Personally I wont play either but why would anyone play WoW over SW:TOR?
WoW has lots and lots of more PvE and PvP content. So why not play Everquest if content is what matters?
Blizzard > Bioware (when it comes to MMORPGs) To soon to state such as Bioware isn't even on the market yet.
Single player storylines Other MMO's have them too, you just don't notice because everyone skips the dialogue.
Orcs and Dragons
SW:TOR arcade space mini game Thats like nit picking WoW for a mini game
EA Bioware is in charge
Lucas Arts Why would this work against Star Wars?
Why switch from the real thing to a clone? Then why not play EQ?
I am sure alot of WoW players will play SW:TOR but just like any other new triple A Themepark, most of them will go back to WoW in 3-6 months.
People treat a lot of these topics too black and white. Like many others have stated the big thing WoW has at retaining players is "Time". So many trashy games launched over the years that WoW was able to retain players that put so much time into their characters, guilds and communities that they will most likely be with WoW until Titan. many WoW players would say Content but it's not the content, it's the time, as WoWs failure to release quality content is why they are losing subs.
Edit: Furthermore I think if someone who currently plays WoW played SWTOR for a significant period, it would be more difficult to cope with older games as Voice Overs are going to be a big part of future games. GW2 & Secret World will host some and after SWTORs success I see many future games adding it to some degree.
Everything I say is my opinion or personal preference. You may or may not find it useful to your cause but regardless I am entitled to it.

Some people are just new to the MMO gaming World must school them.
I'm playing WoW right now.... only because I got a free 7 days perfect timing it ends in the 15th lol, don't get me wrong Wow has been good to me over the last 6 years but there comes a time where ever gamer must move on, I did it 4 times over the last 12 years of MMO gaming, every dawn has its day for people and the Sun went down for me in June.... my dusk will be on Dec 13th the 20th for a fact.....

How many servers SWTOR will launch with on release?
ShredderSE - Umm how many do they need? Maybe 6. US, EU, Asian, France, German and Russian. Subs will be so low there is no need for more Snoocky-How many servers? The first 3 months a lot...after that 2 i guess, one for PVE and 1 for PVP...
Thorbrand - SWTOR doesn't have longevity at all. Might be one of the shortest lived MMOs.
After playing GW2 for two years running at GamesCom and then testing clone wars with voices,i know why i wont be playing clone wars with voices.Got that that clone wars with voices from a poster on the swtor forums,i think it sums the game up nicely.

After eating at Ruth's Chris why would anyone eat at Ryan's?
Look at it like this, after years with the same car, there comes a time where your trusty old car needs to be turned in for a new one, one can sell that old car or keep it but the fact remains you want something new even thought there was nothing really wrong with the old car other then it just being old and played out, same goes for a wife...im joking on the wife thing god I hope she doesn't read the forums lol

Because I dislike Star Wars. The movies are fairy tales for children and that is what I associate with Star wars. Give me Grimm and Grittty Science Fiction, like Blade Runner, Aliens, Neuromancer.
Huh? The whole MMORPG genre is a fairytale.
AFI was Star Wars as 15th for top US movies in history. It must really suck to have the 15th best movie in US history.

