one thinks because we are so close.
