What is really going on, well how about the CEO of Blizzard explaining it?
"China is our largest market by volume but if you measure it financially, the United States and Europe are still our largest markets," said Blizzard co-founder and President Michael Morhaime. "But China is probably our fastest growing market in terms of the future."

So yeah, Blizzard happily took everyones money for Blizzcon only to tell them they were going to stick it to them.
Michael Morhaime's quote above could be interpreted as "Our future is in the China market, but we are happy to have our current American and European customers pay for that development."
Pandas and Pokemon still confusing? How about a talent system that removes once and for all that pesky expense of having to balance talent trees?
Wonder why MoP trailer was cobbled together from old clips and rendered using the game engine for the rest of it? Blizzard isn't sinking anymore cash than they have to into WoW it seems.

Glad I don't waste my money on this game anymore. They moved their initial development team to Titan anyways so WoW is left with the scrubs.
With TOR, GW2 and TSW coming out very soon and a little down the road, Blizzard knows that their grip on the western mmorpg market is coming to an end. It only makes sense of the things they are gonna do with the game. The majority of their subs come from the east and with this latest announcement, they are literally letting everyone know that WOW is slowlly but steadily becoming more of a mmo meant for the Asian market.
ah cmon, what do you expect to keep all there employees on a game that came out almost a decade ago. Give me a break, stop bashing wow and let them get on with what they do.
Anyway, I'm excited about the new content, new race and class, suppose I should move to china? I didn't hear all this bullshit when they had Lich king with a Nordic theme. Seriously, I think you're looking a bit far into this. If you don't like it, then head out, or don't come back. Either way, the game will be fine. However... Did you ever think that perhaps Pandarean were added because they were the number one requested race? And that mayhaps the pet battle system was added just to give you something to do with the hundreds of vanity pets?? No you're prolly right. Blizzard is moving on to the asain market and shitting on the rest of us ROFL. For a lot of you, blizzard can do no right at this time, so do us all a favor and play something else.
Not everyone hates wow and blizzard. I just signed up for the annual pass, and I'm guessing I won't be alone.
what baffles me is that after 7 years of existance ppl STILL refuse to accept that wow has COMIC graphic's and characters. If you'd have bothered checking on warcraft lore you would know that panderen existed for some time. heck, theres hero classes in wc3 that are pandas. no problem with that eh? I'm actually glad the new continet is chinese inspired. We have enuf middleage forests and farms, cities all european ambient. this is their chance for new architeture and flora. and that crap about balancing talent trees`? when was the last time you played wow? vanilla? since cata theres plain and simple 1 build for every spec. ONE! everything else is dps loss.
Just because there are pandas and pokemon doesn't mean it's aiming for Asian Markets...this is one expansion, very high chance the next will not have asian theme. How many of you said GW is aiming for Asian Markets?
Even so, who cares, does every western MMO have to have medieval european theme? If so then I hope more games aim for Oriental, Middle East, African, South American, North American Markets etc (oh wait WoW already has all those) ... PLEASE DEVS stop trying to satisfy the European nations, because apparently they only want Medieval European themes in their Fantasy games.
I guess since I'm part Asian I don't understand the big deal about asian themes showing up in a game.
The trailer thing is a stretch...all their intro trailers do the same thing.

It's simple, WoW has jumped the shark.
I agree -- Guild Wars Factions had an asian theme and players didnt think twice about it
even EQ2 did an asian themed adventure pack

For me, i never said i hated or to this day hate Blizzard or WOW. I played that game for years. I still believe they are one of the finest dev companies out there. From a fiancial standpoint though, you don't need to stretch to far to see that with the new games coming out, and the amount of players that are looking for something new, the direction that Blizzard is going and the vast amount of subs in the east, seems to be catering to the asian market more now than ever.
number 1 or poorly researched? Also, if you asked customer wether they wanted more content or 'pets' the answer would not be pets. You realise you reflect the exact attitude that blizzard has fostered over the last few years, mainly, we dont care about existing customer's if they are not our main marketing target. max profit = serve majority market only.
If you are a customer that has paid their subscription for many years (thats getting on for a £1000) thats a pretty nasty attitude to take - and would absolutely be despised in any other industry. You dont have to hate a product to be let down by the supplier who neglects their long term customers, and lets face it some will like panda ninja's, many will not and prefer more coherent and epic core storylines for the immersion factor, what about the latter? stuff them is it?

