Which MMO developer should be ban from making future MMO titles?

MMOExposedMMOExposed Member RarePosts: 7,400

In your opinion, which MMO developer of any kind, should never be allowed to make future MMO titles, and why?

For me, it would have to be Darkfall's developers AV, Allod and ROM's developers as well.

Darkfall was a dull attempt to make a Sandbox fantasy MMO. it had soo much hype. it reminded me of the hype levels that Warhammer had. yet failed to deliver.

Allod was too hammered down by the Itemshop focus. same for RoM. pretty great games actually, but the Itemshop and greed was a killer.

My answer will not be popular, but the reasoning behind it is that they inspired many years of railed clones, over instances, etc...

It's been like the mmo dark ages for real depth, just starting to see the light again.

No, I am not saying WoW sucks, wish it well, people can play it forever for all I care, just not my thing...

I'd definitely go with Cryptic.  It is funny, used to think they did a great job with CoH way back in the day... then the shuffle... the CO and STO.

I'd go beyond them not making another MMO - I'd take Neverwinter away from them - and ban them from making any games.

Not to leave them without jobs, I'd put them to work building highways in Arizona during the Summers and Alaska during the Winters...

I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

In my opinion, noone should be banned. For all I care, they can all present their games and let people decide if their creation is worth playing. Just because a developer or company has constant misses, doesn't mean that it won't have an eventual hit. We're denying ourselves the possibility by "banning" those who have failed in their past efforts.

Okay...how about banning Cryptic from developing for any established IPs?

It's one thing to wait to see if they can do something... it's another to watch them crap all over IPs folks like.

SOE should not be allowed to design or buy any more MMORPGs.

Any company that believes that it can distill a formula for mass-market success by looking at WoW should be banned.

I still don't get the hate over the Gamebryo engine.  There have been some nifty games made with that engine.

I would have said Funcom but they have made a ton of improvements since thier bad launch and I have a soft spot for Conan lore. SO SOE FOR SURE. greedy muthers that care nothing for their consumers.

the engine might be good for some stuff, but its completely ubfit for an mmo specialy an RvR type of gameplay, just couldnt handle what the game was supposed to be, doesnt matter how good of an implementation of i, hence a terrible choice

None. I am not negatively affected if a company makes a game.

and lets not forget AO that despite the launch issues was a helluva agame for the age. I'm inclined to agree with whoever said Garriot and McGrind maybe adding Roper thoughh at least he messed up on modest budgets unlike the other two who seem to take pride in how much money they can blow.

See, I would have liked Garriott to have gotten together with Chuckles and talk to SJ about doing Autoduel Online through the Portalarium.

I'm surprised someone hasn't replied to you yet.

You must have not played rift yet or you just didn't like rift and are refusing to acknowledge its existence as a worthy example.

RIFT... DAoC even, with an older version.

The list of titles and clients for Gamebryo is pretty...nifty.

Cryptic for the simple reason they rape beloved IPs just to get money.

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.
