    ..........To eloborate;

PERSONALLY i don't like where this is going. The more people buy this crappy stuff, the more the devs are gonna keep releasing it and cater to ''their needs''.

BUT its THEIR money, so why does it bother me? I dont think that every singe ''f2p'' currently on the market is ''p2p'' ALAS i beleive if it keeps on going the way it does now, it can get out of hand.

Haha, the little mmo gamer in me is scared that soon all mmo's will turn into f2p models, and soon all those fp2 games will actually become pay-to-win games, depriving me some of my favourite pastimes :D

(Yes, the devs/publishers have the right to release it, people have the right to buy it, and i have the right to post my opinions about it:p)

If it's your contention that F2P encourage this type of behavior then you are just plain wrong.  Marketers will always look for new ways to deliver goods for a price and will always attempt to get the most for their products.  F2P is just the latest iteration.

Actually im not into the cash shop stuff for most part. that said i have no issue with free 2 play. I dont belive its all crap anymore either there are some pretty well made free 2 play games out there

From forsaken world to dcu which is really a hybrid not a true free 2 play model to d and d and lotro.

i actually think the more games go hybrid the more the quality of free to play games has to improve. Players wont spend in a cash shop just cause a game is free.

to get players to spend money and play your game u have to make at least a pretty good game. There are good free 2 play publishers out there the key is to find the ones that make the best games.

I perfer tp play pay 2 playr titles. That said runes of magic and forsaken world are pretty good examples of pretty good free 2 play games that are wll made not every free 2p lay title is trash even though those types of free 2 play game still exist.

Yes, marketers will always look for new ways to deliver their goods for a price,

and yes, they will always attempt to get most for their products.

and also yes; f2p is just the latest iteration of that.

And this development is seemingly (to ME, at least) pushing the envelope twords a ''pay to win'' curve.

So im afraid fp2 is encouring p2w, BUT BOTH ft2 and its resulting p2w tendencies are (NATURALLY) caused by marketers will to deliver their goods for maximum profit.

And i dont like it, neither do i like when the price of gas goes up too high, but i cant really do anything about it either, well except mentioning my dislike when the subject pops up here and there - and guess thats what im doing here; about f2p.

Narcs, millionaires, and millionaires taht are stupid also play mmos, so yeah they can waste 1k euros in a virtual item.

everyone has their own way of wasting money. I would try to be wise when spending so much money but IF i had to WASTE 1k euro it would be something nasty, kinky and dirty like..... i dunno, maybe buy a minivan and do like the bangbros? LOL

way better wasted money than a cash shop

    just saying hehehe

F2P may give developers more avenues for things like that but those types of games don't usually last as long as the quality games.  You have to understand, there have ALWAYS been bad games which are developed bad and will eventually fail.

The greatest things F2P has done is to increase the amount of product in the market and give gamers another payment type for their gaming habits.

Everything has bad with the good, in this case, there is overwhelming good vs the bad.

Another case of someone blaming the business model for what a company does. I find it funny that people refer to the ones buying the virtual goods as "stupid" when I feel that people who are willing to call others that based on what they spend their money on are just as so. I am pretty sure if someone looked down your purchases in life that they will find things that they believe you are stupid for buying. Like Alcohol or Cigarettes just to name some common examples.

The service provided for the 1,000 euros is in no way near worth 1,000, or 2 million for that matter. The cost to implement this in their games was probably close to a day's work for a 3D artist to design the look of that drone (is it a spaceship?). When you're playing these F2P games, you either pay up to compete with the competition, or play for free. When a company adds an item like this the player either needs to give up their competition, and thus (partially) the investment they made in their game or pay this ridiculous prize.

I really wonder if something can be done about the morales of such a company. This isn't smart business, this is doing business without morale, plain and simple.

Of course it is worth 1,000 to the 2k people that purchased it.  If it wasn't "worth" it they wouldn't have.  This is how a market economy works, it is worth what people are willing to pay.

I don't think so. I don't think people are paying that money just to have that item, most want to keep up with the competition.

But see, I don't think it's worth 2k either, but to the people buying it, it is worth that price.  That is the way market economics works.  We can debate whether or not its a good thing but people are only willing to pay for something if it is "worth" it.  Now if we are talking strictly based on the cost associated with producing a good, then selling it, I would definitely agree that it didn't take that much effort to produce that ship, but that is called profit, and capitalism.

And I am sure that at the end of the receipt for those stupid items, it likely totals much more than a thousand Euros.  I know mine does.

I think the gambler Canada Bill Jones said it best, "It is morally wrong to allow a sucker to keep his money."

Why the hostile attitude with F2P?

Is Team Fortress2 a bad game now?

We've been buying virtual goods for how long now?

Whether it is a song from Itunes or a month sub on an MMO, not seeing the negative issues with F2P.

    upon individual

Of those 2000 10th drone sales, there most definately will be a chunk of players who will regret their purchase or get into rl trouble because of it. In that sense it's much like casino's / gambling and maybe minors shouldn't be allowed to play it.

Yet it should be free for every adult individual to spend their money the way they want; buying a 500k sports car or 40k watch is arguably a waste of money too; virtual goods are goods just the same.

Personally I'd rather cut of my leg with a rusty bread knife than play a game where player to player balance is determined by the size of one's wallet or the willingness to open it or not, though.

    No, Pay2win games are repulsive.

Not all F2P games are this bad, not by a longshot. Besides, P2P games with RMTs are repulsive as well.

*Sigh*, I must be getting old, I missed when I just bought a box and payed 10 or 15 bucks a moth and that was it to get access to the entire game. Now they push mounts and crap as well.

Now a days when you enter a mmo for first time you already have mount uber gear and alot of fluff before you even have start playing lol.

Ya sure you do, and a pebbles the size of the death star too.

So?  If they have the money, why should you even care?  What business is it of yours?  People spend $30,000 on a Rolex watch or a Gucci handbag - should we ban that?

Anyway, what has this got to do with F2P in general?  I was expecting a thread saying F2P was a bad thing, yet you QQ about virtual goods instead.  Get a life.

Don't tell me what I must do.

I don't play this game. I posted this because I believe this to be the biggest scam in the F2P model yet. Someone else mentioned the sale in Entropia of an item for a few 100k, but those games, like Second Life also allow you to earn money back. The money spend on items in Entropia is not going to the owners of Entropia Universe, but to the person who made that item. (At least that's how I understand how these games work).

Buying virtual items is not the same as all the products you are mentioning. You own nothing, and at any given time MMO companies can revoke what you have, ban your account, or simply file for bankruptcy. Entering any game these days requires you to sign contracts, where people have to give up all their rights.

Why worry about how other people spend their money? Yeah its wasteful, but there's more legit concerns about the world's finances.

I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.

I honestly think complainers, coveters, and whiners are the biggest strain on the reputation of MMO gamers.

Mind your business. Play the game. Enjoy what you have and can afford. WIsh the best to those who have what they have.

    Stop bitching?

    That'd fix MMOs over night.

I am pretty sure you see, hear and read a lot more immoral things every day where you do not bat an eyelid. Bitching about how and where people are allowed to spend their money when it comes to video game is the most trivial thing you can worry about.

All it takes for evil buisiness models to triumph, is for good gamers to stop bitching...

I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

Leaving babies to starve to death or spending ridiculous amount of money to get the dopamine fix is far worse than any whiners.

Banking, stocks, hospitals, and that stuff. Sure.

    Video games?

Why worry? Why put so much energy in other people's business? Are you that insecure about life?
