Consumers are the ones feeding horrible game companies, like starvault for exemple...if consumers support a company like that then its not starvaults fault that they suck...
In your opinion, which MMO developer of any kind, should never be allowed to make future MMO titles, and why? For me, it would have to be Darkfall's developers AV, Allod and ROM's developers as well.
Darkfall was a dull attempt to make a Sandbox fantasy MMO. it had soo much hype. it reminded me of the hype levels that Warhammer had. yet failed to deliver.
Allod was too hammered down by the Itemshop focus. same for RoM. pretty great games actually, but the Itemshop and greed was a killer.
You choose Allod and RoM lol,two games that made it clear they were PTW games and cashshop rules. Why should they be banned for telling the truth from the off. I don't know where you have been for the last ten years but to not mention devs like NPCube who made Dark and Light tells me that your forum name really needs to be changed.

On many topics and replys you where always enormous fan of themeparks and agains sandbox specilly games like Darkfall sorry if i dont take your pick on AV seriously. i serious doub you would ever have played Darkfall no matter what.
Btw AV done a great job making a superb sandbox mmo for hardcore. That almost non like it is becouse there are almost no hardcore free for all fulloot fans left. So for years on end haters and trolls where negative towards Darkfall specially after 2008.
But they lack communication sure but if you dont have much money and people avaible you can't communicate constantly while you can't offer much dont blame for that.
That don't mean AV or game is bad AV is just a small indie devlopers team with not much money to do alot for game, but all you gamers dont understand this and thats sad for such a GREAT GAME.
I would go for full 100% Blizzard-greed and introduce ezmode endless grind for gear BORING.