"I'll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up! Not me!"
This ^^. WoW has lasted seven years and still has a long way to go. Why? Because it offers freedom and choice. SWTOR offers neither. I think it will be P2P inside one year and closed down inside two.
Ah, the psychics this site breeds, really, Nostradamus has nothing on them Don't confuse wishful thinking for actual solid predictions. We'll see how things will be for SWTOR and WoW in the course of 2012 although from the decline that WoW is experiencing already, it doesn't look that good, although it's nice to see a number of people who've been bashing WoW for years on this site - not you - now rush as white knights to WoW's defense. If you really hate/dislike SWTOR that much, simply move on to an MMORPG you do enjoy, this is clearly not the MMO you're looking for then.
Ah, the blind lemmings, members of the rat family, who rush madly to defend the indefensible and throw themselves off cliffs in the process. Your solid predications are as solid as mine - except for you they're the fantasies that keep you going. I've seen SWTOR, I've played it and, like real gamers at Gamasutra, IGN and plenty of other credible sites, I know this is a very limited game. And you know what, I'm not 'simply going to move on'. I'm going to stay here and tell people thinking about buying this game that they shouldn't buy into the hype of people like you who, for one reason or another, are madly invested in getting them to jump off the cliff after you. They should save their money and wait. When launch comes, we'll see which one of us was right. Now, tell us how wonderful in every way SWTOR is again.
Lemmings aren't jumping off of cliffs. It's a myth. Their population cycle is very dramatic though and every third or fourth year the population is unsustainable so there's a very large die off. They think the myth might have come from there being so many lemmings at some point that someone witnessed them getting pushed off a cliff someplace, but they don't do the whole run off of cliffs thing. This explanation is unlikely though because lemmings are actually solitary creatures and for there to be so many that they were getting pushed off a cliff, everyone else in Norway would have noticed that there was no place to move because of all the lemmings. It's more likely just a story to explain the mass number of lemmings being missing (dead).
SWToR compares very favorably to WoW. It doesn't make WoW 'bad', just very dated. Bioware can catch up with the quantity of content that WoW has. They have already exceeded the quality of content. I don't want to jinx anything, but it would be really hard for Bioware to mess this up.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
To say that TOR already has more content than WoW when it hasn't even launched yet is very misinformed.
As great as TOR looks theres many reasons somebody would choose to play WoW over it.
1. Its a launch game. Games at launch are usually hyped, laggy and crowded, yes i know TOR had a smooth beta but nobody can anticipate launch, some like to let the dust settle.
2. Sci fi fantasy vs high fantasy. So TOR doesn't have elves, which may be a blessing to some MMO fans out there. It also doesn't have all the quirky races that other games have because it wanted to keep that 'heroic' feel and make sure the voice acting fit the character you play, the voice acting is an amazing thing but also a limitation in the long run for people who may have wanted to play a Rodian etc.
3. No flying mounts. You can't fly in TOR, except in space, and thats not in the open world, thats an instanced rail shooter. Some people like the freedom of soaring through an open world.
4. Currency. This boils down to aesthetics really, some people would rather be dealing in gold and shiny items rather than Republic credits.
5. Professions. TOR's system looks interesting and id love to try it, but for a lot of players who love to craft i can't speak for all of them but i can see it feeling impersonal to them and not as hands on as they should like. Also the professions don't look all that interesting in TOR whilst WoW has all sorts of interesting, quirky things you can whisk up.
6. Less classes. I know they branch out at level 10, and then you specialise, so its a class within a class but its still 4 classes in comparison to WoWs ten followed by 3 specialisations through talents.
Im sure theres more but any more i risk sounding like a WoW fanboi when i am just trying to be unbias and logical. In conclusion, it comes down to aesthetics and the players own interests. Eve is one of the best options for sandbox players in the market, so why don't all sandbox players play it? Because they don't want to be in space limited to the confines of a ship, they want to be in a fantasy world where they can roam the open lands, just like how not everyone wants to be in that galaxy far, far away.
actually they are jumping of cliffs, not to kill themselves tho, but to get into the water for migration purposes (eg, when a population grows too big)
:>
"I'll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up! Not me!"
LoL, WoW have almost 7 years in the market, with how many expansions?. Swtor is not even out, and still is an amazing game, can you imagine swtor with few Updates and expansion?, guess not, but dont worry u will have the kunfu panda/ pokemon expansion soon enough.
back to topic, after the last beta, i just cant play any other MMO in the market anymore.
LOL. You know I actually was contemplating going back and playing wow and also having a subscript with TOR. One fantasy and one sci-fi but when I read and seen the new expansion coming out I just forget it. Between the stupid motorcycle mount and Kung Fu Panda the only thing Blizzard is missing at this point is Jack Blacks voice over yelling Skaaa Doosch. Guess I will just have Rift as my Fantasy game until a new worth while fantasy game comes out.
I dont currently play or even like WoW, but I really can't understand all this angst about a Panda race. I mean really, the game has had cow people for how long? And lots of other animal humanoids as NPCs. What makes Pandarens more rediculous than the existing world? The motorbike has been in the game for quite a while too, since Northrend I believe.
WoW has always been childish. Some people liked that, some people didnt. But claiming that it started being childish with MoP is just... mind boggling. I think all the kids playing WoW just suddenly got a reality check that they arent as mature as they would like to think that they are.

I've not played WoW since the Cataclysm beta, but what I will say;
I think the World is much better designed in World of Warcraft. WoW is a themepark and it's zoned, but it's extremely large, and it's not very restricted.
In contrast, playing SWTOR... felt very underwhelming. It was a hard blow to play on Corosaunt. They simply did a poor job with that. And it's so linear and restrictive. Even as a themepark, they could have made it, so much better. It literally was more like playing KOTOR (Taris upper levels).
Also I think, as many have said... WoW was a very diverse game. It had all sorts of themed zones, and with it's day night cycle you got a world that feels insanely more alive.
Furthermore, the games races like Tauren, Gnome and Undead, and all the others, had their own animations, dances, looks, emotes which was multiplied by two due to the gender. I do not think that TOR having 4 bodytypes across all it's races that is identical is a worthy substitute, mainly because I think only Bodytype 2 is not stupid. Well, I like the fat one too (bodytype 4).
I cant say i care much for the pve in wow.........and im probably missing out because people say pve is a strong point of the game...... I do however love to pvp .Even though its pretty carebear and like a FPS more so than a hardcore pvp mmo ...its still very fun. Some people hate the art direction and the glowing big shoulder pads.....imo these are strong factors and things i like about the game.
When it comes to swtor.......i am absolutely blown away by how i was thrown into an epic story when questing.... I usually dont care for story in games i just want to level so i can pvp but bioware really have made questing what wow or any other mmo never could
I will still play wow...and lineage 2....and eve.......and now swtor.
All very different games for very different reasons....... I dont see why because swtor is born you have to hate on another game and say it will be doomed . People are obviously playing it for a reason....and i will continue to play wow because no other game will ever be wow no matter how many clones exist.
