Did I miss a memo about light side / dark side points actually meaning something? When I was in beta, they meant absolutely nothing. Has this changed since then?

Your friend should join a good guild and stop pugging.
The light side thing is made up, beginning to think your "friend" isn't real.
I run flashpoint with guildies and this has never happened.
Also, most flashpoints dont have early as much talking as black talon. This won't be an issue after the FIRST flashpoint, which it sounds like that's all he's done.

Actually lightside and darkside points do mean something. It allows for certain character customizations and access to certain lightside and darkside only items. Unless of course this has changed since beta. For instance as you go higher on the darkside your eyes turn red and your skin becomes discolored and you are limited to what color crystal you can use in your lightsaber. If I am wrong, then someone please enlighten me.
Oh and as for how lightside points are gained or lost, I didn't play beta long enough to learn all its ends and outs...I got bored with the game a couple of hours into back when I beta'd it. So I do not know how it works. Anyone that has read my blog knows this because I state as much. I gave my beta away soon after I got it. I was only commetning on what he experienced. Sorry if it made some people angry.
my friend stopped playing SW:ToR until after launch because he was tired of getting booted from groups. He did beta, but he is going with a new class so he gets a fresh start. He is getting kicked from groups because he is not going through the group dialogue choices fast enough! He said because he is watching the cutscenes play out and it is taking longer than the others people get upset and are kicking him from the group. How sad is that?
He is also upset that he is getting screwed on lightside points due to never winning rolls. That is another thing that is making him upset and the reason he is going to wait until after launch when he has more friends that he can play with that will take their time and not rush through the game or strip him of a chance to become attuned to the lightside.
I guess it just depends on server community. I know the first time I went through the entry level Republic dungeon (Esses I think it is called) I had problems with my character getting stuck on autorun. Had to shut the game down and log back in. When I logged back in, my character wasn't running, instead my screen (except for the UI) was completely black. So once again, I log and log back in. Finally, everything worked. Through all of this the group I was in didn't boot me, and they didn't even move from where we left, they waited for me so I could catch up before the next boss.
EVERY single time ive grouped without my friends (which is a fair bit already) every single player has listened to the cutscenes 100% without skipping, I was actually quite suprised. Usually its when im with my friends that they want to skip it lol
I agree the grouping system is flawed, perhaps there should be a checkmark option on teaming "Cutsceneses (yes/no)" etc when LFG. However luckily I'm playing this game with my wife and my best friend and his wife, and we all want to watch the cutscenes, so we have no issues there. I could see where there's an issue with that though. As for LS/DS points, grouping is only 20% of that income. The rest is solo or otherwise obtained via quests.
So, nobody has thought that the uncool thing is having the whole rest of the team waiting until you and only you finish watching the cutscene that you and only you want to see?

Nope.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
1. There is a timer which impossibilitates someone from taking forever to pick a dialogue option.
2. Unless your friend was severely lagging or did not know what he was doing, then PUG's (atleast the people I grouped with) will not kick your friend from the party.
3. There are impatient and arrogant people everywhere in world. Life is tough, sometimes you have to deal with these kinds of people. You can't blame a game for this.
4. Light side/Dark side points take into account YOUR decision, not the outcome of the role. Example: Even if your Light Side choice is not picked, and the Dark Side choice wins the role, you will still get Light side points.
What you choose is still your light side or dark side points. There is nothing lost when another person wins the roll. The cut scene plays out to their choice but when you turn in the quest you still get the light side points you wanted.
I can feel your anger. This game is defenseless. Take your weapon. Strike this game down with all of your hatred, and your journey towards towards the Dark Side will be complete.

Get a group of like-minded friends and/or joing a good guild and stay clear of PUGs. They suck overall in almost every MMO.
Find a guild. Get a group of friends together and play. Why just go through an MMO dealing with random strangers kicking you out for not following their playstyle? PUGs suck anyway. An MMO is better with RL friends or guildmates along for the ride.
Sorry, OP, I don't believe you. We all know the fanbois said the best part of this game was the VO. Why would they already be skipping it? I mean that's almost like not reading the text of a quest. HOW DARE THEY!?!?!

First what does what may have been said have to do with reality? That part looks more like repressed anger toward fans of the game than an actual point.
Second with over a million playing I'd hardly think they're all fanbois.
Third, people come in all shapes and sizes, as well as tendencies.
For every minute you are angry , you lose 60 seconds of happiness."-Emerson
This is to be expected, some players not wanting to wait for the dialogue being they've done these quests before. They've already gone thru' it so why wait for someone else? Unfortunately, this is today's mentality in games.
Role Playing servers usually are more tolerant and more patient then regular servers being they're usually played by more adults. This is not to say all adults act sensible but usually you'll find it a lot better there.
what did you think was going to happen. just wait till the game is older and almost everyone has watched the cutscenses. new players are going to have a rough time even finding a group. the low end game is going to be a waste land and the people playing throught it arent going to want to wait around for the "new guy" to watch every cutscene, they are just going to want to get pasted it as fast as they can.

Anger? Over what? Don't delude yourself. I could care less.
I think its funny that everyone and their grandmother was saying VO was some sort of awesome innovation, its the overriding reason to play SWTOR, and all MMOs would add VO. Predictably, everyone is ignoring VOs, and its looking to have been a huge resource sink. At least, that is what the OP and the responders(who are playing and skipping the VO) are implying.

Except that the OP doesn't make any sense for a variety of reasons:
1. There are dialgoue timers in the game that prevent anyone from holding up the rest of the group. If you're lagging, AFK, or whatever, you simply don't make a choice in that round.
2. There are settings in the Preferences menu to allow folks to skip the cutscenes entirely if they want, so folks who've been playing for a while can avoid content they've already experienced and don't want to sit through again. Even if they just spacebar through everything, they're still going to hit the same dialogue timer that everyone else has.
3. Light/Dark side points don't depend on the group's decisions, so there's no way to screw anyone else over. You get the points YOU choose, even if you don't win the dialogue roll in a round, so folks ar still free to play their characters the way they want even if someone else does something different.
The thing that sux with mmo's is that you must group with people that are not your friends from time to time or maybe most of the time, it sux.
Hello? Excuse me but isn't that the entire reason we play MMO's? If I could not group with people I would not even bother. That's why most new MMO's these days suck is because people hate on each other and want to play solo the whole time. How lame is that? What is wrong with all these people hating on thier fellow man?
Find a guild. Get a group of friends together and play. Why just go through an MMO dealing with random strangers kicking you out for not following their playstyle? PUGs suck anyway. An MMO is better with RL friends or guildmates along for the ride.
I tend to agree here. The older I get, the more community is important to me. I don't mean server community, I mean finding a group of players that have similiar interests, tastes, personalities, etc.
To some people, skipping thru the dialogue is the best way to play this game. To others, engulfing onself in all the dialogue is the way to go. None is right or wrong. However, whatever the stlye may be, getting into a pug is like playing Russian Roulette.
One can empty the chambers of bullets by finding a group of players that either 1) align with your own playstyle, or 2) have the respect of others to let each person play or not play thru the dialogue and once everyone is ready, continue on and have fun.

There's a difference between playing with people you know and people you meet randomly. That's the point.
Random PUGs tend to suck in these games. Some of us would rather get together with a group of like-minded players that we know and have played with before (i.e., a guild) instead of just hitting the LFG flag and hoping that someone will come along who is social, or who isn't a total jackass. I've honestly had more fun in the last three days of early access now that my guildmates are playing than I did in beta where I had to rely on random PUGs to do any of the heroic content or flashpoints.