More pets? Maybe, but that isn't much of a change. Making pets fun and useful is where the change it at, which is effectively more content (a shitload more stuff to do).
I guarantee the new pet system will be an absolute roaring success.
The pokemon battles are an example of what most MMORPGs are lacking: Minigames. Each new expansion has a bunch of new instances, raids, some talent changes and new gear. It gets completed after a short while and people are left to either PvP or find something else to do. Repeatable content is great, but gets boring quick.
The pet battle system, however, is an entirely new aspect of the game. It's like the achievement system, but it doesn't make people feel like they've accomplished nothing while collecting them (it's just pixels, but achievement points did nothing last I played).
I for one will either borrow a friend's account just for the companion battle system, and if it is limited to one account in some way (I doubt it), I'll resubscribe. The content is great, but the pokemon system signals a move away from generic content to a more hybrid sandbox/themepark experience, which I am fully supportive of.
I'll leave you with an over-the-top, all-encompassing blanket statement: Anyone who doesn't see the value in the companion battle system is short-sighted and naive.

Bolting on little widgets/mini games rather than investing and committing on the core game is the cheap sticky plaster of the gaming world. Now the thousands hanging about ironforge waiting for their next instance can have pet battles. Brilliant, visionary, and addressing all the core issues in 1 fell swoop! Got to catch em all!

If the norse team would havbe included a lemming race or something else silly you would be fine with it?
It is not a cultural thing that upsets people here, AoC had a Chinese based expansion a while ago and no one gt upset about that.
The issue is that Wow is getting sillier than ever before and to me it seems like they are focusing more on kids and tweens than earlier, not on Chinese people in particular.
Expansions should be about changing game mechanics and adding huge game-changing features, as well as adding new races, levels and talents. Content can be added at any time without changing anything, so it doesn't make as much sense to dedicate expansions to them.
Now since you brought it up, let me ask you something: What are the core issues?
Sarcasm is not a crime!
How?
How is them addin in a race that they were going to add in BC back in 2006 they started working on this...
How is adding in a race that was in Warcarft 3 the frozen throne which was released in 2003, how is that jumping the shark?
How is adding in monk or having animals fight or having an asian themed ex pack jumping the shark?
Makes no sense... at all...
Jumping the shark is an idiom. first employed to describe a moment in the evolution of a television show when it begins a decline in quality that is beyond recovery. -Taken from Wikipedia.
So you are saying it some how is a decline in quality? They are adding in more customization, a new class with new mechanics, new graphics updates, new focus on world PVP.
Where is this "decline in quality?"
Your opinion is hardly justified, let alone validated by any evidence that I see at Blizzcon.
ignore WOW for a second, can you imagine if the next version of Call of Duty announced pet battles and space aliens with 'zappo-guns' introduced because the devs knew they would get an extra million kids playing. Ofc they would not do that, there are lines to be drawn or you lose the integrity of a game concept. Ninja Panda's & pet battles is not a million miles away from this compared with the original game vision that the first 3 expansions represented. Got to catch em all!!

If they wanted to focus on kids, they should have added more sexy armor and blood.
I'm still not seeing how Pandas are more silly than gnomes, goblins or mohawk grenades. Please englighten me.

Integrity of vision. If people buy game A, it is a bit insuting to an existing customer who likes and pays for game A to say, hey next expansion we are no longer focusing on the concepts of A, we are focusing on B, because that's where max our profits lie. Now if you said We will continue to heavily support A, and here is this new B content as well, then all good and well. This is not the case at the moment.

Chen was a goofy hero in WC3. There are so many places in the lore to go without resorting to an expansion built around pandas. It would be like making Cataclysm focus on the Worgens, it would be goofy and laughed at.
I have no problem with Pandarens being a new race in a South Seas and Azshara expansion. That wouldn't be my ideal setting either, but at least it wouldn't focus on a new race.
Blizzard is just spending their time on fluff at this point and maintaining the status quo. With all of the cash they bring in they could be bringing about major improvements to the game and giving us content that no other company could dream of doing because they lack the money.
^^ hits nail on head.

As I said a million times already .why is it ok for a guild wars to have a chinese theme expansion and a pokemon-like mini game and not for WoW?
So if Blizzard shows evidence that this expansion is not just focused on Pandas and is truly focused on Alliance vs Horde war like they claim, you wouldn't be so angry? I can understand that.

Blizzard expansions tend to be the biggest out of all the MMORPGs.
And I believe the expansion is focused on Pandaren lore, not Pandarens. That may sound stupid, but it's just as if they were to focus on the lore of Arthas rather than Arthas himself. Wait a second, I think they had an entire expansion dedicated to that.
