It's actually the other way around. Children don't want to engage in activities which are, or can be perceived as childish activities because their friends may make fun of them

I am nearly 30 and I hate the whole pandas idea, so just take it for granted - most elder players hate the stupidity of the panda idea.  Not just because it is childish, but because it is f**g stupid and doesn't have to do anything with the whole WoW idea at all. The Kung Fu panda is not simply childish cartoon, but the f**g stupid one... Blizz have just put their money on the wrong horse.

Do you have any proof of this?

Maybe some one was a fan of WC first

    i was a fan. try as i might i can't find any pandas in w1 or w2.

There were no Elves, Tauren, Gnomes, Trolls or Undead in Warcraft 1. OMG! We should remove everything except Humans and Orcs from World of Warcraft!

i agree! finally, a voice of reason.

personally, i don't much care what wow throws into its pot right now. but the argument of "they've always been in the game" makes me want to cry and point out that wc3 wasn't the first warcraft game to those who seem to think it was.

    1. Warcraft Lore is build on a foundation of traditional High Fantasy, per it's original roots as a Warhammer based game. That's why Elves, Goblins, Gnomes, Dwarves, Tauren (Minotaur), Draenei (Demon variant), etc, are far more easily accepted by players. Anthromorphic Asian Pandas that practice Kung-fu... not so much.

    2. They were originally a joke. Yeah, maybe they're not meant to be a joke now and they're supposed to be a serious part of lore, but it's hard to change people's perception when they were used as the punchline of two of Blizzard's April Fool's jokes.

    3. Kung-fu Panda. Yeah, Pandaren "existed" prior to the movie, but the movie spread the perception amongst the general public that Anthromorphic Kung-fu wielding Pandas are associated to an immature and silly kid's movie. Pandaren being taken seriously is going against the current of general public opinion of otherwise.

It's all in perception. Yes some people are perfectly fine with Pandaren and even looking forward to them. But there's also a hell of a lot of people that feel quite the opposite, both current and previous players. Time will tell how well the expansion is actually received, but as it is this is the first WoW expansion that has been met with a "wait wtf is this?" reaction, and not just from so called "haters".

wonder how many people are gonna dress their kids up as pandas for trick-or-treat this year....... and Blizzard hire Jack Black and/or Jackie Chan for the advertising of MoP just because it will give you extra $$$+

My reaction to WoW: MOP was freeing up 30+ gigs of space that I'd been antsy to do since early Cata.  Gone, kaput.  It's been fun WoW...... just not anytime recently.

Most of the posts I've seen about the Panderan recognize that they started as a joke, and then showed up in WC3. But it doesn't really matter. The entire thing is made up. It's just like Star Wars. Somebody pulled it out of their butt. Whatever they want to pull out next is perfectly legit.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

I'm just highly amused by most of the reactions.

Can't help but snicker at those believing that playing a half-naked barbarian chick in a chain bikini or a big manly marine with a big manly gun shooting big manly bullets is for some reason more adult and mature then playing a panda.

If you want adult and mature go read literature, become politically active or do volunteer work.

If you want to just have fun come back to play some games and stop whining about the pandas. Because, beyond a very, very, very small selection of games, none of them MMOs, there isn't anything adult or mature going on here; It's 'merely' a lot of fun.

When you're done snickering, try to understand that many adults want to play video games that aren't designed for children. It's irrelevant whether it's a book, a TV show, or a video game. For example, I actually used to love a TV show called Care Bears. As I grew up though, I eventually lost complete interest in the show.

Also try and understand that a cartoony panda bear race simply crosses the line for a lot of people. It's the type of thing that appeals to a very young Asian audience, and I'd bet that Blizzy is quite aware of this fact.

It's truly awesome that you're down with the pandas, but it really shouldn't come as a surprise that many adults who have invested a lot of time in WoW do not share your love.

Could you suggest a race I should play if I want to seem more mature? I've been looking through them all, but they're all cartoony. :(

Maybe if I want to be as mature as you and all those other adults, I just shouldn't play. I'll go play Age of Conan; a twelve year old told me they show breasts in that game. That's incredibly mature!

Acting mature is what we should all strive to do in live. Thank you for showing me the light, Cecropia. :D

This is about the response I expected.