Simple answer really, none, simply because all of them have created games that people enjoy, for me it matters allot as a gamer even if I don't like many of the current crop of games I do see others enjoying them never the less.
Pretty sad to see so many people being so selfish in a social gaming genre.
Starvault (Mortal Online if I'm mistaking the developer) - I purchased MO and knew it was an Indie company but was willing to gamble because the concept/sales pitch was appealing to me. I played a whopping 1 hour after wrangling with it during Beta. Never subbed, had the company tell me I was going to be compensated for the issues with the game a month after launch (I actually cancelled pre-launch/Beta but they didn't accept/process it), then try and charge me again (for the base game) without them actually compensating me (game access time or refunding the pre-purchase request) or even informing me. Then have had to endure spam and con attempts from them trying to get money out of me since.
Derek Smart (no clue what the company name is or the game is) - In fact I'm not even sure he's made an MMO and while I'd let those who played (are playing) it pass judgement on it. I actually feel dread just thinking of him making an MMO on the Internet and what it might do to the Internet. However, It would be an injustice to condemn him without merit or facts.
So Starvault would be who I would ban from making MMO's. I probably wouldn't stop at MMO's though, I'd ban them from Computer Games, Business and heck even the Internet. I mean thats what done with White Collar criminals that use computers to commit crimes (bar them from use of the tools they used to commit them).
After Final Fantasy 14 Online, there is no reason to ever let SQUARE make another mmo. That game is such an epic failure it isn't even funny.
- Zaxx
It's funny to see people actually acknowledge how piece of turd game FF14 is. When that crap went to OBT, I cried out rage and hatred at SquareEnix and claimed the game will fail, whether or not fanboys of FF11 believe SquareEnix needs more time to fix several? (more like infinite) bugs. The game was utter failure, and the optimization for a game going into OBT was absolutely horrible.
The game was also terribly laid out. Half the time people didn't even bother to get into the various contents the game offers? (supposedly offered) because there's basically no roadmap for anything. Not to mention the game was so stinking linear that unless you went and searched to do something yourself, which literally took a lifetime (exaggeration), you were lost for hours wondering wdf to do.
Do I have to mention how there were 1 mob per several hundred people in the fields? Redonkulous.
SquareEnix just needs to forget about making MMOs altogether. They suck, period.
Sega might pull something off with PSO2, but other than them, japanese companies just suck at making MMOs.
GRIND sucks? You wanna be max level in a month? Since when did society award easy-goers and lazy-fools? MAKES ME PHOBIC OF STUPIDITY!
Cryptic for the simple reason they rape beloved IPs just to get money.
Every company is out to get "just" money. Not sure why people always accuse companies of being greedy or just interested in making money. Talk about pointing out the obvious.
On IPs. The IP holder is responsible for whatever happens to the IP in question. Thus, they are the ones to ultimately blame for not representing an IP how you see it.
While the primary goal for an unknown amount of investors and stockholders may be to earn money, it is naive to assume that it is always true for all of them. The primary goal is not always to maximize the profit , which you implied.
Edit: Other motivations become clear specially when analyzing family businesses and businesses where the founder/s had clear non-capitalistic visions with their company.
I did not say "maximize profit" or imply it. You should ask first before assuming. However, in business, the primary goal is to make a profit. We are not talking about exceptions to the rule. We are not talking about non-profit business. We are talking about game companies or any company that needs to "eat" as it were.. They need to make money or they do not exist. This is true of all business.
If a company fails to make a profit, then the company fails in one of it's purpose to exist. Basic stuff really.
Back on topic: No company should be banned. Failure is a learning process. One title might fail, but the next could be a huge success.
It is not good to be vague either. You said "Every company is out to get "just" money. ", the word "every" automatically implies that almost all companies are supposidly out to get "just" money. The word "just" implies that this is the only goal that matters, all other goals are not even worth mentioning.
Since, according to you, their only goal of importance is to "just" get money, then why wouldn't they want to maximize the amount of money they gain in profit? It is a natural extension of your implication. Give me a logical reason why a company whose only important goal is to get money, would not try to maximize their profit?
My response, on the other hand, pointed out there may be other motivations of importance as well. So that it isn't "just" the money that matters. For instance in a family business, it may be important that the ownership of the company is kept within the family, since it may have been there for generations; a sense of obligation. It is not hard to imagine, that the family are even willing to let the company go a year with loss, just to keep the company within the family.
None. The only thing in MMOs I would ban is the practice of chance to fail cash shop items. Gambling with real money has no place in MMOs. So I'd ban Perfect World and a few others until they changed their cash shop practices, which they immediately would rather than lose access to their customers.
I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.
Originally posted by Destai Starvault. I don't need to say why. Square Enix. Can we just be done with Final Fantasy? Please?
100% agreed with Square. 90% disagree with Starvault.
And here is the difference, at least in my opinion...
Square has the resources, the gaming experience, and the ability to get the right experienced employees in their offices to make a great mmo. And what do they come up with as of late? FF14? This has to be like the worst game play in any mmo I've ever played.
While Mortal Online wasn't much better then FF14, I can play in their world. I can at least see what they were trying to accomplish here. And I highly respect what they DID accomplish considering their lack of resources, manpower, and funds. Mortal Online is easy to play and see that what was made was made from their hearts. It is very easy to see that they put in tons of hours of hard dedicated work, likely underpaid work, and tried to make a new 3D world with old school Ultima Online style game play mechanics.
What the hell was Square trying to accomplish by comparison?
I respect Starvault even though they don't have the resources to make their dream a reality. I disrespect Square for having the resources and putting out a total POS like FF14.
Big difference. And with that I really hope that Starvault gets the funds needed to make their dream a reality. If they only had more funds, I really believe that if they held true to their vision.. Mortal Online could be absolutely INCREDIBLE.
Imagine if you would if only Square had invested all the tens of millions they wasted on FF14 instead on Mortal Online, some guys with real heart and a gamer's desire to make a game for gamers by gamers. If Square had only invested that 100 million (or whatever they spent on FF14) into Starvault and let turn their dream a reality with the resources Mortal Online needs... both Starvault and Square could have "won" with much more success then how it worked out as it is. But the REAL winners if only that had happened would be the customers. You and I. - Hey, just a thought, hehe. ;-)
As long as EA never have full, direct control over the development of an MMO, I'll be good, thanks. The light touch they appear to have over TOR is enough to make me cautious about buying it even just for the free month.
Stereotypical female I know, but I'm a long term Sims player on the side, and since they bought out the franchise it's gone completely down the pan. I'd rather pay for a whole game, not half of one wit the rest of it boxed up in overpriced chunks online. God help any SW:TOR players if they sink their claws any deeper into Bioware.
There should be no banned companies. Even if the screw up titles, you never know and they might do something right. If they mess an MMO up, who cares, just don't play. But if they hit the jackpot (which the odds are increased the more companies that are producing MMOs) then everyone will be happy.... well not everyone because there are plenty of people who relish being negative... but you get my meaning, i hope.
Square - No way. FFXI is a very good product. FFXIV just sucks as it is now, but if word is to be beleaved, things might be better. This shows Square is actually a VERY GOOD developer
how the hell am I supposed to feel smugly superior to all you guys if there's no more bad games to bash or no more people wallowing in despair about the future of the genre?

I would have to say blizzard and SOE. my reason as why to blizzard. is they never tried to stick to one formula. instead of taking what they had that worked and adding to it. they removed it and fudged it up and stamped it as a new feature. for being the largest MMO on the planet they never used any of the 1 billion dollars a year to add anything new but pure re-hash of content and broken mechanics that persist even today.
They lacked any kind of orginal vision for WOW and they continue to crank out nerfs to almost every aspect of the game.
SOE has been a company that the president owner, has done nothing but piss-off the MMO community to the point of commiting murder. smedly has been in the forefront of some of the most botched and worst design decisions ever made in MMO history. he always had greed in mind first and players last. his company has payed for his bad decisions and attempts to make more money off of loyal players and he's the collector of once hopefull games that he has driven in to the ground.
