Id trade both Dust and EvE over for a WoD game. Any day of the week. Thats a personal opinion. I do realize quality mmorpgs are an undertaking. But WoD is something I really think would have been very profitable for them if they could just pull it off. I dont see Dust being that. And EvE has had its time as far as Im concerned. I could care less if it crashes and burns altogether.
Yes, well this explains why your opinion on this particular matter is unimportant. EVE is what started CCP. It is their, and MANY players' bread and butter. World of Darkness would, and eventually will be, a successful MMO. I have no doubts about that. I enjoy the World of Darkness IP, and it has a large following that will no doubt contribute to its success.
Your baseless disdain for EVE is ridiculous though. I'm not even going to bother defending EVE. Its quality and success speaks for itself. Its success is necessary in this genre which is dominated by the 1200 lb gorilla known as WoW. You may not care about it, but it is something that this genre desperately needs. You will care if it crashes and burns, when developers are afraid to try anything new.
If I'm not mistaken CCP stopped carring about EvE, the game which was making them money and instead they decided to imtroduce cash shop into a game. I guess that should learn other comanys they should respect their playerbase.
Why should they respect the ploayerbase when teh playerbase doesnt respect them?
Apparently stating the truth in my sig is "trolling" Sig typo fixed thanks to an observant stragen001.
I've looked at the people that were let go which are the community team and the content team.
Here's a question, how is CCP going to 'listen to their playerbase' (bye bye community team) and refocus on Flying in Space (bye bye content team)?
Something doesn't add up.
I'd like to know where you got that they canned their community team and content team. Where does it say that these teams were let go? What are your sources?
According to the blog they posted, approximately 20% of their employees world-wide are being affected. It also says these will primarily be in their Atlanta, GA location. This is where World of Darkness is being developed.
Am i the only one who thinks, they should just completely dump that stupid vampire game, and trash that pointless FPS, and divert 100% of its resources to EVE and EVE ONLY?!?!
Then we get the best of both worlds, space updates, and incarna updates - put into one, a complete, and awesome sci-fi mmo, that caters to many more people.

You're not the only one. However, it's a very selfish outlook that basically expects CCP to be a one-game company that isn't allowed to have any other prospects.

I guess you know nothing about CCP and their scandals over the years.
However, when the players have been complaining for the past year that EVE isn't being given enough attention, it is ridiculous to complain when CCP decides to focus on EVE.
Perhaps I've just worked in the wrong places, but when I see a company state that they are refocusing on X, what I assume they mean is that they've run out of money to do Y. There's rarely actually any added money for X, it's just that X is what's left. Everything after that I read as simply spin.
There was a write-up over the summer (that was unfortunately on a forum that no longer exists) that did a good analysis of CCP's financials and predicted that there would be a money crunch in Oct/Nov because of the burn rate of WoD development and the timing of some debt renewal.

There should be links on this thread regarding CCP's financial stuff.
I left because of the NEX and monocle debacle and this just seems dumb to me. Though the lackluster launch of incarna was unsatisfying i definetly think they should have stayed the course and finished it as well as work on FiS if possible. Team BFF shows how much can be done to FiS with limited resources, i can only imagine what they could do with even a small boost to their manpower. I was really looking forward to WoD and not so much Dust. This wont get me back into eve anytime soon.

Ok, i don't know if they lose subscribers because i can see almost same numbers of players when i log in. EVE is in sci fi world one icon same as WOW is in fantasy world genre. Yes, this game can make me mad sometimes when i lose ships or when i get ganked from some big corp bastards but where in this big MMO world you can find one nice game about star ships and galactic wars? Not one single game on market is so hardcore SF like EVE and most of the players will return back when they get bored with dragons slaying. Come to JITA and you will see there more players hanging around then in any other GW,EQ clone. Not a game for everyone and it never was. But on the end who cares about our speculations it is just bla, bla bla and time will show results. Ah, one more, WOW is not dead??? I believe that same kind of critics from MMORPG forums predicted that many, many years ago Guys do not ever play games of fortune, it is not your you
I remember people on these forums and elsewhere have been saying that CCP is going to run out of money before finishing either of their new games... For a while now. Its weird that we figured it out so long ago and they still kept pushing until now. I hope they didnt make this choice too late, because although they make some mistakes CCP seems to be one of the better developers.
I would probably say that I have equal interest in Dust and WoD, so I think I am pretty non-biased when I say that they should have not tried to make both of them at once as they have. Focusing on Dust would have been better, since it will be released on console, and they can't push a console release back as well as a PC release. I'm guessing that is what they were thinking, to at least some extent.
Since the captains quarters are in the state they are in now, I hate to imagine how far CCP is with either Dust or WoD (given its the same engine, correct?). I hope they are released someday, because they both sound very good. But I will not hold my breath. I am not a fan of EVE, but I hope for the sake of sandbox games and for the future of CCP that EVE fans buckle up and continue playing and promoting the game. :-)

CCP actually admitted that they lost subs. Read the article.