I'd respond with something like two pictures comparing Hello Kitty to Pandaren or even Pandaren to the current races, but I doubt anything productive would come from it. :(

No, that would be counter productive for you.

Whenever I see someone comparing whatever game to anything to do with the Hello Kitty brand, it's almost always in the form of trolling. The funniest part about my post was that I wasn't trolling. I don't need to.

Cutesy cartoony pandas do indeed have their place in this world: in the bedrooms of Asian children. And there's nothing wrong with that.

    No I didn't think so.

Ive seen you post this point before, but I dont think its really about maturity.

Its about preference and what people consider "fun".

Playing a Panda in a fantasy game may not seem like fun to some.  But thats okay right?  Because you dont have to play one.  Unfortunately seeing Pandas run through Orgimmar may seem very unfun to the same kind of people.  You've got trolls running around, goblins, orcs, undead, and giant narly looking Taurens.  And Pandas.  What doesnt fit here?  Pandas.

Its really not that hard to understand.  Agreeing with that view point is certainly not a requirement but understanding it is fairly simple.  I even listened to a podcast that was pretty objective about WoW done by Game Informer.  Andy the editor and chief had choice words to say however.

His words were, " Pandas...are....STUPID.  Oh but it was in the lore before.  WHO CARES.  They are the expression of everything I hate about WoW. " and this guy is a hardcore WoW player and has been for years.  He loves WoW.

You forgot to mention Gnomes. You know, the three foot tall "people" with huge heads carrying around five foot long weapons. The race where the male dance involves a spanking animation? You know the one.

Oh, and Blood Elves. Don't forget about them! The race where the men are women, and the women are sticks.

But you're right, I'd much prefer seeing a goblin running at me than a Pandaren. Totally man.

Do you play WoW?  Because if the game is really that rediculous too you Id imagine you wouldnt bother.

Every time you post you make WoW out to be such a rediculous thing that Pandas are totally acceptable.  Yes thats exactly your point.   Maybe you're right in that WoW sucks altogether.  I dont know.

I dont like gnomes particularly.  I dont like goblins.  Not overly fond of Taurens.  There are other things I dont love about WoW.  But I HATE the idea of kung fu Pandas.  Hate it.  Passionately.

I cant deal with things like minotaurs existing in the world.  No big deal.  I can deal with gnomes (mostly...bleh), and goblins etc.  I can appreciate their backstories, where they came from, and they fit in the world.

Once upon a time there was a race of Pandas who learned kung fu that lived on an island that........ SHUT UP!  Shut...up.  Not listening to that.  Thats the stupidest thing Ive ever heard.  Even for WoW.

I've played WoW on and off for 7 years now . I've always come back for expansions even if its for a couple of months or so just to play through the new content . I really didn't like Cataclysm that much and most people I know in the game felt it a bit lackluster compared to the previous two . So I was think unless its something really speacial next time around I wouldn't return to WoW . Instead of speacial what they've delivered is not only lackluster but absurd to. The day I heard the news about MOP was the day I knew my time in Warcraft was over . Rift offers me some of what I enjoyed once about Warcraft and I'm looking forward to TOR . Pandas honestly what on Earth were they thinking .

  • LurvLurv Member UncommonPosts: 409

Reading most of these threads, 90% of it seems to have bearing on people's hatred for pandas. "Pandas....ARE....stupid". That's the extent of people's so called validity of why the new xpac shouldn't have been based on Pandarens. WTF is wrong with pandas? Really? Pandas don't fit in a WoW world? We have other bear like creatures running around and oversized bull/moocows called Taurens. Not to mention that WoW has always been cartoony to begin with.

Getting too old for this $&17!

I don't play WoW, and haven't for ages. I'm just not so naive as to think it was ever serious business. Honestly, it doesn't seem like you are either; instead, you're trying to make Pandarens out to be worse than they are. This is evident by your use of "once upon a time," "kung-fu panda" and your constant misspelling of "ridiculous."

See, nothing I've said or done is an exaggeration. Everything I've posted regarding WoW is actually in the game, or is slated to be in the game via the expansion. I don't need to use absurd pictures or embellish, because everything I've said is absolute fact.

