Not trying to rain on your parade and I a delighted some game atleast is pulling that iron claw Blizzard has away, but the game is missing some pretty basic stuff. Lets give it a month.

Story presentation is pretty cool I must admit.

Glad you like it, but even if SWTOR catches on, it's really not going to change much in the industry.

  • KotatsuKotatsu Member Posts: 57

Its not going to add or change anything in this industry. We're just along for the ride and then its on to the next attraction. It was decent but I didn't drop a bunch of money to build this nice rig and play a game that has the same old low grade look of older MMOs.

TOR will catch on because most gamer nerds generally love star wars lol. Your right though, TOR won't change a thing for the genre. In fact its making it worse off then it already was...

Yeah.... the game is good, but really doesn't introduce anything new to the genre.

The only thing that might see a change will be WoW's subscriber numbers.  Oh snap!

All I know is it's going to be tough pulling me away from this.  It's a blast.  And it's not even released yet.  I don't know what else the industry can do to make it even better.  An MMO is an MMO.  Either it captivates the audiance, is fun, and appealing or  it becomes F2P with an item mall and thrown in the 5 dollar bin at wallmart.  Either way, I'm so glad I found this game.  I'm so tired of the Elves, gnomes, dwarves, warrior, mage, type MMOS.

The issue happens and the reason THERE ARE so many haters and doubters. OK Story great...awesome...SWEET!! wtf happens when the story ends

Alot of us do not want to get invested in a game where the comments in a month are..."well story was great, but end game is WoW"...byeee hurrr derr

There is very little money in developing super high graphics MMOs. The average player does not have a $2000 computer. Hell, i'll bet many of them dont even have a clue what they do have.

It's nothing new, if you've done the gear grind before you've essentially done it in ToR. The crafting adds a little flavor, but certainly not enough for a monthly. And no the voice acting isn't enough either.

This is changing everything in your opinion? No offense but I don't see it, and neither does Bioware as they've stayed pretty much on the path of least resistance with the game play (carrot on stick) they chose to incorporate.

I'm ready to hit my 4th planet, and it does not feel MMO.

I agree. If peeople are looking for a graphically intense MMO, then good luck.  If they made one, the only people that would be plaing is the people who spend thousands on making their computer run Skynet.  I think Blizzards success was to be able to play WoW on anything.  Heck, you could practically play WoW on a 486DX.

Korean MMOs look better and are meant to run on lower end computers. So, there is no excuse.

It's changed playing F2P item mall crappy asian MMO's and World of Warcraft which I am sooo burnt out on.  It's not Orcs and fantasy.  That's good enough for me.  I'm over the whol fantasy land.  A good Star Wars theme game fixed my crack addiction.

I agree, for some reason I've lost all motivation to do quests at all already. I'm always queued up for the BG's and everytime I try to do some quests my queue pops up and it stops me all the time. Hell I already have enough coins to buy level 50 pvp gear already. Funny thing is, when I run my BG's, I would just send my companion on some mission to collect crafting gear.

This is because I am sure you have played many theme park mmos before and are probably burned out of the same ol sh*t... This is exactly why I didnt play it, and I suspect many, many more will be joining me over the next couple of months out of boredom...

I think when every MMO you play is boring it's time to look for a different genre.

I think when every MMO you play is boring it's time to troll others who still think that playing WoW 0.5 in space is fun cause it's got voices. ZOMG!

More power to you, I hope you enjoy your time there. Having been through this style/type of game before in WoW and Rift, I personally am not willing to go through it again no matter how Elf-free it is.

    Good luck and have fun.

What Bioware has done that may in fact have an impact on the industry is taken the "grind" out of leveling.

The story aspects make the leveling process almost painless.

And this is my fifth time though the game, after months of playing, so don't even give me that "oh yeah...well, give it a month" line.

I've said it before, and here I go again....there is NOTHING that could make the people on this site happy. They are determined to grip and pick apart ANY game, no matter how good it is.....so don't let them get to you OP.

I share your enthusiasm. SWTOR is a great game. Don't let this site poison your experience.

Not trying to derail the thread, but....isn't that exactly what Rift's endgame is?  So why isn't it okay for TOR to have a similar endgame?  And TOR is releasing with more of an endgame than most MMOS, including Rift, did.

    Just sayin'...

To me it felt more like playing Warhammer all over again. Run BG's level up, get pvp points/coins, and stay queued. Hell they even got some quests for you to run BG's and you get rewarded handsomely. Everything you want can be attained through that. Plus having your companion run around and pick up crafting materials for you, you really dont have to leave anywhere. Stay at the spaceport, pick up BG quests and level up right there without killing anything.

I've never really been apart of a major themepark MMO, with that in mind bear with me. Do people actually play simply to attain gear? I just find that hard to believe, considering what do you do with gear in a game you do not enjoy playing?

I always look back to SWG when I hear things like this and think, all I did was PVP, didn't care about earning anything from it, didn't care about winning, losing etc.. I simply liked playing with my guild and pvping. Of course a part of that is attaining usable gear that kept you competitive, which was fun in it's own right because I was usually doing so with a guildie or two.

Now looking at the system TOR is applying to PVP, I earn my gear by PVPing, if that's why I play and it kept me as well as my guild playing SWG for years (most didn't really do much crafting or anything else besides PVp in my guild), why would TOR not offer us what we're seeking? I have to point out TOR has far more PVP options/content than SWG ever had while we were playing (pre-nge).