Im just not sure how much longer EvE could be expected to be something that draws in new players on a regular basis. How old is this game anyways? I will admit they do a great job of maintaining it. Or have in the past with graphical updates, new mechanics and content.
But some are sort of giving off the vibe that EvE is a fresh new thing and its not. Its been around forever. For me the novelty is far gone. Im sure it will continue to chug away for many years, but Im not convinced that no matter what they do with it, its ever going to have an abosolutely huge sub base. Or get slews of new players.
A new IP might do that. So when I say EvE has had its time thats more what I mean. I feel its leveled out and will continue to be a quality mmorpg, but I really dont think its going any further as far as real success goes. Its already had it. I just feel that for the most part, its not going to get any more successful or unsuccessful than it already is. Its going to get a few new players here and there, and its going to loose a few here and there.
Despite whatever additions they bring to it. Nor do I think by releasing a game like WoD is going to make EvE any less successful, or any more so. Its just going to stay as it is. A lot of people seem to think their sub numbers drastically dropped. I dont see any reason to think that. I dont think players were necessarily happy all around, but I dont think the majority of them quit playing either.
And the majority wont quit playing. So whats the point of putting a new IP on the shelf for the time being? And as far as EvE goes Im not sure reducing your work force by 20% is really going to help all that much. I felt content in EvE was steady but sort of slow going.
Take Incarnia for instance. Why has this taken so long? Serioulsy. I heard tell they ran into some walls with it. What? Games have had human avatars walking, running, fighting for years and years. I dont doubt Incarnia would take some doing but they've been talking about it for years and it never really seems to get where it was supposed to be. And now they're cutting the staff by 20%. Im not getting this. I kind of felt content was a bit on the slow side in the first place, not to mention the graphical bugs some of which have been there since release!
Iam going to be honest here without rage or anything.
CCP is a studio that needs to make profit to pay their employers.
If they go into the red figurs it means they need to pull the plug and thats a bad idea when your having a few new product in the pipeline.
Reorganisation is the best way to make a studio healty again.
Now with that said i agree they made a few mistakes and Eve isnt the easy mode mmo you get into quickly.
Eve for me as a young pilot is hard, way to hard tbh.
I made a few mistakes when (speccing) my character and now i need to wait a year to respec it again wich has a major impact on skill training time.
Wich is Eve's major flaw right now, Training time for skills is to long specialy for some1 who has to start from scratch.
Iam 3 months down the lane and just started to get a feel of how Eve works and made a few mistakes by going to Low sec and think i had a chanse fighting other pilots.
I was in a dominix and got blasted by 1 Caracal -_-
My own faulth ofcourse and it was a 1 sides match but here you see why Eve is hard to get into.
If Eve want more players they need to revamp the skill training or give new players a way to catch up so they can join the fun in low sec / null sec.
Training a year to get in a Battleship with good skills is way to long.
Older players have alot more fun as they got the skills done years ago and push out more damage / tank more / stronger drones / They are OP versus new players
Iam close to jump into a new mmo soon even tough i like Eve alot, but the skill training system is working against me day after day.
freefall, and something of a mitigated disaster yet another mess up by CCP. if any of you Vets think communications between player base and company are going to get better you are sadly mistaken.
I'd like everyone to ask themselves this question,
"If you were a developer that truly loves the game you work on and play would you advocate the introduction of a cash shop into the said game, even though financially it wasn't required to maintain the game and software house?"
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"
You're reading the graphs backwards, you have to read them right to left instead of left to right. They clearly show decline. Whether it will stay that way is anyone's guess though, subs ebb and flow in all games.
I'm not reading it wrong at all, the average has stayed at 40k~ since before through and after the RMT ordeal.
Actually the statement by CCP that this article is about has the following quote;
"However, over the past two months, our subscribers have gone down from their peak this summer."
Well ofc... summer is over. Kids are in school...
Past two months != when everyone claims the entire subscription base (less than 5k people actually IIRC) "flocked" away from EVE (lol)