Most of the detractors of the game, however, must exaggerate. This clearly shows that they aren't just trying to get their opinion out; they're trying to change others' opinions as well, which is just pointless and petty.

Once upon a time there was a race of blue space goats who's crystalline spaceship crash landed in a field of walking flowers.

Continue to exaggerate and embellish if you want to gain the admiration of the twelve year old readers amongst us, but any intelligent person can see right through it.

great. another whine fest with nothing to say short of an abusive rant.

just to point out, though; you ARE on a thread somewhere whining like a little girl with nerd rage...

Or maybe YOU'RE one of the actual "nerd-raged" little girls thats sitting in your mom's basement with cheeto breath picking apart an xpac that is coming out regardless of how much you hate it.

Which would explain why you have a quick defensive response to my "rant".

"Abusive"? Its text on a thread. No one really cares about what you and I have to say. But I do tell people all the time in both online and RL to STFU when they're being whiny about something that they have no control over. I'm only nice to a certain extent.

BACK to this xpac. There aren't any reasons that I can think of why a fun and interesting race, a new monk class that no one is really gonna turn down, a new zone, and a nice massive update in content is going to be so horrible. Maybe WoW needs some additional turns in their story and environment. Cata wasn't exactly fin for me and drove me away for a bit. But I didn't complain. I just let my account go and kept WoW in the back of my mind until they decided to do something new. In any case, Mists of Pandaria is going to BRING a lot of players back and generate a good amount of profit for Blizz. I'm playing when it does come out. In fact I already reserved it and signed up for the annual deal to get the beta invite. I'll be seeing those who are actually going to give it a try there. :)

Guess what?  You have YOUR opinion and others have THEIR opinion.  You have no right to attempt to keep them from voicing their opinion either.  They have as much right to speak their mind as YOU do.  If you don't like that, then I don't think public forums are really going to be a very comfortable place for you.

I've been here for a whiles. No discomfort here. And yes I have opinions like everyone else. And I'm here for OPINIONS. Its one thing to say how you dislike the content or themed change of something. Its another for people to go around creating 5236457364 threads on here of how they despise an aspect of a game's new content. People complain and bash and I merely point out that all they have to do is say they don't like it, what they don't like it and obviously move on from the inevitable. Content format doesn't kill a game. Its the players that kill the game because they're not getting what they want.
*sigh. Just take a breather, eat some rice and watch Kung Fu Panda.

    Pandaria was meant to appeal to the fans of the warcraft lore;

Seeing as it's causing such an uproar, I guess lore-fans are almost non-existant anymore -_-.

Played - M59, EQOA, EQ, EQ2, PS, SWG[Favorite], DAoC, UO, RS, MXO, CoH/CoV, TR, FFXI, FoM, WoW, Eve, Rift, SWTOR, TSW.

i loved wc2. let me start with that. i played it like crazy. unfortunately there came a time when my friends would refuse to play the game with me anymore if there was water on the map. mainly because i loved navies in strat games. c&c, too. give me some water and you've lost the game. even just a thin strip up the edge of the map.

so, when wc3 came along, my friends stayed away from it, so i did too. we were into shooters. no navies.

so, forgive me for not understanding the lore when i ask: is a gimmick joke really enough a part of "lore" to base a major expansion on, do you think?

for me, it's the same as making a major expansion around letting everyone be headless horsemen. which would be cool. and i bet if you mentioned THAT on the forums you'd get as much oohing and aahing and demanding by the fans to be headless horsemen. or could we all be darkmoon faire carnies? they're at least more common. and everyone could have new clown masks. awesome.

i guess what i'm asking for is clarification. because, unfortunately, though i played wow for a ridiculous amount of time, i never noticed pandas before. i've heard the brewmaster thing, but i only made a half-hearted attempt to do holiday gimmick events because i always seemed to be busy, or they didn't have anything i wanted. though i recall a funky icy scythe my warlock wanted which i never got. i demand an expansion centred around that scythe and then i'll return.

that scythe has been in the game as much as pandas.

i might SEEM mocking to you, but i am genuinely interested. there's a lot of new stuff cropping up in regard to the pandas on the wikis, but i had never seen any of it before other than as a cutesy gimmick.

surely murlocs would be more interesting as a player race.

    i'd play a murloc.

    gurgle.
