Game During EGA felt DEAD compared to Beta

So My guild was assigned to Vulkar Highway for EGA. I got into EGA the second day they were allowing people in and do you know how many people were on the starter planet with me while I was there? Maybe 12 tops... hell even NOW the night before release if I go back to the newer planets I might only see 20 - 60 people on a planet.  Isn't that a little pathetic?  I mean Beta the fleet was PACKED full of people all the time... yet on my server despite it listed as a "FULL" server the fleet is a ghost town.

I've gotten to level 37 with my Guardian... the planets I go to quest on are lucky to have 6 people on them... which in my mind is terrible because it has been a week... I'd expect more people around my level.

I just wanted to voice a thought... it just doesn't feel right for a FULL server to be so quiet...

    It's the instancing

not for me. I am juyo and there's always a 20-30 q times after 4 PM EST. As for the population per area was showing 100-200 per phase. Last i checked i was level 28 and questing on tattooine. The area had 100+ people in there.  I can find a group for heroics or instances any time i want and fast.

Currently Playing: SSFIV AE, SFxTekken, SWTOR, WoW. Waiting for: GW2, Resident Evil 6.

I've seen that on mines as well but mostly people are on the capital worlds or slower lvlers

I noticed this too, and assumed they must have lowered the instance population caps?

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

As far as I'm aware the "Who" tab lists everyone on the planet / area despite what instance they might be in.  Seeing 20 people on the republic fleet is a little concerning for a new game that has barely released.  Maybe my group just got stuck on a shitty server... but damn does it feel lonely at times.  The only people I tend to see are those from my guld... we've prob got a lot of server firsts at this point.

Seemed fine to me. Queue during the day, standard pop at night.

I'm feeling the same running around the imperial captial in a full server I waited 45 min to get in and see about 20 people running around.. They really need to up the amount inside an instance

Lucky you.  I had brought up possibly moving servers with the guys but by now we are too high a lvl to consider it.  I just hope it gets better... I really hope not too many servers are added tonight.  Lord knows my server needs to be fleshed out badly.

Odd, cause I would see between 5 to maybe 15 in my field of view almost all the time on the surface of Korriban. In the Temple it was 2X to 3x that number.

As a matter of fact, for most of west coast prime time 5pm-9pm my planet population was always over 100. And it sayed at around 30-60 till 2am for the most part.

And that was on a "Heavy" server when I logged in.

tattooine is a huge planet not suprising they should have 100-200 but they should have over 1k in that planet.. on the smaller planets the instances seems ridiculously limiting

    The engine blows.

There is a reason the planets are so lifeless... everything is static... sounds are few and far in between... advanced graphic options are not available... and on and on and on...

Yes - there were a lot more people in the beta planets... the game also did not run as well.

Game seems to be running the exact same for me in retail.

You could have just gotten stuck on a crappy server.  I think they still have some light load servers, from what I've seen.  I do think they need to raise the shard cap for the first two worlds.  After that, things get nice and congested though.  I ran around in Taris with a lot of people around and there wasn't any sharding going on at all.  Then again, I'm on the Jung Ma server, which is PvP-RP, and those servers seem to be the most popular at the moment.

have to agree there with the quality of graphics you should have no issue running 500+ poeple easy in a single area but the engine seems terribly un optimized

cause a lot more people were in the areas in beta:P hence un optimized engine...

Its sad that we are to a point where people are complaining about good things just because they arent the WoW way.  I remember beta as well, having to camp a mob spawn point just to do a basic quest on a starter planet.  Why does anyone yearn for crowded areas with people fighting over resources and quest mobs?  If you looked at the server loads on any night this past week, you can see that population is clearly not an issue.  Just because you dont see a bunch of people in your instance of the planet does not mean there are not people around.

I do not see why having a bunch of people contesting your progression or just clogging up your screen is a good thing and something that qualifies as a benchmark of success.  If there is a problem with people finding groups, that is a legitimate complaint.  The game feeling dead is completely abstract and is strickly based on what you have grown accustomed to in the past few years.  Different is not always bad.

I don't speak for anyone, but I don't play mmo's for resources and kill x monsters, but ebcause I like playing in a big world with a lot of other people.

Sounds liek the OP just got a bad server tho.

That's my point.  It runs better because they allow fewer people in each instance.

the only place this really bothers me is Illum and honestly don't think this games engine can handle 100 vs 100 battles.. lucky for 50 vs 50

I'm curious if the servers are being capped for early game access. My server would show as full and I'd have a 30 minute queue but no planet would break low 100's and most other places were well below that. During the beta weekends I recall seeing planets with 300+ people. Although there is a possibility my server is super light on Republic side and we are just bogged down by all the imperial players.

I'm on Vulkurs Highway and find that their are good amounts of people in instances that I'm in... Usually in the 150 range and up tops 200..

The lowest I've seen is 42 BUT that was at like 4AM EST late into the play session..

I've been Q'd twice for the server since I got in on the 16th.. first time 10mins my sencond round 20

    Nothing but the facts..

PM before you report at least or you could just block.

Could be the case.  I remember looking at the guild list of players that would be on our server just days before EGA and was SHOCKED at the amount of imperial guilds VS Republic guilds... makes you wonder how they deicded to split up the guilds onto the servers.

As to why it bothers me my answer is the same as the other guys... I play an MMO to play with MANY people... not to play a game that feels as though it's an FPS combat game where only 24 people can fit on the entire server.

#1.  By now the Republic Fleet should be loaded with people.

It's not... deadzone.  No life most of the time

#2.  Even the lower level planets have barely any life on them...

I check whenever I go back to them to help guildies... which is often

#3.  My server is listed as FULL and thus #1 / #2 should not be the case

Obviously other people do matter... if this game were a single-player RPG... it would SUCK.  Compare this game to 2007's Mass Effect... LOLOLOLOL.

The reason we accept the many downgrades is BECAUSE we can play this with others... nobody wants to stand in line to kill mobs.. but is that our fault?  Shouldn't Bioware be able to design an MMO that allows a massively multiplayer experience AND is fun?  MMOs don't have to consist of waiting for respawns of X blinking things or Y mobs... that people with floating triangles above their heads told you to handle.
