And I can finally post here again...hehehe.
Been playing closed beta for months. Have leveled a Marauder, Juggernaut, Assassin and Power Tech BH to mid 30's - 40's.
The game is goddamn FUN.
It is like a good book that you can't put down. This thing will devour your life.
Yeah, it's got a few flaws...but I fully expect those to be addressed in the future (can we say...entire re-write of the space combat system?)
I've tested on PVP servers (FUN!!!) and PVE servers. I will definately be rolling on a PVP server at launch. The world PVP once you get to Nar Shadda and beyond is a blast. There's nothing like running a quest with a group and running into a group of republic scum, and having a battle break out that lasts for the next hour or so. Or being solo, and finding out how many of them you can kill before they finally take you down.
I'll tell you straight up...the first couple worlds feel kind of small. This would be specifically the starting planet for each class, and then the faction capital for each side. After that, it slowly starts to open up. Nar Shadda seems endless....Tattooine seems like it wants to be bigger than it is, and by the time you get to Alderaan you're going to be bitching that it takes too long to get anywhere because the place is so massive.
But one of the things that really keeps me playing is the combat. It's fast paced (no whacking on the same mob for ten minutes), and you do feel rather bad-ass when you mow down a dozen mobs, or solo an elite with perfect timing and combos. But don't let this fool you.....get careless, and you are dead. In fact, this game seems to excel at waiting until you're entirely too comfortable, and then reminding you that you are mortal.
Yeah, this is a themepark game....in the strictest sense of the word. But for some reason that doesn't seem to bother me. Maybe it's because I am so wrapped up in the stories, and the black-hole immersiveness that I forget that I'm playing a game. The mechanics seem transparant (especially since I use a Razer Naga mouse) and the real world just disappears.
So....after months of testing, I can honestly say that I'm not burned out, and don't expect to be any time soon. In fact, I'm just looking forward to launch so I can finally stop having to re-roll every build

24 more days, so painful. The weekend betas are just a tease. Wararg0ul you should throw up a Twitch.tv feed for us and post it so we all can envy you for a few weeks.
But it's been so much fun watching you all squirm
Yea Whar rub it in hahaha.

I bet.
Well at least my time defending Swtor was well spent if impressions like yours end up being the common denominator for most players.

The ammount of positive things I read about this game makes me very hopeful.
Good impression Whar...
Lately I can't bring myself to log in though, I'm so tired of rolling and rerolling just to have to reroll again. Waiting for the high level server to go up so I can finish testing and get some high level world PvP content going (hopefully I'll be able to record some for all you open world PvP fans.... or critics).
I've been getting in my skyrim time before release though, so its good to get that out of the way
Whaaa?!
I thought it was only for a month at max that each tester was allowed to test??
With maybe a call back for a second time, but not months at a stretch.

Great review, and everything you posted is the exact way I experienced it too in the limited amount of time I got to play last weekend. Particularly in regards to the combat, which I found to be a lot of fun.
I agree with the OP. Been beta testing fsince September of 2010, over a year now.
I played mostly troopers specced to commando and jedi Knights. Also played the smuggler and Consular to at least lvl 20 each. Never played imps yet, saving that for release. I have played on the PvP servers and think they are a blast, the PvE servers are almost as much fun.
I love 90% plus of this game, crafting has shaped up nicely, and the storyline and world creation is fantastic. My biggest gripe is the space combat. I find it a snooze fest f but still do it because of the good exp and it is a change of pace, don't expect much of a challange there. There are a few things I would change if I could but I give the game a B+.
I miss DAoC
I get that same feeling when playing, people may say theyw ill only do their class quest but when you see how they did every quest in this game, and how they all run into each other, you will feel likw you are watching the movie of you, of hour your charcater lived in the universe of TOR, you dont feel like acommo foot soldier thats for sure. Or some hired interchangable thug.

Each build has lasted roughly a month, with about a 2 week span between builds when the servers were down for deployment (pure agony.....I cannot express it). Most closed beta testers were re-invited from build to build.
I just want into this game so I can find Dark Pony, and 1v1 him. I have no problems with the dark pony, however when I have no photoshop skills and his skills are impressive I need to take my jealousy out somehow!
Essentially some testing squads were given almost a free pass depending on when they got in. For example, when I got in, they specified straight up that they wanted us to get AT LEAST one character to max level, and that we would be testing for an undetermined amount of time - which has turned into - we're testing until the servers go down for launch.
Yeah, I've taken this last week off to play Skyrim non-stop. But it's time to hop back onto my BH and roast some fools with my flamethrower

Don't worry pony, I'll just wait until you're bored, you're waiting for something to spawn, and then *WHOOOM WHOOOM* Of course knowing my luck, none of your characters will be Dark Pony, and there will be more than one PVP server... sad possiblities
Been in for a year now and I totally agree with the OP.
My squadron was the first invited back as a whole to the following builds and most of us are still playing err testing for those with longetivity questions.
While it's certainly not the best part of the game and not ideal, I actually enjoy the space combat. The first couple missions are tutorialish, but the later missions take full advantage of the tunnel shooter(vs. rail shooter) aspect. Those asteroids coming at you? Yes, you HAVE to avoid them or you take heavy damage...
I'd say my number 1 complaint is body types. You have scrawny, thin, tall and hulking, and fat. I don't think a set of sliders is necessary, but I want a LOT more than just 4 body types in which I'd only consider 2. Just offering more than WoW is not enough, these days. The limited number of faces, I can understand. Facial expressions and lip synch are more work than they'd seem, and far more necessary in this game than other MMO's. But the body types... I don't know of any excuse for that.
But yeah, there's so much to love about this game... and it's a game that's easy to play for 10+ hours at a time. To have all the cutscenes and story to help you decompress after tons and tons of pew-pewing... I thought I'd get sick of all the dialogue, but o far, after probably 100+ hours playing, I still let it play out.
The starter worlds are small, but not small for starter worlds. As I've mentioned in another thread, TOR's starter worlds, where you level to 8, or almost to 10 counting group missions, are almost the size of the whole Bree map in LotRO.
Not for me my squadron (238) has been going for quite a while now, think we're on our third testing build so far.

Indeedily doodily. Some beta test keys are for weekends, only. Some(like mine) are pretty much for the whole duration(including weekdays), except when they have the servers down for BIG patches.
I don't know how you guys stay interested knowing you're going to lose all your progress, that's why I avoid beta's entirely these days.
But glad to see that the long term appeal is strong, makes it likely I'll enjoy it when I finally join the world.

the combat was good. I was really concerned watching all the videos that were available before the beta weekend that combat was going to be very bad, it was one of those things that watching it didn't do it justice, you had to actually experience. I did just that and very glad I got to.
Yeah this is true (the first part), I've been trying to limit the amount I test, months of access can certainly wear the experience thin before launch. Haven't touched many world quests (stories) at all trying to save them for launch.

This is true. Pretty much once you got into a test build, you kept getting reinvited to the subsequent builds.
