SWTOR endgame = awesome Open World PvP

SatariousSatarious Member UncommonPosts: 1,073

This is what I'm looking forward to the most.  No amount of new content could possibly compete with the forever changing dynamic, player-driven wars.

Quoted from the Old Republic Blog:  "We have an entire team dedicated to adding content and features to player vs. player. We have some of the most experienced PvP developers in the world on this team. So far very few people have seen, or know much about the stunning Open World PVP on Ilum; when you get to the high levels prepare to be blown away! In addition to that high level PVP content, expect new Warzones and new PvP features on a regular basis."

Yeah, he is really confident about all that.

So much that people will hold mister Dallas Dickinson personally accountable if it ends up being shallow / bland / boring after a few weeks.

Kudo's that he dares putting his reputation on the line though.

Sounds good but developers dont know what fun pvp is.

Those ''experienced pvp Devs'' also worked on WoW and Rift.

    Yawn.

Erm... what an absolutely PERFECT example of wishful thinking...

This reminds me the crap that dev guy was saying about WAR.... and WAR had/has tons more PvP features than TOR has :)

Look where it is now though.

    ..Cake..

Lots of former Mythic Daoc designers on the team, as well.  And many considered daoc's open world pvp to be the best ever for an mmo.

So who knows what fun PVP is? how can you define 'fun'? considering it is such a subjective thing?

Weeeelll ... seeing how former Mythic devs have been working on the pvp side of things, you'd hope that they've LEARNED from their mistakes with WAR.

It would surprise me if Illum ends up stimulating people to avoid the other faction and focus on killing a couple of npc's to complete objectives without a hassle like RVR in WAR did.

I should hope they learned from THAT mistake.  The biggest reason WAR failed was because they put too much faith in instances.  The whole treadmill thing with instances mixed with open world pvp objectives was just stupid.  Here's to hoping they don't make that mistake again.

DAOC's big selling point on the PVP front was the RvRvR .. battlegrounds.. which...  in one form or another has pretty much become the standard PVP fare for most fantasy MMO's since..  can even argue that Planetsides triple sided PVP is even based on it..  WoW's PVP battlegrounds is probably even based on DAOC's.. and like SW;TOR is also missing the 3rd faction that makes such battlegrounds more interesting/challenging. somehow.. i think people will be playing SW;TOR for the story rather than the PVP.image

So for a game that has spent so much money and time in hyping this game up why would they leave these amazing PvP features out of the spotlight if there so amazing?

And why have so very few people seen it?

So typical of a game company saying "expect new Warzones and new PvP features on a regular basis" right after the launch, they need to give you hope for you to stick around for another month lol.

If this Open World PvP on llum is so epic why has no one heard a single thing about it?

    That's what I asked a few months ago too. My guess is that they;

    1. Started relatively late with adding it. They could since its pretty much a stand-alone aspect of a game and those particular devs were still working on other projects say, 2 years ago.

    2. They went through a few itterations of their world pew pew systems and didn't finish up the last one in time to use it in (more) extensive marketing efforts.

They don't exactly need it ready on day 1.  After all, in order for open world pvp to be fun, it needs lots of participants.  There will be those few who max out in level in less than a month, but the vast majority won't max out until 2-3 months down the road.  That gives them plenty of time to implement it just when the right amount of people are ready to roll.

Because it wasn't open for testing and they were still working on it and i am sure they still are to get ready for launch. Once players hit 50 we will see how it pans out.

Sure thats a good way to spin it but thats not the case.

90% of gamers who pre order to get head start level as fast as they can.

There will be 100k players at lvl cap before the game is even released to the public.

And in that statment he says "So far very few people have seen, or know much about the stunning Open World PVP on Ilum; when you get to the high levels prepare to be blown away!  So is it ready or is it a pipe dream you make the call.

Sorry but you don't make statments like that if it wasn't ready yet.

And how come they didn't let anyone test this Stunning Open World PvP?

Warhammer thought they had stunning PvP and they even let people test it lol...

Blah blah blah its all hype to give people hope once they realise theres nothing left to do after two weeks except reroll and do the same quests and cutscenes over again.

People really need to stop pulling numbers out of ..you know where, to make a point.

Who knows why they didn't want to open lvl 50 illum PVP content for everyone? maybe they had their reasons? i for one wouldn't want to spoil lvl 50 content and would rather enoy it at release. Warhammer was a PVP game and their PVP started from very first level it is not same as opening lvl 50 planet for everyone. They had testers to test illum but it was never an open testing. And i am glad it stayed that way.

They don't have anything to prove though since people will soon be 50 and check it out for themselves.

It would be kind of stupid for Bioware to hang their hat on hype alone.  They want to actually  hold on to their subscribers.  That's the key to having a successful MMO.  You have to hold on to your subscribers for 6+ months and then grow from there.  I have no doubt that Bioware is sincere in their efforts to make open world pvp a roaring success in this game.  I think they're well aware that it's absolutely vital that the endgame needs to be compelling.   And I can tell they have a lot of daoc folks on the team because, to them, open world pvp is the endgame.  WoW, on the other hand, always took the approach of just adding more content and paid little mind to open world pvp.

They dont have to. The amount of fanboys is pretty huge so you can feed them horse shit and they will still ask for more and worship the game. I can tell you that the World PVP aspect will fail here just like most of the other games that tried it. Why do world pvp when u can do instances that generaly reward you more and 2 way open world pvp kinda sucks compared to 3 way or clan based like Lineage for example. But lets hope that they get it right in the openworld aspect.

Remember that the strongest aspect of the game is the voice acting and story so do not think that the open world will be as good as DOAC or anywhere near.

Why because you have a hunch? sorry that is not convincing enough for everyone to start thinking that open pvp won't be fun. A themepark MMO can have both good PVE and open world PVP content.

DAOC is three faction RvR thats why it's so good, Warhammer is two faction RvR and thats why it was horrible. Every server in SWTOR will have the same fate as Warhammer with unbalanced PvP.

The reason why I'm not playing SWTOR is because as far as i know there is no Open World PvP to speak of, and what little PvP they have is subpar to BF3 or TF2. Theres alot of people out there that feel the same way, if there was so called "stunning Open World PvP" I'm sure EA would have hyped it to get the PvP crowd.
